    Anyone surprised that Josh Donaldson was pulled from the Yankees lineup due to hamstring tightness.

    I think you mean batters who are older than him. Looking at the Fort Myers roster, only De Andrade is younger than Oliveras. You and Seth have really put this guy on my radar to watch this year.

    Hey, as if this team doesn't have enough good players, Mike Paredes, who pitched really well last year, was added to the Kernels roster today.

    Two thoughts - Ross and Schobel also play SS. They can pretty much forget about getting playing time there. For a high school draft pick, I don't think Miller has struggled as much as some people are saying. He seems to walk enough that he has a good feel for the strike zone. We need to give the high schoolers a little more time. Now, Cavaco, he was drafted 2 years earlier than Miller, doesn't play defense like him, and has not shown much as a hitter. I can understand giving up on him.

    Minor correction, it's his 2nd start. Kepler will be fine according to radio announcers after the game. He hit in the cage today. Probably won't play because it's a LH starter on Wednesday according to Rocco before the game.

    According to today's transaction list, Frank Nigro (another catcher) got assigned to Wichita. Maybe our hopes of Isola catching 3 days a week aren't going to come to fruition.

    I think the title is correct - the Saints could be special. The biggest way this happens is if the Twins do well and stay healthy. Then, you have Castro, Celestino, Lewis, Kirilloff (on rehab), Henriquez, and Winder all showing up from the Twins direction and guys like Lee and Festa moving up. Even if you don't like some of these guys as major leaguers, they often play really well at AAA.

    Seth, We seem to be missing some pitchers (maybe injured?) from the rosters - Denny Bentley, Mike Paredes, Andrew Cabezas, Zach Neff, Alex Phillips, and Sean Mooney. Bentley, Paredes and Mooney are guys that I think have a chance to do well.

    I love that they are giving Isola a chance to catch more (I'm one that said he can't stick at catcher if he's playing there less than 25% of the games played). In the AFL, he didn't catch much, if at all. It's his only path to the majors IMO. Prato seemed to play more in LF than anywhere else at the end of last year, if I remember correctly.

    Rocco on the pregame show yesterday - "We will reevaluate Bux playing CF in mid-April, possibly the end of April." Sure didn't sound like he's playing CF in Miami, which I had hoped in that warm weather.

    This team is stacked, even with Raya injured. Now we see why Perez and Shuffield get demoted to low A. Not sure who is playing 1B but everywhere else they will be fighting for playing time. Cavaco's last chance to do well or he may be the odd man out as the other guys pass him up. I expect some of these guys to move up to Wichita if they are playing great, as they may need the help.

    Wait until we see the Cedar Rapids final roster. That team is stacked. These guys in Wichita may have only a half a year to show that they are worth keeping or the mid-season call-ups from Cedar Rapids will push them out.

    Perez and Shuffield are the two guys that moved from low A to AAA last year, wherever we needed them. Probably not good news for them as they don't seem to be on any planned path towards the Twins. Cedar Rapids is probably overloaded with our many SS's playing in the infield. The infielders are strong here in Fort Myers with those two plus De Andrade.

    Jake Cave is an A+ in the effort category. The problem is that he is hitting .000 and hasn't hit MLB pitching great for years. Most people are rooting for him but most don't think he stays on the major league roster long.

    If Enlow is in the pen, I like McMahon, Enlow and German. Boyle and Brink are older and maybe they stabilize this pen. Not sure the starters can go enough innings for this team to be as good as last year. But like you said, trading away Hajjar and Povich hurts this team. I do agree with those trades though.

    33 degrees with an 18 mph wind on Thursday for the opener. With an off day on Friday and 45 degrees and a 7 mph wind, let's move that game now...........unless we think we are the hardier group and that can get us a win against the Astros. But, ugh, rough day to be a fan at the game in that weather.

    I'm interested in hearing how Isola and Winkel do at catcher. Isola has the bat and Winkel has the defense. Can either one do well enough on the reverse to make them into major league catchers? That infield has potential but Sabato, Severino and Rucker need to step it up. Lee is the star of the team. Keirsey - I would like to see him step up and be a great outfielder. He has the speed for it. Then, the tough part - hitting consistently. I'm sure Holland and Prato will be out there a lot even though they are listed as IF's. The Rule 5 guys, I don't know what to expect. I think the bullpen will be good. I'm thinking the starting pitching could be a little weaker than last year after Festa. I'm expecting guys like Hidalgo and Nowlin to get moved up at mid season. Of course, if Festa is doing great, he could be moved up to the Saints at that time as well. My future Twins in this group are Lee and Festa.

    No, that is exactly why he is on the roster. Ober is better but they can't have him sitting on the bench for an extended length of time. Sands will eventually pitch when a starter goes out early or there is a serious blowout. If he pitches too many innings, they will then send him down and call up someone else for the long relief role.

    Pagan's leash should be the only short one. Maeda should get better as he pitches more. I would actually give him a long leash. If he has to, he goes to the pen. Mahle should have a long leash and is the most likely for the Twins to get an extension done with.

    Travel day with another road game on Monday - the lineup could be interesting. I'm betting Buxton is on the bench for a planned day off but hope I'm wrong. Jeffers surely will start. Sometimes managers like to get everyone some action in the first series - does that mean Castro starts (would we "rest" Correa" already)? I'm thinking Farmer starts at 2B, Gordon in LF and Larnach DH's. Warm weather in Miami. I would like to see Buxton in CF.

    Radio announcers said he didn't pitch much in the WBC and is still ramping up so they couldn't start him in the first series.

    No, he pitches on Sunday. Louie Varland would be my guess. Good ol' Minnesota boy to pitch in the 35 degree weather. I think Balazovic gets a regular spot in the rotation if his jaw allows it. Sanchez and Dobnak - one may get to start if we are going with a six man, once a week rotation. Otherwise, they are fighting for scraps, probably pitching long relief when a starter gets pulled early.

    My question as well. I did see that 28 was the roster max at AAA that I saw. Seth - thank you for this. And you answered my question on why I haven't seen Helman with any AB's this spring. Bummer for him.

    In this regards, the movie "Bull Durham" hits the nail right on the head. They have these veteran players to help the younger guys. A lot of times they can play great and still not end up getting the call to the majors, and actually getting cut when the next batch of young guys moves up another level. Or, like Soto last year, they get called up for three days and never play, getting DFA'd and clearing waivers and they are right back with the Saints AAA team. These types of players can make great coaches in the future.
