  1. While there is something to that, when you start 0-4 I don't think that matters too much. The pressure to get the first win was mounting very quickly and we needed 2 well played ball games to get back to 2-4 and we got them.
  2. I was optimistic about Bader when we signed him. He may not hit for a good BA but he has pop in his bat - can hit HR's I believe I said at the time. Well he's hit 3 clutch HR's so far - not bad! After 1 week he's tied for 3rd in MLB in HR's (same as a certain Japanese two way player having played 2 fewer games). Also tied for 3rd in RBI's. Now he's clearly not going to stay that high in the stats but so far, so very good from him. Good to see Buck absolutely crush that hanging breaking ball in his first AB. That ball went miles. You can definitely see everyone is more relaxed now we have some wins on the board. Lopez excellent and efficient as well, enabling him to go 7 innings. Good to get some momentum ahead of the home opener against Houston.
  3. Alcala has a great inning, strikes out the side on 13 pitches and his reward is to have an ERA of 27. Ouch! 🤣
  4. Big win. Big 6th inning. Doing all the damage with 2 outs as well with contributions from most of the line up. Correa didn't get a hit again but saved the day with that catch. And despite a 1-4 start only 1 GB as everyone else in the AL Central is 2-3! Turns out there is a team who has had a worse start - the Atlanta Braves. 0-6, 9 runs scored in those games. And they have the Phillies and Mets in their division.
  5. I doubt they asked to leave the game. I mean Buxton made a great attempt to rob MAT of his HR just before he was removed so he was still giving 100%. He put his body on the line when he crashed into the wall which, given his injury history, deserves respect. It's on Baldelli, no one else IMO.
  6. Disgusted. Absolutely disgusted. Rocco just gave up after 3 innings when he pulled Buxton and Correa from the game. Disgusting attitude from the manager. Even if we don't win the game try and get something out of it. Buxton and Correa need hits for crying out loud. Rocco needs to go right now. The team is still in the slump from last season and it's on Baldelli, simple as that. We just got our butts kicked by the worst team in baseball and it was embarrassing to watch.
  7. Cardinals were excellent at all parts of the game over the 3 games it has to be said and deserved the sweep. That being said, Twins didn't help themselves. Ober pitching while still recovering from a virus was always going to end badly. Dobnak should have had the spot start there. Twins didn't strike out that much but too many ground balls which resulted in groundouts and momentum killing DP's. Need more line drives.
  8. TBF to Correa, the ball is coming off his bat at a good velo. The first 2 games, the average coming off his bat was 99mph. Very unfortunate not to get any hits in the first 2 games.
  9. Of all the stupid things Rocco has done in his time as Twins manager, starting Ober who was still recovering from a virus for his first start of the season has to be right up there. If it was later in the season with 50 or 60 innings pitched then maybe I could understand the decision. But he's only thrown a handful of innings from ST so his body isn't going to be at 100% anyway even without the virus. We're 0-2 (now 0-3), we needed our starter to give us 5 or 6 good innings to give us the best chance of winning. Fuming with Rocco TBH. He also benched Bader for Saturday's game after he hit a HR on his Twins debut. Just don't get it.
  10. I've got a feeling Wallner will have a big year. He'll still K a lot and his BA may well be lower than .250 but can see him smashing 40 HR's and driving in over 100. I like the fact that the Twins have him batting lead off as well. Phillies do it with Schwarber and it seems to work for them. Encouraged by France's strong ST as well. Could turn out to be a huge bargain. Twins haven't announced who's going to start in game's 2 and 3 yet - presumably it will be Ryan and Ober, just don't know which way round. Pitching should be a real strength this year.
  11. As a UK based baseball fan, I've been to 3 London games since they started and they're great. No reason to believe they won't carry on - I believe the next series is scheduled for 2026. There is a huge NFL fanbase in the UK now with all the games over here and baseball is growing here as well now. Hopefully the Twins will play over here sometime - seen the Vikings play in London twice and loved it.
  12. Santana will be missed at 1B that's for sure - I don't think anyone expected gold glove caliber defense from him last year. As long as France can be solid at 1B I think we'll be fine. And Ryan, Paddack and SWR are more fly ball pitchers than ground ball so as long as our infield defense is around average we'll be fine.
  13. Let's be honest, if Duran's on it he's going to be the one to close out games. Jax is awesome, but that fastball/splinker/curveball combo is downright filthy when they are working. While Baldelli won't officially name a closer it will be Duran unless something goes badly wrong with him. He's already reached 99 with his FB and Spring Training's only been going 1 day! He's worked really hard in the offseason according to an article by Dan Hayes, he's slimmer and fitter than last year. Obviously the injury didn't help either but he's in a much better shape now than 12 months ago.
  14. I think Lewis has a great chance of becoming an All Star. Jeffers could as well - good hitting catchers are quite thin on the ground. If Wallner has more consistent at bats and doesn't have a huge slump early in the season again he could have a breakout year - the power is clearly there to put up big numbers.
  15. Um no he didn't. He's getting 4.75mill then an extra 1.5mill when the mutual option is declined at the end of the season. That's 6.25mill guaranteed.
  16. Quite like this move. It's worth pointing out he's spent the majority of the last 4 seasons playing home games in a VERY pitcher friendly ballpark, which make his 2022 stats very impressive. His stats since then are unimpressive but will be a nice stop gap until the new owners come in and sign Guerrero Jr next offseason. 😁
  17. Twins have figured out how to manage Buck, finally. He mentally needs to be playing CF (understandably) but needs rest days and 2 or 3 10 day stints on the IL. If we can get 100 games out of him again that's a result. The thing | actually fear most with Buck, Lewis and Correa is when they get HBP. They will have individual plans to manage their bodies but what you can't plan for is an arm or wrist fracture from an errant pitch.
  18. The two players I would be most interested in signing long term, Lewis and Jenkins, will be the toughest as they are both Boras clients. Obviously we're some way off serious Jenkins discussions but I would at least be aiming to engage him and Boras pretty much as soon he reaches the big leagues. For any potential new owners, Lewis is the obvious player to target straight away. There may be risk attached to a long term deal, but at the same time this year could be the best year to do it because if he stays healthy he could easily take off and have a monster year. Then it becomes even harder.
  19. Yes they should be looking to fix the offense. And they've started by hiring new coaches. The Twins have a lot of young, talented hitters. Arguably the most talented of those, Lewis, slumped really badly at the back end of last season. Signing Bader does not hurt the effort at all. Bader hasn't been signed to hit .300 or to drive in 100 runs - if he can replicate his numbers from last year (12 HR's, 51 RBI) Twins will more than take that to go along with what else he offers. Twins can fix the offense by working with Lewis, Wallner, Lee, Julien, Jeffers and further down the line Rodriguez and Keaschall. There's so much potential there.
  20. The way I see it Bader can impact a game in several ways, He can enter the game as a pinch runner, or to provide elite defense when closing out a game. Twins can rest Buxton and not lose much, if anything, on defense. He's still capable of hitting one out of the park. It feels like another MAT signing rather than another Margot to me.
  21. Disagree. Bader hit 12 HR's and drove in 51 last year despite uninspiring stats. IMO he's a better hitter than Martin, especially against lefties.
  22. Wow - 2 days in a row with a free agent signing! Not a move that has me jumping for joy but a sensible signing. RH bat, speedy and good cover for Buxton. Plus can platoon with Wallner/Larnach when a lefty is on the mound for the opposition.
  23. Can't complain with this. Needed a veteran lefty in the bullpen and now we've got one.
