  1. I guess this was more my point earlier not that I think Garlick is a bad player or shouldn't be on the Twins roster with the injuries that have happened. he absolutely has a role. But he's also not young and everyone knows what he is. There's no reason for another team to take the claim if they have any outfield options to give some reps too. Right handed pitching is far more common and there's a reason the Twins try really hard not to let him hit against righties.
  2. I just don't think there are many teams willing to take him as that fifth outfielder who only hits lefties and plays below average defense. You don't play lefties all that often and if his defense doesn't make him serviceable for stretches when someone goes down he's hard to justify a roster spot for.
  3. When Gallo or Kepler is back I'd be curious to see if the Twins would be willing to shift Buck to right, and let Gallo and Kepler handle CF. Gets Taylor out of the lineup against righties and lets buck use his arms more than his legs and with reduced ground to cover hopefully keeps him off the wall at full sprint.
  4. Hard to fault him for the run in the tenth, got three pretty soft grounders and got burned on the infield playing in with one out after the first grounder moved the runner to third. Without the runner starting on second that was a 1-2-3 inning. Granted given we're stuck with that stupid rule you probably want a high K rate pitcher to come in which so far Lopez hasn't looked like this year.
  5. I sure hope the Twins end up on MLB.tv for local streaming I would gladly pay the $15 a month to kill the $50 a month Xfinity charges for the base cable package to get the Twins
  6. My guess is the answer to the first is that the Twins are in the last year of their deal and have refused to sell Bally the streaming rights. Bally is probably just content to let that play out knowing the Twins were gone next year anyways and use the money on one of the teams with a longer contract. Second question I believe the Cleveland signed a TV deal a lot more recently than the Twins, similar to the Padres who have a similar viewership ratings but got paid WAY more because it was more recent. Cleveland was one of the teams along with the Padres who are losing money for Bally so obviously those contracts didn't work out great and hurt the Twins chances of pulling in a decent deal next offseason. The Twins were listed as profitable at their annual cost though so hopefully they can get a decent tv deal somewhere to bump the revenue a bit.
  7. While I agree with most here the Kepler and Gallo just don't seem like great leadoff options against righties I think its going to be in flux until Gordon, Kepler, Kirilloff, Polanco, or Gallo shows they're hitting righties well and consistently. I have no doubt at least one will emerge. Gallo and Kepler both hit some balls really hard this series so I'm not as worried about Kepler's 0-13 as some are. It'll work itself out before the end of April if I had to guess.
  8. the timing of this article and Gallo finally remembering you have to hit the ball for it go over the fence is fantastic
  9. I'd prefer fully automated or fully human, the challenge system just seems incredibly pointless. We're going to make the umpire guess all while having a system show when he's wrong and the team gets to try and guess when he's wrong and call him out. If you're going to have the automated system running for every pitch anyways just use it to make the call and be done with. I don't enjoy watching players walk on obvious strikes or strike out on obvious balls, so I'd prefer the fully automated but not if it comes with the challenges.
  10. There is absolutely no way he can handle 70% of games in the outfield. I think much more reasonable amount for him would be closer to 50-30-20. We all want to see the guy play all season but we have a hard enough time getting him to play half the season let alone 70% of the season in the most physically demanding position on the field. We have 4 players who can play center on the roster, while Buxton is the best at it there's no way his body is going to hold up for more than half the season out there. He has the bat on this team to be the DH, with Arraez gone and 30% of the DH starts up for grabs give them to Buxton. Who cares if he doesn't love being a DH, he also doesn't love getting his knee drained daily and IL stints either.
  11. Personally I'm a fan of the 6 man rotation with the Twins roster, Everyone except Ryan has injury issues and couldn't stay on the field within the last two years. Give them the extra day off and hopefully that keeps them all out there for more starts on the year and potentially deeper in games where 80-90 pitch count isn't quite as concerning with the extra day off. I don't see anyway they get through May with all 6 still healthy so get through the cold months with the extra arms then condense to 5 with whoever goes down and bring up the extra long reliever from AAA
  12. Man I would gladly take a full roster of pitchers all sitting around or below a 3.5 ERA, I don't know how that would be feasible but would love to see it. Feels like second half of last year may have been valued a little heavy based on Pagan and Lopez's reliever projections.
  13. I guess I don't see the harm in letting Megill try and sort out pitch location to start the year in AAA that's not something that requires MLB innings, seems like he has good velocity but struggles with keeping it at the top of the zone and it falls into the belt area too often. I agree no one in the bullpen should have a long leash with the options on hand but why would that mean we wouldn't sign Hand with a shorter leash? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the end of the article but feels like you're saying don't sign Hand because a long leash could be bad, so give the current options a long leash instead. I'd rather take the extra option and give him the lower leverage spots and if he still performs above the xERA great we have an extra option as a setup guy, Otherwise cut him and bring up the best option from AAA and he gets the low leverage spots.
  14. Reducing the position players is a win in my opinion, would be more efficient to just let the other team forfeit and just not play the last two innings but that will never happen. Like most not a big fan of the implementation the free runner, I think most suggestions I've heard would be better in my opinion such as having them at 1st to allow a DP as an option. Or only having the runner after 12 innings. But at the end of the day their goal is purely end the game as quickly as possible post nine innings, and short of having a home run derby situation like the shoot out in hockey I don't know how you get the MLB on board with anything other than this or allowing ties.
  15. Are the Marlins picking up Lopez's Salary for the year? I don't remember the exact terms but if not would that set us closer to the even line? (No idea what his arb salary is or the trade terms on that)
  16. I agree at the end of the day it plays out the same or worse most times the ball is in play, not like anyone has an .800 average on balls in play, but I think the biggest part is that subconscious hope as someone just watching the game. When Arraez came up with someone out on second you have the part of you that can't imagine anything other than a poke into the grass for a run, and alternatively when Sano or Gallo comes up that it'll be another strike out or lazy fly ball 250' from home. Like I said overall I think he probably ends the season as a worthwhile pick up for the price. Just makes watching games less entertaining, something I think baseball as a whole is struggling with as pitchers improve and the guys who play to the three true outcome side become more common. You expect less and less to happen each at bat when guys like him come up. You expect the strike out instead of a ball in play that could be an error or find space.
  17. My biggest complaint is just the absolute misery of watching a guy totally incapable of making contact for weeks at a time. I don't think anyone would say he has no value or even if he has a low average he can't provide at least starter level value over a season but like Sano man is it the worst feeling ever as a fan to have a runner on second or third with one out and see him come up and flail away.
  18. I can't imagine a more miserable way to start watching every game than Gallo flailing at a ball for an out day after day for the chance he hits 2 or 3 leadoff 1 run homeruns
  19. The first month or two of the season will be big for Lopez and the FO, sending Arraez out for someone who doesn't immediately perform and at a high level can turn a fan base pretty quick. I doubt they could have gotten a better pitcher for what the had available on the roster but this seems like a move that saves the FO or the last straw among a lot of fans. Wish the guy luck and can't blame the FO for the move but will definitely add some intrigue early especially if Arraez starts hot like last year.
  20. I always wondered if that tarp was better to jump into or if Hunter was just that good at taking the impact in a way that kept him from getting hurt. It's been a while but I can't say I remember him ever having any sort of impactful injury from that wall.
  21. Specifically with the Twins stadium I think it might be a good idea to get rid of the gaps filled with chain link in front of the bullpens. As a fan its kind of nice to have the extra visibility, but every time I see an outfielder run into that section of wall and an arm or leg gets hooked on it weird it's terrifying.
  22. I feel like the FO is taking the gamble in the next 6 years they can have at least 1 or 2 seasons both play 120+ games and are available in the playoffs with a decent to good young group of supporting players to make a deep run. With both of them the way they've been I don't hate the idea of it. With the payroll they have it's probably the most likely scenario to bring a championship. Obviously pitching has been an issue but there's enough depth to the rotation its not impossible to have 3 or 4 guys develop into worthwhile starters in that 6 year window.
  23. When I saw the Mets signed him I assumed they offered near or exactly what the Giants did to steal him. Seeing it just barely above what the Twins offered when I'm sure they already knew any medical issues that could have come up after a year with him blew me away. How do you not make that last push when the price just dropped him so close to your previous offer. Especially when you've seen Gallo is the best you can do with what's left??? This is more infuriating to me than the initial miss as I can't see the Twins at 350 but come on matching 315 or slightly better wasn't an option? I have to imagine matching the deal and saying you're our SS not our 3B would have helped their cause.
  24. I completely agree, especially with Kepler still on the roster. It sure feels like he'll be gone but if not, Gallo and Kepler are going to get most of the starts out there with their defense so Gordon would be down to only a couple games a week at best when Buxton needs rest. I'd rather give him the chance to prove he can be an everyday player before Lewis is back and either have a super valuable trade piece in him or the ability to ship someone else out and have Gordon take the spot.
