I believe Varland should be a reliever. Any article that claims that Dobnak should be considered for a role on the team loses me immediately!

I agree with keeping Farmer and moving on from Miranda. I can't help but believe Kirilloff should stay. I know, I know...the injuries.

Great article and I also agree with your comments. I certainly believe Polanco should be traded. As you stated, the issue with Kepler is the lack of depth in outfield positions. Certainly Kirilloff can move back to the outfield which would likely happen if Kepler is traded. Lastly, with Vasquez, the Twins are carrying two starting quality catchers and while that is beneficial, I think with a salary strapped team, it is too much of a luxury. I would move Vasquez before moving Kepler and I think he has more years remaining on his contract.

At the risk of sounding like Pollyanna: I think the Twins have a shot at Gray. His contract could land in the 3 years totaling 60 to 65 Million. I know the Twins are reducing salary, but with all the free agents departing they could handle this contract if they look at moving Polanco where we have a surplus of players on the rise.

Justin Turner Could Be the Next Boomstick For the Twins
Jeff K replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only thing I disagree with is with Kirilloff. I am reasonably bullish on his health (maybe too much so). With that in mind, Kirilloff could also fit into the corner outfield equation, especially if the Twins move Kepler for payroll reasons. If that is the case, then there is a reasonable argument for Turner. I am apparently less bullish on Miranda than most and don't see him on the team. -
I'd like to see Royce Lewis signed to a long term contract quickly rather than going through his arbitration years. They ought to be able to lock him in for a longer contract and create some value.

I agree with so much of this! I'm not sure the Twins need to dumpster dive for their 5th starter. If they move Polanco and Farmer, they ought to have financial room to bring in a quality starter; possibly Gray. But the future for the Twins is their excellent, and still developing, young core which they should protect!

I think the Cruz resigning was outstanding as we picked up Ryan through trade. That by itself ought to raise the one grade.

I can't imagine Gray getting a 4 year deal. While you focused on Farmer, I think the more likely victim is Jorge Polanco. The Twins have a surplus of infielders at the major league and in the high minors. If Polanco is moved, that saves $10 Million and could bring a decent reliever (offset some of the $10 Million). I agree that picking up an outfield bat is unlikely which tells me, the Twins will keep Kepler since this is NOT an area of strength. If the Twins are closer to $140 Million in payroll and make a couple of moves, they still could sign Gray. I think the bigger problem is going to be having to pay our young stars what they are worth in the coming years.

I agree that Polanco is a tradeable asset. Love the guy, but we have a surplus of infielders and Jorge isn't getting younger.

We are all just guessing; however, the numbers I've seen bandied about are lower. I think Sonny will be hard pressed to get a 4 year deal.

Those are the two guys I like most from the list. I don't want Giolito who was simply terrible this year. Also, I don't think Gray is going to get as much as is projected. I think (and maybe it's hope) that his top end is 3 years @ $75Million total. I could also envision 3 years at 60 million. I would sign him for those dollars. Even if his production drops to to that of a 3 starter, that would make a fine rotation.

Interesting observation. I wonder if that data is available.

Nelson Cruz Calls it a Career, Retires at 42
Jeff K replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This made me laugh, thanks! Not thinking of Sano is good for everyone's health! -
100% agree. I've seen similar ratings from another source (maybe Cbs sports?). Maeda is also shown around #25. I hope the Twins go after one of the top guys not named Ohtani so that the top of our rotation is as strong as 2023. The money shown does not seem outrageous. And it's well past time to stop talking about the Twins/Pohlads being cheap. That is old news. They are no longer that organization.

Two Paths for Emmanuel Rodriguez and the Twins
Jeff K replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I definitely agree that the Twins should continue to bring him along. Yes, the Twins need to bolster their starting pitching, but they have 4 solid starters so they ought not be desperate. I think they should pursue Gray and Maeda unless the dollars get ridiculous. Right now, I think Gray is rated around the 7th or 8th best free agent and Maeda around 25th. I think they are gettable and we already know that they are a good fit for the team.
