  1. We now know the Twins will not sweep the Soxs and if the Twins hitters keep swinging at bad pitches they will continue to lose games they could have won. The 10th inning last night was highlighted by the Twin's batters swinging at pitches that were not even close to strike zone< but Rocco said we just need to get more hits. Maybe someone should tell Rocco that a walk is as good as a hit. Our .200 average batters are swinging at pitches way out of strike zone, when they could take a walk. I can only assume Rocco talks to his batters about this, but with Rocco no one knows what he does.
  2. I am certainly not a fan of our manager, but maybe after watching how a manager bunted over the runner in the 10th inning Rocco could learn something. He is a slow learner so maybe he will not move the runner over in the next game in the 10th inning. I think just about every other manager will have the first batter move the runner over. Rocco said we just did not get enough hits to win. The winner of the game is not which team gets the most hits, but which team scores the most runs. Someone has to tell batters to stop swinging at pitches out of strike zone. In the 10th inning their pitcher could not throw strikes, but Twins players kept swinging away. Hope some day the Twins get a real manager and not a trainee manager who is a slow learner.
  3. Based on his last 2 games he certainly is not an ace of the staff. Just do not understand why the Twins were so quick to give him a new contract. There is just no reason for not waiting until several more starts. It seems like the Twins just do not have much success in giving out big contracts. Buxton got big contract and he is having a average year at bat or maybe below average. Correa got big contract and he has just not been hitting. They sign Lopez to big contract and his next 2 games he pitched poorly.
  4. What a difference a month makes since we started the season with 5 good starters and now we have 2 really good starters and 1 ok starter plus 2 starters in the injury list. It does look like we have 2 replacement starters, but they are rookies so we will have to wait to see how good they will be. When we look at how poorly we have been hitting we are lucky to have a winning record, but we have been saved due to very good pitching from 2 of our starters since they have not lost a game. Not many teams have 2 winning pitchers with all wins. The big Lopez trade that was supposed to be a win win for both teams is not looking as good since Lopez has not looked good his last 2 starts and we really miss the hitter we traded away. We need Lopez to start pitching better so we do not have to count on 2 rookies for winning their starts. Correa has to start hitting for the Twins to keep winning.
  5. When we look at how bad Correa has been at bat we should certainly count April as a good month. I think Rocco has to move him down in the batting order to take off some pressure. In several games Correa has left 4 or more runners on base. It only makes sense he will start hitting better based on his past record or the Twins are in trouble with his $200 million contract. I am concerned with so many injuries after one month of play. I do not follow other teams so do not know if we have more than other teams, but it sure seems like we have a lot of injuries This is baseball not football..
  6. I guess everyone except Rocco knows Correa is just not getting many hits since he keeps batting him at the top of the lineup. Maybe if Correa was batting lower in the lineup there would be less pressure on him and he could start getting some hits. Watching Correa's at bats it seems he just doesn't hit under pressure. I think if Rocco would look at his hits with runners on base and hits when no one on base it would show a higher average when there are no runners on base. Since Rocco is supposed to be a numbers manager maybe this would help him make a better choice of where to bat Correa until his hitting improves.
  7. The biggest problem is Correa is just not hitting, but our trainee manager keeps hitting him at the top of the lineup. It just seems Correa cannot hit under pressure. He is barely hitting .200, but if you look at his batting average with runners on base it would even be lower. I do not know if he is trying too hard to get a hit when under pressure, but so far the $200 million man has been a complete failure. I really hope he can start getting big hits or the Twins will have a hard time winning.
  8. Sometimes a player that is just playing poorly has to be replaced. It appears the Twins have other players that will help them more than Gordon. He has no future with the Twins so maybe he will catch on with a team that needs him. Why any team would claim him is hard to understand since it appears he can not hit over .200. The Twins have too much talent to hold on to him.
  9. Another game lost due to Rocco not having a clue on how to handle pitchers. Bringing in Lopez to pitch against a hitter that was 5 for 7 when facing Lopez has to be one of the worst pitching choices ever. Why would any manager make a choice like that? It is really hard to think that Rocco is a good manager when he makes a choice like that. Wish one of the writers would ask him why he made that move.
  10. Twins started the season with 5 experienced starting pitchers and now after less than a month are down to 3. Do other teams have as many injury problems as the Twins have year after year. It appears Twins do have some help in the minors, but it is still a concern. Hitting has picked up a little, but Correa was batting below .200 which is hard to understand. Hope his long term contract will not hurt the Twins future.
  11. It is hard to understand why Rocco or the pitching coach did not know Meada wasn't ready to pitch. He hasn't looked good in any of his starts and Twins cannot afford bad games like yesterday. The Twins are lucky to have other pitchers who can take his place. I would not be surprised if he never pitched again for the Twins.
  12. Twins pitching has been very good, but hitting has been below average with even the expected hitters doing poorly. We can hope the high paid hitters start earning their big paychecks. Correa is off to a really slow start and Buxton is not much better. Twins hitters seem to swing at a lot of bad pitches out of the strike zone. On numerous at bats the Twins hitters had 5 or 6 pitches out of the strike zone, but still ended up striking out. I would assume the batting coach would point this out to the batters. When a pitcher is having a hard time throwing strikes it would seem to make sense to take a few pitches.
  13. Why not think about him playing some first base? The Twins do not have a good first baseman and it should be a safer place for him to play. Many players seem to hit better when they play in the field. With Buxton's talent it would seem that he could play first base well.
  14. It looks like the Twins are finding the winning way to use pitchers. Have the starter pitch 7 innings and then bring in the Lopez and Duran to close the game. In the Twins long history they have had several very good closers and those teams were usually winners. It appears they have 2 pitchers that could fill the closer role. Winning teams almost always have a good closer. The Yankees were good for many years because they had a great closer.
  15. I keep waiting for Correa to start hitting, He left 6 on base last night and his batting average is way below what it should be for a player with his contract. Buxton batting average is also below average so it is disappointing as a fan to see the two highest paid hitters with such low batting averages.
  16. After 7 very good inning it was hard to believe the Twins were just 1 swing of the bat away from maybe losing this game. The bases were loaded in 8th and 9th inning. Moran almost lost the game with the 2 walks and I was surprised that Rocco left him in the game. There is no excuse to walk one batter much less two batters in 9th inning with 5 run lead. This is 2 outings in a row that Moran has pitched poorly and not sure how many chances he should get. Every game is important so Twins cannot have pitcher on roster that pitches poorly like Moran has.
  17. Thank you Ted for a well written article. It would seem that whatever pitching change would help the Twins win should be looked at. A good long term reliever is really important since any starting pitcher can have a off day due to some unknown reason so the team needs someone to come in to pitch 5 or 6 innings so Twins have chance to win game. Young players are the Twins future so other players need to be able to help wherever they can help the Twins win. Baseball is a team sport that needs every player helping the team win games.
  18. Signing Donaldson to a big contract was another mistake the Twins made. Whoever is making these choices should be fired. I think it is the same person that hired a trainee manager that has shown he should not be a manager.
  19. Twins give Buck a big contract and he doesn't hit. The Twins give Correa a big contract and he doesn't hit. The Twins give a big contract to Lopez and he hits 2 batters and walks 2 batters and gives up 4 hits in first 2 inning after getting big contract. Let's hope the Twins do not give out more big contracts since it seems to be the kiss of death. It all starts with leadership and Rocco is not a leader. His comments after losing game after game is we have to play better or we played bad last game and can not think about the lost game. The Twins need to hire an experienced manager and not keep their trainee manager. How many games must they lose due to poor management choices before Rocco is replaced?
  20. Look at Buxton's batting average. The Twins will never be a contending team with Rocco as manager. He has No clue on how to handle pitchers, doesn't have his batters move runners over, has losing record in 1 run games and losing record in extra inning games. Hard to watch the Twins play with him as manager.
  21. The 2023 Twins will probably be leaders in several areas. #1 in hitting into double plays. #1 with the least stolen bases. #1 with least wins in extra inning games. #1 with least wins in one run games. Until the Twins hire a real manager and not have a trainee manager they will not be in playoffs.
  22. What is the value of Nick Gordon? Hitting about .100 so gets one hit every 10 at bats. Hard to understand that the Twins don't have some young players that could do better since they could not do any worse. With a limited bench the Twins just can not afford a bench player that can not hit.
  23. What a wasted pitching effort from the starting pitcher. Having Nick Gordon pitch hit is a joke. He is a wasted at bat. Three swings and he is done. Not having Lopez pitch the 8th inning ( 0 runs allowed in 2023) and then the closer pitch the 9th inning probably cost the Twins a win, but what can we expect from a manager that has no clue on how to handle pitchers. Twins continue to hit into double plays (Twins hit into 3 and Washington 0) and make mistakes in the field. Hopefully one day Rocco will go away and the Twins can hire a real manager and not a trainee manager who seems to be a slow learner.
  24. If Taylor is the Twins MVP then the Twins are really in trouble. Talk about Gordon getting more playing time really shows how bad the Twins are since he isn't even hitting .100. Buxton and Correa have really been a disappointment this year. Time after time we see players getting big contracts and then not producing so hope they start earning their big paychecks or the Twins are not going to be in the playoffs again this year.
  25. When the Twins 2 highest paid batters are not hitting the team is in trouble. I am really concerned about Correa, but maybe his hitting will pick up. Is it possible that the hitting coach is a problem. Player after player keeps swinging at bad pitches. Time after time players have had no pitches thrown in strike zone, but strikeout. I have seen Twins batters get 5 or 6 pitches out of strike zone, but they still strike out. Everyone knew that scoring runs this year was going to be a problem, but hitting has been a bigger problem than expected with Buxton and Correa having really poor at bats.
