Feel a little bad for Maeda, he's been more consistent than Ryan down the stretch and I'm a little nervous about potential fatigue issues with Ober after his rest. To me it seems like Maeda is getting moved to the bullpen less because of his performance this year and more because we have no idea if Ryan or Ober could pitch effectively out of the pen.

Yeah for me he's behind Duran, Thielbar, Varland, and surprisingly Pagan. If the playoffs started tomorrow he isn't touching the mound with the game tied or a lead under 3 runs

Best Twins Career: Buxton vs. Polanco vs. Kepler
danielp19653 replied to John Kelsey's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think its Kepler, Polanco, then Buxton. I could be convinced to swap Polanco and Kepler based on Polanco's better floor to Kepler's but also like the added value of Kepler's defense over the years to Polanco's -

I think I would slide Thielbar and Stewart ahead of Polanco and Lewis purely because Julien and Solano are holding down the other two spots and performing well. Bullpen depth I think provides more immediate value over what we are currently rolling out

Trading for Bellinger, what would you give?
danielp19653 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I imagine it will take a pretty solid prospect or two to outbid and I have 0 interest in that for him. I'd rather see what he wants in the offseason and take a chance on that -
Which Twins Left-Handed Outfielder Should Go?
danielp19653 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm not against moving one or both, they obviously aren't providing a ton of value that would need to get replaced. However Larnach like Gallo looked bad after the first month, Wallner looked like he had never played outfield in his life when called up and took horrendous routes to balls, and outside the last 2 games when he reached base 9 times in a row I don't think he reached base once before IIRC. Bringing up young players to replace declining veterans is rarely a bad choice but if you're expecting either of these guys to play better you're probably going to be disappointed. -
this contact play with a runner on third is maddening

Pablo Lopez is Better than His ERA
danielp19653 replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Isn't this the same argument that's been made for Pagan the last two years and Kepler the last 3 years? At what point do we accept that some people will never play as well as their advanced analytics suggest? Some people just have some issue that undermines it, Kepler hits a lot of balls hard straight up or down which wrecks his stats, Pagan can't help himself but to throw a pitch down the middle whenever a game is close, Lopez can't help but randomly implode for an inning every game or two. Not saying he's bad or the contract is anything that should be a pain point, but maybe we should stop trying to suggest that everyone is magically going to improve and they simply are what they are. -
How Invested Are You in the 2023 Twins season?
danielp19653 replied to Vanimal46's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Amount of games I watch and how much of the game I watch is dropping rapidly as this team never seems to get better, probably tune out entirely by mid to late July. -
Can the Twins Get Better at the Deadline?
danielp19653 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was thinking Wallner and Larnach taking Kepler and Gallo at bats, feels like at worst a wash offensively, maybe a bit of a drop in defensive value but it honestly doesn't look like either really wants to play defense most days so might be a wash there as well. Miranda replaces Solanon as that often used corner infielder to rest players, I agree harder to fit him in with DH gone but he's been hitting well in AAA the last month and its time to figure out whether he's made the adjustment or will forever be Austadillo at the MLB level flailing at everything for easy outs. Julien can handle second, not like Palonco was ever good defensively either, Lee or Martin also give some depth there next year if he really regresses defensively. Not saying moving on from those guys makes us better this year but do think it puts us in a better spot the next three years with some reinforcements from trades in the minors to fill holes and (such as in the bullpen) and gives a better idea of where we need to actually target above bench level players on the MLB roster in FA if those AAA/AA guys aren't going to adjust.- 53 replies

Can the Twins Get Better at the Deadline?
danielp19653 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Honestly I think I'd rather see them on the sell side this deadline, start clearing room for the AAA guys and figure out what you have. Kepler, Polanco, Gallo, and Solano just don't seem to have any future on the team. Could take it one step further and say Gray and Maeda since neither will be back next year but I don't think the Twins are so bad you actively hurt your team to get Gray out. Get what you can get for them and clear space. Don't send prospects off for a team that can barely manage .500 and struggles against the Tigers.- 53 replies

I worked with her for a little while at the hockey lodge during Wild games, such an incredibly kind person and easy to talk to. Miss the random chats we had waiting for the gates to open.

Should The Twins Make A Swap At Third Base?
danielp19653 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Put Buck on the IL until he can play the field, pull up Miranda, then DH either Miranda or Julien and Lewis takes the other spot. We aren't competitive enough this year to not try and let the youth movement take over. -
I'm not sure where the hate towards his defense is coming from either? From what I see on baseball reference he's been a plus defender at second and neutral at first? Sure 4 defensive runs saved isn't incredible but would be a career best for Polanco or Dozier before him? The best defensive season in the last ~11 years at second and a plus DRS doesn't scream bad defense to me

this is an interesting one, I don't think I'd throw him on the disappointing list as I don't think he's been as bad as his ERA, although I am starting to get concerned with him looking like our fifth best starter two months into the season. Some of that is some really impressive pitching out of Varland and Ober that I didn't expect as they worked their way in, but trading for a guy to pitch on opening day and watching him slide behind a lot of other arms is concerning.

I probably would bump Buxton to the fifth spot, I didn't expect hardly anything from Mahle with the shoulder issues last year being unresolved. I did expect a bit more offensively from Buxton and a looooot more defensively. Once the weather warmed I though he'd be around a 50/50 split out in center and have 15-20 games out there at this point. He's a streaky hitter in a lineup of them and without the consistent defense it's harder to feel good about it in those two week stretches he struggles to make contact.

Agree with the above should have 3 pitchers in, can argue about the order of Duran, Gray, and Ryan but all have been tremendous. Simply no argument to made for the hitters with how awful and inconsistent they've been. Jeffers is the closest for me with Kirilloff second but neither have played enough to be seriously considered. Buxton has had two hot stretched this year keeping him from being in the same production level of the bottom of our order so unless he has some absolute tear about ready to kick off I don't know how you even consider him.

hopeful for 3 of 4, expect 2-2, Cleveland always seems to play well against the Twins regardless of who is hot or cold coming in. I also just don't trust this lineup to not get shutout at least 1 night

Found this over on baseball savant would guess its more SSS than an actual regression but might be a bit hesitant to send him on the basepaths if this is accurate

Game Thread: Jays (Berríos) v Twins (Ober), 5/28 @ 1:10pm
danielp19653 replied to Squirrel's topic in Archived Game Threads
What running into an out and Buxton striking out with a runner in scoring position. I am shocked. Must be the first wasted inning this year for the twins.
