  1. Twins have handled Buck much better this year. Obviously the surgery he had in the off season was successful in getting him back in CF. But importantly they put him on the IL earlier in the year when he tweaked his knee and let him rest it properly. He may need another stint at some point but he needs to be in CF, not DHing. Even when he's not getting hits, he's in a much better place than last year.
  2. TBH it's a minor miracle that with the amount of times Twins hitters have been hit by a pitch that none have done any serious damage. None of them have been deliberate but try telling that to the hitter who gets plunked!
  3. Not sure what the biggest positive out of this game was: 1. Correa escaped serious injury 2. Buxton is hitting the cover off the ball right now 3. Correa escaped serious injury 4. Buck beating out an infield single that no one else could have done 5. Correa escaped serious injury 6. Lewis snapped his hitless streak 7. Correa escaped serious injury 8. Festa looks a very good prospect 9. Correa escaped serious injury
  4. I still think Lopez will be fine. His form is a concern though that's for sure. Still, it's good to see the offence getting us out of a hole, and not for the first time lately. Another multi hit game for Correa. When was the last time he actually struck out? Willi Castro is proving that last year wasn't a one off either. What a pick up he was. Finally, RIP Willie Mays. One of the GOAT. Very sad that he passed just days before the game at Rickwood Field.
  5. That catch from Martin was extraordinary. Royce Lewis IS extraordinary. It defies all logic that he spends 2 months on the IL, struggles for hits in his rehab assignment, then as soon as he's reinstated just continues to crush HR's at a staggering rate. I know he's still a long way from FA and he's a Boras client, but the FO need to seriously consider locking him up with a monster extension now. It would be a bit of a risk with his injury record, but that's precisely why it would be achievable to do it now. It would be very hard for Lewis to turn down 8+ years, $250mill+. The current issue is obviously the TV revenue situation. But the Twins could backload some of the pay for the next season or two while the situation gets resolved. But the longer Lewis continues to hit like this, the harder it will get to extend him. He's a superstar who is not fazed by the big moments (look what he did in the play offs back last season).
  6. I'm not sure you can call it a big opportunity when the pitcher on the mound is Mason Miller TBH. He's averaging getting on 2 strikeouts per inning pitched.
  7. It's a lot of fun watching a fully healthy Carlos Correa play baseball. Particularly in June. I like that Rocco has split up Correa, Lewis and Buxton in the line up - it seems to be working. Buxton in particular has been getting opportunities to drive runs in and he's been delivering lately.
  8. Miranda would have been the obvious option to be demoted when Lewis was initially placed on the IL. However there's absolutely no way Rocco can leave him out of line up right now, let alone demote him. Assuming it is Julien who is demoted, he needs to look at how hard Miranda has worked to get back on track. It also goes to show how much infield depth we have and that's not even including Brooks Lee, who is also on the way back from injury.
  9. Miranda continuing his bounce back season with an excellent day - 2 game winning swings. That was properly ground out win, Thought Rocco got his pitching match ups spot on, even if he did pull SWR early. Very good series win and a good way to make the trip to New York where I fully expect Lewis to hit a grand slam on his return. 😁
  10. I'm not particularly concerned about Duran. His season started late, had virtually no ST and he is reaching 102-103 at times if not as often as we would like.
  11. Great win. I just had that feeling when Correa came up to the plate with the bases loaded he was going to deliver. Big series win and Lewis will be activated any day now. On to Houston!
  12. Well, I think they are because it's not the first time Vazquez has thrown the ball way to the first base side of second and it's not the first time he's thrown a runner out like this. It certainly wasn't 10 feet off line. The fact a good baserunner was easily tagged out makes it a good throw. Correa is an elite SS - he can make these sorts of tags so makes absolute sense to throw it in the area Vazquez threw it.
  13. Could have been worse as well. Given we were 7-13 at one stage, I think to recover to 30-24 is outstanding - that's a record of 23-11 in that time. Especially as we've been without Lewis all season and Correa and Buxton have both been on the IL.
  14. Can we please now keep Alcala with the Twins? He's got great stuff and should be a fixture in the Twins bullpen. That tag play and caught stealing in the 9th was a thing of beauty. Such a big moment as well. If we can take this series it will be a big win for us. KC had some serious momentum coming in and to take the first two games is big.
  15. Agreed. I like Sands out of the pen, got good stuff. Jackson and Okert however make me wince when I see them coming in. Okert is ok against lefties but awful against righties. Jackson is just bad - neither have particularly good stuff so need to rely on command and varying their pitches. I would much rather we keep Alcala as a full time member of the pen than keep Jackson.
  16. Outstanding from Ober. In fact he's probably been our most consistent starter ever since his KC horror show. Great to see Santana get hot at the plate, punished Toronto heavily for giving us an extra out there. And Kep ups his hitting streak to 14 games and put the game to bed at the same time. Huge week coming up with the Yankees coming to town and then off to Cleveland. Going .500 over the 6 games will do. Anything better will be superb.
  17. True, but you could then say he got lucky on the very next play when Miranda deflected a line drive straight into Castro's glove! But Lopez was definitely sharp for me. Probably his best start of the year.
  18. I'm with you on Thielbar. And I'm not saying we should overpay - just if any opportunity arises. Texas picked up Grossman for example so I do think teams are open for business for players on 1 year deals or in the last year before FA.
  19. Well that couldn't have gone any better. Correa rested, jump on Gilbert early, Lopez cruises through 6+ innings, blow out game, big bullpen arms rested. Lots of great at bats today and good to see everyone contributing.
  20. So if Jax and Duran aren't available you'd be happy handing the 8th and 9th in a close game over to the likes of Funderburk and Jackson? Funderburk is not good against RH hitters and Jackson doesn't convince me at all. With Stewart out, we're lacking on set up guys. We don't need 3 lefties in the pen either. Funderburk should be in AAA. There's definitely space for another RHP. Of course that could be Topa if he can get healthy.
  21. This. A SP isn't going to have every start where he gives up only a handful of hits. There will be times where he gives up plenty of base runners. But if you can strand most of them it's fine! The only issue is the pitch count will rise rapidly like it did with Paddack. At the end of the day we scored 6 runs off 7 hits, they scored 3 off 10. That's what counts. My main concern is bullpen depth. If I were Falvey, I would seriously consider making a trade now. Topa could be out for a while yet and while Stewart may be back soon, his injury record isn't good. There are several teams who clearly won't be contending this year so why not pull the trigger on a trade now?
  22. Seattle's pitching is clearly their strong point right now so for SWR to duel Castillo like he did was awesome. The Berrios trade is looking better now! When you're facing a pitcher like Castillo, it's likely going to be a low scoring game so you have to hope our SP can keep us in the game. SWR did that and more. Good bounce back win.
  23. Kepler may have hit the go ahead HR but his biggest moment of the day was perfectly reading Smith's line drive high off the RF wall and easily throwing him out at second, turning what was inches from a HR into an out. Made a tough read look easy. Nice start from Pablo, Boston made him work but still managed 6 innings of 1 run ball. 12 wins in a row hasn't been achieved by any Twins team since 1991. It's got to the stage where it really doesn't matter who our opponents were or are during this streak. That's over 30 years ago and that team won the World Series.
