  1. I'm not keen on putting a minimum number of games that Buck needs to play in CF to be a success. What we need is Buck to be in the right frame of mind to be a force at the plate. It's certainly very encouraging that his ST workload is mirroring Correa's. His body seems to be coping with returning to CF. All being well, I think we can be hopeful of him hitting over 30 HR's and driving in 80+.
  2. In a perfect world yes but that doesn't exist. If we look at some other star players, Ohtani won't be pitching at all this year and will be limited to DH. Angels will almost certainly manage Trout's workload to some extent after his injury problems. Both are earning a LOT more than Buxton (backloaded contract notwithstanding). If Buxton does get any of the incentive bonuses in his contract then quite frankly we'll all be delighted and the 15mill AAV will an absolute bargain.
  3. Buxton may be healthy but that isn't going to stop us holding our breath the next time he dives for a ball, or crashes into the wall, or slides heavily into 2nd base legging out a double which he inevitably will at some point sooner rather than later in the regular season. I was very pleased he didn't dive after Turner's double on Tuesday! It would be of huge benefit to the Twins if the DH spot could be freed up so it can be rotated to give players breaks from the field and also to be flexible with the line up depending on if we're facing a LHP or a RHP.
  4. Jeez, reading some of the comments back I'm now unsure if we traded Noah Miller or Brooks Lee in this deal!
  5. Really? We're paying only 4mill of Margot's contract, plus we got a prospect who's actually higher rated than Miller in the deal! If that's your idea of losing a trade then I'd love to know your idea of a winning trade!
  6. But all the noise coming out of Twins camp is that Buxton is healthy. So Margot is definitely plan B for CF. Obviously Buxton's workload will be managed and the likes of Margot and Castro will see playing time in CF but Margot has not been signed to play CF every day.
  7. Nah, can't agree with that. Duvall and Taylor are very strikeout prone. Taylor may be better defensively but it looks like Buxton will be back in CF, all being well, and this move actually encourages me that it will happen. I suspect we could easily have re-signed Taylor if we wanted to and we have that gold glove CF. But why do that if Buxton's going to be there? Margot's a better hitter than Taylor or Duvall for me and he's not a bad fielder at all. More than competent back up for Buxton and will be play corner outfield against lefties. I'm an optimist and I see this as a completely different situation to last year. MAT was signed to play CF every day. Margot hasn't been acquired for that reason.
  8. I think this will end up being a shrewd move. He'll hit better against lefties than Kepler or Wallner and he's a better player than any of the FA options.
  9. Good trade. Margot is a very solid OF option. While Miller is a promising prospect, SS is not a position we are lacking in for depth. Besides, SS is taken care of for the foreseeable future by Correa.
  10. His injury would have affected his stance at the plate. His eye would have remained as good as it was so hence why the strikeout rate stayed pretty much the same but ground outs and GIDP skyrocketed. I am confident his offensive production will improve significantly this season, back to around his career averages, possibly higher.
  11. TBH for me it's not improve the roster now or bust. Our roster is good enough to win the AL Central so I'm fairly relaxed about what the FO do between now and the start of the season. It's the time leading up to the trade deadline that's important for me. There's going to plenty of impact players on expiring contracts who may well be available. Last season's trade deadline was a damp squib for Twins fans but we were treated to the signing of Correa and trade and subsequent extension of Pablo Lopez in the off season. This time the FO may well need to be aggressive near the trade deadline to make our roster a play off worthy one.
  12. It is very difficult to compare him to other players until he's played a full season IMO. I do think he's good enough to be mentioned as one of the very best 3B in the league, along with the likes of Ramirez and Devers. We'll know when other teams fear him when they IBB walk him with the bases loaded. 🤣
  13. I think people are overstating his injuries TBH. Yes, he tore the same ACL twice but he had no issues coming back from that last year. Then he got a hamstring strain late in the season - an injury that is extremely common in high level athletes. He wasn't fully fit for the play offs and still smacked 4 HR's over the 6 games. I'm not worried about staying healthy. He may require the odd IL stint like most players but there's no reason why he can't play 130+ games a season.
  14. Witt is a special talent. They've made him face of the franchise for a very good reason. Royce Lewis could be that guy for the Twins. But injuries have delayed his progress so extension talks would have been premature before now. But now the TV rights issue has been sorted, it surely is worth exploring an extension with him. I certainly don't find it embarrassing that the Royals have outspent us this offseason. It's not as if they went out and signed one of the top free agents - they just agreed to a huge extension with a top, top talent which is happening more often these days.
  15. I remember being somewhat underwhelmed by the Solano signing last year. I'm going to wait and see how this plays out this time.
  16. TBF I totally get your point. And what I think needs to be mentioned is that the money saved from this trade will be reinvested onto the payroll. And that will likely be a RH bat. Also, last season taught me to believe in our rookies! Julien was a really late round pick and he's flourished at MLB level. I have absolute faith that Lee can have a really solid rookie year. It may require some short term pain in losing a good, veteran hitter's production in Polanco but I think the impact will be fairly minimal.
  17. We've still got plenty of people who can hit in the 2 hole - Buxton and Correa have both hit there in the past. Farmer could hit there against lefties. Kepler could do it against righties. I really don't think there's a big issue replacing Polanco's production there. But we'll see.
  18. Brooks Lee is coming. And while you can't rely on a rookie hitting the ground running, he's got all the tools to be an excellent MLB 2B. And if he struggles to start with, we have both Farmer and Julien who can cover 2B. But this trade clears the path for Lee to reach MLB and I'm really looking forward to watching him.
  19. Good trade all round. DeSclafani is ok, nothing more and likely a one year rental. But does provide rotation depth. Like Topa a lot. Groundball pitcher which makes absolute sense with Correa at SS. Plus 2 prospects, one a top 100 and the other intriguing. Well done Falvey.
  20. I always felt Polanco was the most likely to be traded with our infield depth, plus he has 2 years of team control remaining which increased his trade value. Sorry to see him go as I am a big fan of his but makes absolute sense for the Twins. I like the return we got as well. Sure, DeSclafani isn't anything special, but he's a solid back end of the rotation option. Topa is a good relief option out of the bullpen and we get two prospects, one a top 100 prospect. Can't complain.
  21. I think there are certainly signs to be optimistic. He's on the right track right now that's for sure. His surgery seems to have gone well and he seems to be pain free and is running multiple times a week, plus doing outfield work. The question now is how his body copes when workload increases during ST and then the regular season. It would be a MASSIVE boost for everyone if Buxton is jogging out to CF for the bottom on the 1st in KC on opening day, preferably after crushing one into the fountain in the top of the 1st.
  22. Boras is the most influential figure every off season. It's always worth having a good relationship with him as a FO - you just never know what he'll do to get his clients the best outcome. It really wouldn't completely surprise if me if Snell ended up somewhere completely unexpected on a shorter term, high AAV contract with opt outs similar to Correa's first contract with the Twins. I'm sure the Twins have had conversations with Boras this offseason even if nothing comes of it. But you never cut off communication with Scott Boras.
  23. Fully deserved. I wasn't convinced he'd get in first time but delighted he has. Good to see the voters were prepared to overlook the rather injury hit and mediocre end to his career and recognize his incredible achievements in his prime. One of the best catchers to ever play the game and glad I watched him live a couple of times when I've been to Target Field. Also love the fact he's going to the be 7th member of the HOF going in as a Twin.
  24. I think the Twins farm system will quickly rise up the rankings as top prospects from other clubs graduate. Lee is the only one from the top 15 I would say who is likely to be on the Twins roster long enough to not qualify for prospect status next year. And Jenkins will likely be a top 3 overall prospect very soon.
