  1. The more I watch the twins the more impressed I am they've won this many games, the approach at the plate is atrocious. Swinging at more balls in the dirt than they watch and watching more balls in the zone than they swing at.
  2. Ah yes the I forgot my bat in the dugout approach with a runner in scoring position
  3. Let me rephrase that the analytics guys absolutely love their stuff and everything is in the 90th percentile for spin, extension, etc. But it just doesn't translate to games at all.
  4. Jax is turning into Pagan, great stuff on paper but can't protect a lead to save his life.
  5. That was the most pagan appearance of all time
  6. maybe we should just have the runner on third try to steal home, at least then the bases wouldn't be loaded and we might score
  7. I see Dick is going for the ole announcer jinx on Gray
  8. I'm sure it was because I was like 10 at the time but I remember Lew Ford being one of my favorite players haha, don't remember anything about his career or how well he played but was always one of my favorites.
  9. Yeah I think Varland's next two outings may go a long way in deciding whether Maeda is a starter going forward or a reliever. Ober has cemented himself in my opinion (but that just covers Mahle now), Varland has been more inconsistent and hasn't quite convinced me he's the for sure 5th starter at this point. If Maeda comes back and the Twins worry about load could be a piggy back situation too giving each 3-4 innings and hopefully giving the rest of the bullpen a night off every 5 days.
  10. On FanGraphs it looks like from the DH position the Twins are 18th in wRC which would suggest it isn't working great, I imgaine Buxton will heat up again like he did a couple weeks ago, but hard to feel like the Twins are getting so much production from the DH with him there it wouldn't be better to rotate some other guys through.
  11. Not that I necessarily think they should as it seems like players are high on him, but what about whoever the hitting coach is in AAA? Seems like a lot of players sent down start producing again rather quickly. While a lot of that is easier pitching staffs I have to imagine they have the same scouting reports the MLB teams had and players wouldn't see the uptick they have been as quickly if he didn't give them some piece of advice that was working. Might also help out a lot of the younger guys who are more familiar with him vs Popkins, since he was the person who helped them get into the MLB.
  12. Seems like the contact and power are both still there he just lost the strike zone and his own hot zones. Getting a couple weeks in AAA with some easier pitchers hopefully resets his eyes and timing and this is just a small sophomore slump to start the year.
  13. The challenge system doesn't seem much better than the current system to me, just as many pitches called incorrectly with a slight chance of 1 or 2 getting overturned but adding in scattered mid at bat delays the pitch clock just got rid of. I'd rather have the current system or the fully automated.
  14. I hope it leads to more money, but given the death of RSNs I don't think the Twins are going to get a deal much better than they currently have. They weren't listed as one of teams running negative for Bally but if they're willing to not pay them and potentially lose this one year of coverage they obviously aren't generating a ton more. I don't see them taking a new RSN deal unless it allows streaming rights but that also lessens the value of the cable side. I think the tv deal with streaming rights probably pulls the same money they currently get. Also love the Pablo news, makes me feel much better about the state of the rotation next year.
  15. I guess this was more my point earlier not that I think Garlick is a bad player or shouldn't be on the Twins roster with the injuries that have happened. he absolutely has a role. But he's also not young and everyone knows what he is. There's no reason for another team to take the claim if they have any outfield options to give some reps too. Right handed pitching is far more common and there's a reason the Twins try really hard not to let him hit against righties.
  16. I just don't think there are many teams willing to take him as that fifth outfielder who only hits lefties and plays below average defense. You don't play lefties all that often and if his defense doesn't make him serviceable for stretches when someone goes down he's hard to justify a roster spot for.
  17. When Gallo or Kepler is back I'd be curious to see if the Twins would be willing to shift Buck to right, and let Gallo and Kepler handle CF. Gets Taylor out of the lineup against righties and lets buck use his arms more than his legs and with reduced ground to cover hopefully keeps him off the wall at full sprint.
  18. Hard to fault him for the run in the tenth, got three pretty soft grounders and got burned on the infield playing in with one out after the first grounder moved the runner to third. Without the runner starting on second that was a 1-2-3 inning. Granted given we're stuck with that stupid rule you probably want a high K rate pitcher to come in which so far Lopez hasn't looked like this year.
  19. I sure hope the Twins end up on MLB.tv for local streaming I would gladly pay the $15 a month to kill the $50 a month Xfinity charges for the base cable package to get the Twins
  20. My guess is the answer to the first is that the Twins are in the last year of their deal and have refused to sell Bally the streaming rights. Bally is probably just content to let that play out knowing the Twins were gone next year anyways and use the money on one of the teams with a longer contract. Second question I believe the Cleveland signed a TV deal a lot more recently than the Twins, similar to the Padres who have a similar viewership ratings but got paid WAY more because it was more recent. Cleveland was one of the teams along with the Padres who are losing money for Bally so obviously those contracts didn't work out great and hurt the Twins chances of pulling in a decent deal next offseason. The Twins were listed as profitable at their annual cost though so hopefully they can get a decent tv deal somewhere to bump the revenue a bit.
  21. While I agree with most here the Kepler and Gallo just don't seem like great leadoff options against righties I think its going to be in flux until Gordon, Kepler, Kirilloff, Polanco, or Gallo shows they're hitting righties well and consistently. I have no doubt at least one will emerge. Gallo and Kepler both hit some balls really hard this series so I'm not as worried about Kepler's 0-13 as some are. It'll work itself out before the end of April if I had to guess.
  22. the timing of this article and Gallo finally remembering you have to hit the ball for it go over the fence is fantastic
  23. I'd prefer fully automated or fully human, the challenge system just seems incredibly pointless. We're going to make the umpire guess all while having a system show when he's wrong and the team gets to try and guess when he's wrong and call him out. If you're going to have the automated system running for every pitch anyways just use it to make the call and be done with. I don't enjoy watching players walk on obvious strikes or strike out on obvious balls, so I'd prefer the fully automated but not if it comes with the challenges.
  24. There is absolutely no way he can handle 70% of games in the outfield. I think much more reasonable amount for him would be closer to 50-30-20. We all want to see the guy play all season but we have a hard enough time getting him to play half the season let alone 70% of the season in the most physically demanding position on the field. We have 4 players who can play center on the roster, while Buxton is the best at it there's no way his body is going to hold up for more than half the season out there. He has the bat on this team to be the DH, with Arraez gone and 30% of the DH starts up for grabs give them to Buxton. Who cares if he doesn't love being a DH, he also doesn't love getting his knee drained daily and IL stints either.
  25. Personally I'm a fan of the 6 man rotation with the Twins roster, Everyone except Ryan has injury issues and couldn't stay on the field within the last two years. Give them the extra day off and hopefully that keeps them all out there for more starts on the year and potentially deeper in games where 80-90 pitch count isn't quite as concerning with the extra day off. I don't see anyway they get through May with all 6 still healthy so get through the cold months with the extra arms then condense to 5 with whoever goes down and bring up the extra long reliever from AAA
