  1. Outstanding from Paddack. Getting out of that first inning jam clearly gave him confidence and then pitched 5 top innings after that. He's got the stuff to be a good middle of the rotation starter so if he can stay healthy he should be able to give us a chance to win on most days that he starts.
  2. Buxton clearly hasn't been hampered by his knee until yesterday. He laid out and made a diving catch the other week and has been running the bases well. If he requires a stint on the IL so be it, just get him back in CF rather than playing DH. Still, we've got options. Both Castro and Miranda are hitting well although Castro is nowhere near Buxton in terms of defense in CF. Miranda has 3B covered while Lewis is out (what a play he made yesterday BTW). Boston will be a good challenge for the offense - their starters have been excellent. Should be a good series.
  3. I'd like to point out that Chicago swept Tampa Bay at the weekend and the Phillies were 2 outs away from going 2-0 down in their series against the Angels. So as as far as I'm concerned, our 9 game winning streak is very impressive. Another win fitting of the rally sausage. Nice to get Duran in straight away for his first save of the year.
  4. While his ERA is good, delve deeper into the stats and it suggests his ERA is a lot lower than it should be. He was giving up a .050 BA with balls in play and a 90% strand rate - neither are sustainable. His SIERA is 4.38. TBH even if we kept him now, he would have been DFA'd when Topa is activated.
  5. The good thing about this 8 game winning streak is that there have been all kinds of different wins. The blow out wins are good for the heart rate but it's those narrow one run wins that really show what you're made of. Thielbar hasn't got the stuff to be a closer really, especially in a one run game but mixed his pitches enough to get the job done. Thankfully Duran is now back so we have our closer back. Correa is going to make such a difference defensively. When he was out Castro did a decent job at SS but there were some plays he didn't make that I think Correa would have done. Nothing on Castro, it just makes me appreciate just how good a SS Correa is and how lucky we are to have him.
  6. Martin needs to play rather than be a bench player so sending him back to AAA is the right call. Made a good impression in his stint with the Twins though. But Correa is a very welcome returnee!
  7. Angels are a mess. Trout deserves better. They should consider trading him and going into a full rebuild. Anyway, that week could not have gone any better - all hail the sausage! 🤣 Shame that Lopez couldn't convert his 4 perfect innings into a quality start but I'm not concerned. The AL Central has long been mocked as being very weak, but it's threatening to become really competitive. It has two of the best SS's in the game - Correa and Witt, 2 of the best 3B - Lewis and Ramirez and four teams over .500. Oh, and two flamethrower closers in Duran and Clase. Plenty of worse divisions this year. The NL West is a one horse race, Oakland are currently 3rd in the AL West - enough said there. The NL East has Atlanta, Phillies and not a lot else. While KC and Detroit may not reach the play offs this year, they are both competitive and have to be seen as a threat right now.
  8. White Sox may be terrible, but 4 game sweeps are still rare. SWR had to battle, but I like what I see from him. Definitely deserves the chance to keep his spot in the rotation. Julien on pace to hit 46 homers! His power is underestimated. I tipped Jeffers for a Silver Slugger award before the season started and I think he's got a good shot at it. What a find Stewart was. I did wonder if last year would be a one off but he's been just as dominant to start this year. Okert looks a mess and his roster spot must be under threat with Duran back soon. Good to see Thielbar pitch a clean inning.
  9. I'm not sure Buxton is an issue TBH. Sure, he's striking out a ton, but his BA is heading in the right direction and when he gets hits around half are going for extra bases (19 hits this season - 9 for extra bases). His last 7 games, while striking out 9 times, he's hitting .333/.357/.630. I'll take the K's if he can keep up those numbers. Nice birthday game for Willi, Kepler is on a tear since returning from the IL. And Correa's return looks imminent. Good stuff.
  10. Ah. Wasn't aware he threw that many in one inning. Just one of those nights where he wasn't sharp then.
  11. Bit of an ugly win, but it's always fun to walk off the White Sox! And that would have been a CRUSHING loss for them. Larnach looks like he's got a point to prove - Wallner may struggle to get back on the team for a while. Buck's found his swing as well. That HR left in a hurry! Slightly concerning about Pablo's FB velocity dropping, Hopefully he just wasn't feeling it.
  12. In the end it turned out to be a good call as he read Jeffers' hit perfectly and got to third, allowing Jeffers to get to second (removing the ground ball double play from the equation). I don't think anyone would have scored from first on that hit. A bad read would have meant runners on first and second.
  13. While things look really ugly right now, I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Firstly, we have 4 games against the White Sox coming right up. 3 wins required here, 4 would be ideal. Secondly, Lewis has already resumed baseball activities so is ahead of schedule, even if he is still out for a while. And Correa should be back soon. Then we have Duran about to start a rehab assignment. The injury list will start shrinking very soon. Thirdly, the only SP I have real concerns about is Varland. And I think it's time to give SWR a go in his spot. Ober looks to have shrugged his horrendous opening start. We just need the hitters not named Kirilloff or Jeffers to start producing. Martin's done a decent job TBF but there a number of veteran hitters who need to step up and deliver. Santana has been woeful. And I'm patiently waiting for Buxton to hit one out. Good opportunity for hitters to find some form against the White Sox.
  14. An excellent day for the Twins. Sweeping a DH can really provide a boost to a team and we needed a boost. On top of that it sounds like Correa's injury isn't as bad as it could have been so hopefully he won't need a lot more than the minimum stay on the IL. Outstanding from SWR - he needed to make sure he went at least 6 after the 12 inning game in game 1. Knowing that adds a little more pressure and he was great. Getting very concerned about Wallner. He looks all at sea at the plate right now. He needs a stint at AAA to sort himself out but problem is who can we call up? Larnach is injured, Lee is injured, Miranda and Martin are already up.
  15. I hope Rocco includes Julien in the line up for the first game in Detroit. Facing a tough LHP in Skubal but he needs to face more lefties.
  16. Well, I think Correa's arm is worth at least 10mill AAV. Not many have the arm strength to be able to nail Ohtani, a good runner, at the plate like that. While we only scored 3 runs, I thought our AB's were a lot better in general. Good news that Julien has broken out of his slump, 3 great AB's from him. I like the look of Paddack. He battled against a top line up and did pretty well, got out a jam with only 1 run allowed in the 1st and struck out the side in the 2nd. Didn't quite manage 5 innings but kept us in the game. Bullpen good - Rocco managed it well TBF. Although I could barely watch the Okert - Betts match up in the top of the 9th. I was biting my nails there - I was half expecting Betts to hit one out. Very good and badly needed win. The bats will come good. We've had a fair few off days and a rain out so hard to get that rhythm going. Correa looks set for a big season. If we can get 3 of 4 in Detroit we're back to .500.
  17. TBF it's not as if the hitters were producing at that stage and it took a perfect play to get Margot (and barely at that).
  18. Nice win. And first road trip is a winning one. AK looks so good at the plate and another very solid outing from the pen. Very happy to see Buxton contributing as a DH as well. He's clearly in a good place right now. I have to admit I spent most of the game banging my head against the wall until the 7th inning. Great time for a 5 run inning and a huge swing by Jeffers.
  19. The only vaguely positive thing I can say about this is that at least Rocco had the sense to pull Buxton and Correa out of the game early. But he can be blamed for letting the game get away so early in the first place. Should have pulled Ober after the 2 HR's in the second inning - it was clear he didn't have command of his pitches. 5-0 down after 2 innings is still a winnable game. 9-0 isn't.
  20. Ober has a low 90's fastball so when he has no command he's awful. Rocco had to pull him a lot earlier. Instead he let the 2nd inning balloon completely out of control. Awful management.
  21. It will depend on the runner and the quality of the SS. Witt is an elite runner and Correa is an elite SS so Vazquez nailed his throw. It required a brilliant tag but Correa (rightly so) backs himself to make those plays. Maybe Vazquez thew more to the right of the bag than he intended but the throw had to go to the right to get Witt.
  22. A quiet season debut for Buck on Thursday, two huge (and completely different) doubles today. First one was almost the most encouraging in how he turned a single into a double with his speed. Early days but he looks good. Shout out to Vazquez too who came through in a big way after the rally killing double play with the bases loaded in the 7th. Ryan very good. His splitter was particularly effective. Correa unfortunate to go hitless after a great play by Melendez in LF. But another great defensive play to be able to tag Witt out going for 2nd after the throw put him somewhat in the firing line!
  23. Real shame about Lewis. To hit a HR on an 0-2 pitch with your first AB of the season is ridiculous. It was a mistake from Ragans but even so, what a swing. I just hope he's not out for long. Correa was locked in at the plate. Shame his best AB of the game got Lewis injured! But Correa showed his quality in that AB. Loved his hustle in the 9th beating out that infield single as well! Lopez doing Lopez things. Didn't let the lead off HR get to him at all. Poor pitch, but he forgot about it and pitched a gem. Proper ace.
  24. 1. 89 wins. 2. 1st. 3. Twins 4. Yes - Ryan Jeffers 5. Yes - Santana and Correa 6. Brooks Lee 7. Correa 8. Pablo Lopez 9. Duran the obvious choice but I'm going to go with Topa. 10. Lewis
