I know they made the move for Castillo; however, for the short term, I would have thought Julien would be called up.
-
no doubt, this is what, I think, most of us were hoping...that Brooks Lee could be a good 2nd bagger. Wow!

Twins Trade Deadline: The Bailey Ober Threshold
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's how i see it as well. Unless things change (which of course they can/will), the Twins top 3 starters look like good playoff starters. I agree with the premise that the Twins need another playoff worthy starter, but I don't feel like that starter needs to be better than Ober as the cost is likely prohibitive. What's funny is that it seems like the general consensus before the season started is that the Twins were one good starter from having a playoff competitive team. Seemingly, that remains the case. Stewart, Paddock and Varland likely bolster the pen and the hitting just needs to avoid injuries!- 54 replies

The Minnesota Twins Most Unlikely All-Star
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So cool for Willi Castro. And a very nice article! -
Buxton's double freaked me out he was moving so fast. He is an electrifying player. I know, I know...when healthy.

Alcala, to Jax to Duran looks like a nice playoff relief pitching plan.

Bad timing on this comment. I think he walked twice yesterday. But yes, his k/walk ratio isn't great. But what we are getting is excellent.

Week in Review: Winning Out West
Jeff K replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was on the launch Vazquez train; however, your comments turned me around. This is especially true when the rest of the team (except) Farmer is hitting a ton.- 47 replies

And no matter how you slice it with Farmer, at the half way point in the season, his batting average is below .200. As Mike put it, you get creative with the AB's to ensure Lee get's his.
-
He doesn't have to. Replacing Farmer. Castro has played every game this season. I think he can get his ab's elsewhere in the lineup.
-
Farmer is an end of the roster player as is Margot. Neither of which have long term impact. As you said, they are sunk costs. Perhaps we can get something, or not. We won't be worse off with their replacements.

I am glad that Farmer and Margot have improved enough to possibly be part of a package deal at the trade deadline. Obviously a decent starter would be nice to acquire, but the Twins could also use more depth in their solid bullpen. Lee is seemingly ready which ought to doom Farmer's tenure on the Twins beyond the trade deadline. As was pointed out, at his best, Margot is not a worthy corner outfielder from a hitting perspective. I would prefer to roll the dice on Wallner and possibly Kirilloff.

To me, the last Twins super utility guy was Nick Punto. Castro and Punto are different in many ways; however, both players greatly exceeded expectations. I'm greatly appreciative of both players past/present.

Minnesota Twins Prospect Tiers for the 2024 Trade Deadline
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I fully agree with you. I think the Twins can make the playoffs, but they have too many holes to go deep. Don't trade any future major leaguer(s) to make a push when it's most unlikely that they can get past the Yankees, Guardians, or Orioles.- 59 replies

I've been a Kirilloff fan for some time; however, his production is not where it needs to be. Wallner and Brooks Lee should be up pretty soon. Previously, I thought at the expense of Margot and Farmer, but now I am starting to think at the expense of Kirilloff and Farmer. Also, I would NOT be a buyer at the trade deadline unless things turn around dramatically. Why? While I think the Twins a pretty decent chance to make the playoffs, I can't see them getting past the likes of the Yankees, Orioles or Guardians. So don't move young talent unless you feel the team can make a deep run. And I feel the Twins have too many flaws to make that big of a leap. At some point, ownership is going to need to invest in more starting pitching and a bopper, but our excellent young talent needs to become more consistent.

The lack of timely hitting is unbearable. The starting pitching is starting to look thin (leaving Ryan out of that). Stating the obvious, but the team just might not be good enough. We have too many guys hitting near (and below) .200. I think a shake-up is in order. 1. I would bring up Festa and put one of our starters on the DL (likely Paddack). I would also call up Varland as a one inning reliever. I would send down Castillo and Sands. 2. I would call up Wallner and Lee. Lee might not be ready, and if not, then Martin. The team needs to be shaken up. I would DFA Margot & Farmer. I'm a Farmer fan, but the Twins just can't carry his poor bat any longer. They don't have that luxury especially when their stars are not hitting as well as expected...Buxton and even Correa.

Three Silver Linings to Edouard Julien's Demotion
Jeff K replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Wallner is close, if not ready. Saving an injury, the casualty has to be Margot. Margot would likely make it through waivers. I think Julien NEEDS this hard reset. His strike out rate (especially not swinging K's) must be addressed; especially if Julien is to become the player most of us think he can be. He has to show significant improvement before being called up. Otherwise, he might regress. Barring that improvement, I could see Lee or Martin being the next infielder coming up.
