Miranda is just not hitting so he could be replaced. It appears we are leading all baseball teams with the lowest batting average and just about leading baseball with the most strikeouts. Unless our hitting improves it will be be hard to remain a winning team.

Twins have the lowest team batting average in MLB
John Belinski replied to sun's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
WOW that is really a surprise. I have seen games where our best hitters have left 4 or 5 runners on base. It is really hard to understand why our top 2 high paid batters are just not hitting. -

I am not sure if it lack of focus or a management problem. A team that continues to make mistakes usually needs better management. -
Twins Forced Into Glimpse of Future Rotation
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He has not helped the Twins and would be surprised if he ever did. That trade turned out to be a bad trade for the Twins.- 33 replies

Twins Forced Into Glimpse of Future Rotation
John Belinski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am still not sold that the trade for Lopez was a win win. Lopez has been ok, but the Twins really need hitting help that they traded away. Over the long season is a pitcher that pitches every 5 days worth more wins than a very good hitter that plays everyday. I really think the Twins would have a better record this year without that trade since they are just not getting enough hits to win games. The Twins certainly expected they would be getting more hits from their current players, but so far that has just not happened. Either the manager or hitting coach has to work with batters so they stop swinging at so many pitches out of the strike zone. Other teams know our batters are swinging at bad pitches so they will have their pitchers throw more pitches out of strike zone and fewer pitches in strike zone. With fewer good pitches to hit the Twins will continue to have more poor at bats.- 33 replies

Start supporting each other like a team should!
John Belinski commented on killebrewlover's blog entry in Killebrewlover
Another game that the Twins have the bases loaded and no outs, but they score 0 runs. It is hard to understand why the Twins have the worst record in baseball in scoring runs with the bases loaded. There has to be some reason why they have this problem. The players have to produce, but they need leadership which seems to be lacking. -
With the Twins not scoring runs it is time to think if a very good batter that plays everyday is worth more than a pitcher that pitches every 5 days? I think a everyday good hitter is worth more wins than a pitcher that pitches every 5 days. The Twins do lead baseball in one area and that is in most strikeouts. Both the manager and hitting coach have to do a better job working with hitters. I did look up the Twins pitching coach and he is a younger person without a lot of experience and was not a good hitter in his short career. I think a hitting coach should have experience and a history of being a good hitter.

Twins Offense in April
John Belinski commented on JHelley4's blog entry in THe twins offense is starting to catch fire, will it keep up?
The Twins are just not hitting well enough to keep winning games. They seem to swing at way too many pitches out of the strike zone. Time after time the Twins batters strike out when the pitcher doesn't throw even one pitch in the strike zone. News travels fast and more teams are going to have their pitchers throw fewer pitches in the strike zone. The manager or hitting coach have to help hitters improve and stop swinging at pitches well out of the strike zone. -
It is so hard to pick which college players will become future players with the Twins or any team. Some can field, but cannot hit while others can hit, but not become good in the field. It seems like a lot of really good hitters in college do not keep hitting when they become pro players. Do the different bats really make that much difference? Playing in the minors is probably not much rewarding so some good players could just decide to look elsewhere for their future job. With the future of playing 3 or 4 years in the minors some good college players just get better jobs in business for a better future. I think there has been some improvements in pay for those playing in the minors, but still think those players should be paid more since their current pay makes it hard for them to provide for their family.

Not-So-Lucky Nick Gordon
John Belinski commented on SportsGuyDalton's blog entry in SportsGuyDalton's Blog
I am not sure a player can be lucky or unlucky. I would guess most good hitters are lucky and most poor hitters are unlucky. I think Nick could be a OK player to have on the bench, but will never be a starting player. It appears the Twins could have several young players that could become starting players. With the limited roster spots each team has it is difficult to keep players that could be a OK player, but not enough talent to become a starting player. Our young players may not be ready this year so players like Nick are needed on this team, but he may not have a spot next year unless he starts getting more "lucky" hits. -
Almost the whole team is batting below what was expected. Our two stars are batting way below what was expected. It seems like the biggest problem is the batters swinging at so many pitches well out of the strike zone. Other teams will certainly know about this and will have their pitchers throw more pitches out of the strike zone since the Twins batters are swinging and missing them. It would appear either the manager or hitting coach has to start helping the hitters to be more selective. The longer the Twin's players keep swinging at bad pitches they will see fewer pitches that they can hit in the strike zone.

Larnach had 7 strikeouts in a row. Think we need to give AK a chance since it appears he could not do much worse. Larnach has been swinging at way too many bad pitches, but so has several other players. The manager or hitting coach needs to help these batters to start swinging at pitches in the strike zone and not swing at pitches well out of strike zone.

I would be surprised if was of any help to the Twins this year or ever

Start supporting each other like a team should!
John Belinski commented on killebrewlover's blog entry in Killebrewlover
The Twins are certainly not playing like a Championship team. Their starting pitchers seem to be above average, their bullpen seems average, their fielding seems average and their hitting is below average. They should win their weak division, but need better hitting to beat good teams. They went into Chicago with some people expecting a sweep, but they were lucky to win one game. If their two high paid stars don't start hitting the Twins will continue to not play like a championship team -

You're Wrong to Not Like Max Kepler
John Belinski replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Max. He may not be a star, but he is certainly not a bum. He doesn't swing at a lot of bad pitches and he is good in the outfield. Good teams need a few star players, but also need players like Max. I do think he should not be batting in the leadoff spot, but the Twins do not really have a good leadoff batter and that has hurt the Twins this year. -
What's wrong with Jose Miranda? How long is his leash?
John Belinski replied to ZachB's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I agree that he is swinging at too many bad pitches, but so are several other hitters. I have watched several batters swing at 3 or 4 pitches well out of the strike zone. Batters striking out when not even one pitch was in the strike zone. The Twins manager or hitting coach needs to do a better job with helping the batters. The word is going to get out about the Twins swinging at bad pitches so they will see fewer pitches to hit. In today's world information like this will certainly hurt the Twins if they continue to swing at bad pitches. The Twins have several hitters that no pitcher should ever throw a pitch in the strike zone. If I can see that problem then other teams will certainly have their pitchers throw fewer pitches in strike zone. -
Byron Buxton Now, Alex Kirilloff Later
John Belinski replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I certainly agree with calling up AK. He should be given a chance to see if he can hit at this level. He should be able to do better than 7 straight strikeouts that the player he replaced had. The Twins had nothing to lose up calling him up and giving him a chance. -
Is Bailey Ober Sustainable?
John Belinski replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Several tall pitchers have had very good records. Last night was a really well pitched game. He pitched 7 full innings and had 91 pitches with only 3 hits given up. It was one of the better pitched games this year and he was much better than the 2 pitchers we put on the IR list. Those 2 pitchers have not helped the Twins this year and I would be surprised if they come back as winning pitchers. The only way to build a winning team is with young talent and it appears the Twins have some young players that will help them win either this year or next year. I was against signing Correa to a big long term contract since we have young players that may not be able to play since we have to play Correa due to his big contract. We now have a $200 million player batting .200 in the number 3 spot in lineup. -
VIDEO: Should We Worry About Carlos Correa Yet?
John Belinski replied to Baseball AF's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am certainly concerned about his hitting. Way too many strikeouts and swinging at bad pitchers plus he has hit into several bad double plays. I do not know if he is trying too hard or if he will start hitting better soon. The Twins invested so much money in him so it will be a major problem if he doesn't start getting big hits soon. I was not a fan of signing him to a big contract since we have some good young SS coming up. The Twins need him to start hitting. I just do not understand why Rocco keeps batting him at the top of lineup when Correa is hitting about .200. In several games Correa has left 4 or more runners on base since he is just not hitting. To have a number 3 batter hitting .200 is just not a good idea. -
I want to update my posting since I went back and looked at last 2 games. Larnach has struck out his last 7 at bats. He had 4 K's one game and then 3 K's in other game. It certainly seems he is having a hitting problem and not helping the Twins. Let's give AK a chance.

It is really disappointing when the Twins have the bases loaded and no outs have their 2 highest paid batters coming up and score NO runs. I assumed doubleplay Correa would hit into his regular double play so we could at least get one run. We can not expect our 2 highest players to get a hit when needed, but to not score at least 1 run is really hard to accept.

Larnach is just not hitting. I think he has had 4 or 5 KO in last 2 games. Give Kir a chance to play since it appears he could not do any worse than Larnach.

The Twins certainly have enough talent to win the division, but when the talented players do not perform they lose. The Twins just have not got enough performance from their talented players.

Just a few days ago there was talk of a sweep, but after two poorly played games maybe the Sox will sweep. Rocco said there is no one to blame, but when the Twins have the bases loaded with no outs and their 2 highest paid players coming to bat it is really disappointing that they do not score even one run. If the Twins can not get big hits from their high paid hitters they will have a hard time winning.
