  1. Really think FO deserves a bunch of credit for the guys you mentioned, Taylor-Farmer-Solano plus one you didn’t mention or I missed, Willi Castro. Between the 4 of them, after the signing of CC, and before Gordon got hurt, they were probably expected to start or be inserted into 50 - 60 - 40 - 35 games respectively. I’m not sure where they are at but my assumption is they started over 400 games between them? ……had to look it up, 2 of them 120 plus games & other 2 of them 130 plus games appeared in through Sunday. They’ve become part of our core group!! HUGE additions from outside the organization! How’s the Rogers - Rooker trade for Pagan & Paddack working out as of October of ‘23? How about picking up Ryan for an end of career Nellie Cruz? Signing Stewart off the scrap heap from somewhere. Mahle’s trade sucked, in hindsight (am here in Cincinnati) but the Sonny Gray move has worked out well! Gallo experiment turned out to be neutral over 162. Tried with Vazquez as well, and as 2nd catchers go, probably a I get Buxton & CC aren’t paying near-term dividends but gotta think decent health is on the horizon for both of them, along with reasonable production…….’24 & forward. These various trade moves along with Lewis - Julien - Jeffers - Wallner - Jax - Funderburk & a few to come, (not necessarily from this FO, understood) from inside the organization, show the FO isn’t as inept as many in this forum make them out to be. Should celebrate the success this year & probable upside going forward.
  2. Doubt either of these guys (Larnach - Buxton) has any influence in the series coming up……..gotta give AB’s to guys that have been getting it done. Kuechel is on the IL, so that’s not an issue. Paddack instead of OR in addition to Funderburk??? Curious about roster! Ober threw 6 1/3 on Sunday and won’t be back on 3 days rest on Thursday. Doubt very much he is rostered! I do like him as our Game 1 guy in the 2nd Series on Saturday, regardless of if Ryan doesn’t need to pitch. Our analytics guys have to recognize Ryan is way better at home than on the road…….this said, he doesn’t pitch in Houston. Ober then Lopez on the weekend!
  3. Kuechel is 85% guile at this point…..can’t be rostered. We need right handed bat more than Larnach…….if Buxton’s health isn’t there then he’s considered! With Kepler & Wallner playing the way they have, no spot for Larnach. It’s possible they keep Stevenson just for pinch running situations in front of Larnach? # of spots for position players will drive decisions……am curious
  4. Ober is only off WC roster…..he’s Game 1 starter in 2nd series if they win first series in 3 games. He’ll be around if they advance.
  5. Don’t see Stevenson on a 14 bat roster……unless Buxton cannot go. If they have 15 bats, who isn’t rostered as a pitcher? I’m pretty sure Paddack will throw Saturday……if he doesn’t look sharp, they aren’t going to roster him just because he can hit 97-98 on the top end. Ober isn’t rostered since he’s starting Sunday. Who’s in the Pen with 15 bats??? 3 starters Jax-Pagan-Duran-Thielbar-Varland-Maeda -Stewart-Funderburk is what I’d go with.
  6. They’ll stick to every other day. Vazquez to catch Sunday & Jeffers for game 1! Vazquez D keeps him in the line-up - will continue to do so - allowing Jeffers to stay fresh!
  7. MAT is a former Gold Glove center fielder..,…why is this so hard for TD readers to get? He’s played well all year and Buxton has DHed or SAT all year. That’s reality. Why are fans enamored with the possibility of Buxton making a diving catch??? Gold Glove with 100 plus starts this year v. NO starts this year in a best of 3 game series……..no brainer! I too like Byron, but he’s hurt - been hurt - will continue to be hurt. In 7 of previous 8 seasons he’s averaged 76 games per year. That’s for real. No reason to roster him because we miss seeing him play and he might do something cool if he does play. Roster to win the Series ……the guy hasn’t played an inning since August 1 and the Team has been successful. Let’s focus on the guys that can really help! If Buxton is rostered he’s my DH v. LH pitching. He can pinch hit v. LH pitching. That’s it - trusting the coaching staff to roster guys that can contribute!!!
  8. Friday night Eovaldi got rocked…….he’s burned until at least Wednesday. Gray went on the IL Friday and they brought up somebody from AAA. TEXAS is the best match-up at this point since their pitching staff is decimated. Their relievers were already suspect but I think they are down to 2 healthy starters. Eovaldi can’t be right with his health after watching last night. Gray & Scherzer are out! The Rangers are not a great road team either while the Astros are much better on road than at home…..let’s catch them in round 2! If Toronto wins one of two they are in at 90 wins. If Astros win 2 of 2 they are in at 90 wins. If they only win one, they can be caught by Mariners. If Mariners take next 2 from Rangers, I think the Rangers still win the season head to head and advance to playoffs as 3rd WC with 89 wins. They get the Twins in this scenario.
  9. No way they play him in OF…….he’s a better option at DH than Julien v. LH pitching. Gallo has about as good a chance on the roster as I do. Stevenson & Luplow both are ahead of him at this point.
  10. I saw Falvey on MLB Hot Stove 2 days ago and he said that the Team was trying to figure out how to get Byron some At Bats at this point……this after being asked about his probability to be able to play. Seems pinch running & outfield are not only remote but moot with where his health was at as of Wednesday morning. I would definitely like his bat as pinch hitter or DH v. LH pitching instead of Luplow…….if he’s at a health level that promotes .208 Byron, then Luplow makes more practical sense.
  11. It’s better than not having Lewis in the line-up. Julien is not a wonderful 2B but he’s played maybe 75 games there already this year & seems more capable every week. Polanco is adequate at 3B. ………as you stated, we need all 3 bats!
  12. If there ever was a “sell high” guy, Eddie fits the bill. He looks like he thinks he’s Ted Williams at the plate & he’s a rookie. He’s not getting close Ball Four calls off a 3-2 count. He has a good eye……he also strikes out too often, especially looking. I have a problem with the lack of effort getting down the line to first - for a while I thought it was a hamstring or some other leg problem but it’s been going on for a couple months…..why?? To me, his confidence has leaked into arrogance with some success……..hope I’m wrong! Still pulling for him & hope he works out but have to be real. Lee will be on the team somewhere by middle of next year, whether due to an injury or lack of production ahead of him. Have difficulty keeping Polanco into ‘24 with his continual health issues but it makes Eddie expendable with guys coming behind. ALSO, Buxton is untradeable and a probable DH for next 5 years…….really limits Eddie’s future in MN.
  13. The analysis/article from MLB Trade Rumors tells it all. Thanks for diving this up! Headrick - J. Lopez - Floro - Alcala - DeLeon - Moran - Balazovic, plus a couple more guys I can’t remember are all off the roster and over 176 combined innings they had an ERA of 5.50 or so………the nine guys we have rostered now in the Pen combine for 284 innings with an ERA of 2.84 2.84 ERA has to be the best or at least top 3 in the entirety of MLB for a bullpen. It may not all work out in the playoffs but on paper we have as good a bullpen as there is in the game going into next week!
  14. TWINS STARTERS, MOST INNINGS PER START OF ANY STAFF IN MLB IN ‘2023……(at least well into August)……..,period ……...please get off his back……It’s just not accurate. Every manager in the past 30 years has had a quick hook in the playoffs…….biggest reason is because the playoff teams all have 6 or 7 good relievers.
  15. IMO - he needs another pitch like he needs a hole in the head. He’s got 3 PLUS pitches…..more strikes & less wow is what we need to see.
  16. Bullpen game on Saturday & Ober on Sunday. I assume Paddack & Kuechel will get some of the heavier innings Saturday along with Maeda for a couple.
  17. Right now we have 14 position players on the roster……..,Buxton - CC - Lewis all need to be added……who comes off?
  18. That’s viable - not sure if Twins share your 11 pitcher thoughts? We’ll find out. Certainly will have 12 pitchers in the 5 game series. My point is one cannot just say we “need Stevenson” w/o deciding who's spot he’s taking on the roster. Do I realize the pressure a guy like Stevenson can put on the defense/pitcher? Yes. Again, he (Stevenson) has been on the roster for 24 games. He needs to displace somebody that has been with us most of the year……can’t carry an endless bench.
  19. 3 starters…..Core 4 pen……Stewart - Varland - Maeda - (ONE of Funderburk - Paddack - Kuechel)…….who do they take? Would I rather have Funderburk available in a situation or Stevenson or Luplow?
  20. Who sits out if you roster Stevenson? It’s not fantasy baseball - pick somebody and justify that guy being dropped from the roster. You have a probable maximum of 14 position guys…….if they choose Buxton, there is no spot for Stevenson……regardless of his base running prowess. We played 132 games so far this year with him not in the roster. I see his value - no expanded roster in October.
  21. I think Funderburk may be chosen instead of Paddack. Paddack gave up 3 runs in 2 innings - the ONLY 2 innings he’s pitched all year. Maybe room for both of them in short series/WC round but not in other series. In short series they don’t need to roster Ober. Kuechel is a real stretch! Probable Staff……12 guys Pen: Jax - Pagan - Thielbar - Duran - Varland - Funderburk - Stewart - Maeda - Paddack Starters: Lopez - Gray - Ryan
  22. Mo - best of all-time! Tough comparison. Clase in Cleveland was an All-Star - leads AL in saves with 43. He has 10 blown saves!! Duran has as good of stuff as any pitcher I’ve seen over 50 years of watching baseball. Splitter at 98-99 ……..Curve at 89-90…………101-104 fastball. He pitches backwards quite often - seems like he wants to look cool - surprise or fool people. I don’t get it at all! Throw fastball to get ahead - yes, get ahead in count. He throws fantastic breaking or off-speed stuff early in counts - but often they are not strikes. Then he overthrows a couple fastballs, up , & it’s 3-0 or 3-1. Walks a guy and puts himself in a bad spot, scrambling. Start with the fastball middle - middle at 102 and work off of that 0-1 count!!!! Can’t afford not to get ahead.
  23. If they carry Funderburk & Paddack (non-roster Kuechel) that’s 12 pitchers with Ober being non- rostered as well for WC round. 12 pitchers leaves 14 bats…..if Buxton dresses, only room for him…..no Stevenson & no Luplow. Stewart - Paddack create some roster traffic. Maybe they don’t roster Funderburk or Paddack?
  24. Am assuming 12 pitchers for WC round. 14 position players: Lewis - CC - Julien - Kirilloff - Solano - Polanco - Farmer - Vazquez - Jeffers - Buxton - Taylor - Castro - Kepler - Walner If not Buxton, I think, Luplow to have another RH bat against Framber Valdez. Larnach has no shot……Stevenson is a pinch runner - Sac bunt guy……..no roster spot for that in October. V. LH pitcher: Castro in LF - Taylor in CF - Solano at 1B - Farmer at 2B…….Lewis, CC, Jeffers, Buxton at DH or if he’s not rostered, Polanco. This doesn’t leave a spot for Luplow in line-up even if Buxton isn’t rostered. Maybe Stevenson has a shot? In longer series, if we go to 13 pitchers, no room for Buxton nor Luplow nor Stevenson. Kirilloff is 5th, as needed, Outfielder!
