I will have to disagree for the most part. He threw more than 80 pitches, I believe for the first time since his surgery. As would be expected, he probably tired at the end. He left the mound with a 6-0 lead and had 8 K's. Too many pitches for 5 innings, sure. But for him, he is progressing. E-Rod is struggling a bit right now. He does basically three things at the plate, walk, strike out, or hit a home run. He's younger than the other guys so this is stretching him a bit.

Rocco talked about making a move. There isn't anyone left on 40 man roster for position players and there are 40 men on the roster. Polanco????????

Prospect Retrospective: Edouard Julien
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Julien really fits in at the leadoff spot. But with Kirilloff and Polanco on their way back and Buxton probably still at DH, I don't think there is any way he avoids another stop in St. Paul, no matter how well he does. I hope I'm wrong and he does so well at getting on base, that Buxton is forced to play CF so Julien can be the DH against RH's. -
Nice game by Headrick, who did much better starting than relieving. Carlos Luna with a David Festa type game, 5 innings, 10 K's, one hit. It appears he's an older player, so maybe not much of a prospect?? E-Rod has struggled early. Still taking walks and he really has a flare for the dramatic, beating the Yanks in spring training and now with a game ending grand slam. Polanco and Kirilloff were 2 for 6 and Winder pitched a shutout inning in relief (is he a reliever now?) but the rest of the team was dreadful, 1 for 21 hitting and not pitching well either.

JT Chargois to the IL for the Marlins.

I think the postponements messed things up (though they certainly could have fit him in before now so there must be a reason - best guess as he's still very young is that they have an innings cap on him and they might need some of those with the Twins at the end of the year??). The Twins are determined to keep Ober on schedule in the rotation as he is the first man up. Therefore, Ober has pitched twice and SWR finally gets to pitch today.

There was someone on TD that was on the Zebby Matthews bandwagon (wish I could remember and give you credit). Great game for him. Cedar Rapids was pounding the ball. Nice to see Miller hitting great as too many people wanted to give up on him at such a young age. And he is indeed playing SS every day. On the rough side, our guys who might come up to start an emergency game or two from the Saints were mostly terrible. Dobnak is struggling to throw strikes. DeLeon and Sanchez weren't much better. Rodriguez was great today, saving game #2. Many were surprised that Adams is up in Wichita to start the year. He had a very rough time. For Cedar Rapids, it was great just to see Preilipp pitch three innings, as he gave up most of the his runs in the 4th.

Mahle for 7 with Thielbar and Alcala to close it out would be ideal. Thielbar gets the Alvarez/Tucker inning. Even though Duran only threw 3 pitches, he had to warm up twice to do it and teams track that (along with him pitching on Friday). If you don't get 7 from Mahle, you're looking at.....................Pagan.

What Happens when Polanco and Kirilloff Return?
FlyingFinn replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
First, I don't see everyone being healthy all at one time. If they are, what a great problem to have. Kirilloff will be at 1B, Polanco will be at 2B and Larnach will be OF/DH IMO. -
Josh Donaldson to the IL with hamstring issues.

Top Five Twins Bullpen Shuttle Candidates
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Actually, if you are on the 40 man and out of options, you become much less likely to be called up for this 13th pitcher spot. Megill and Ober are better than Sands right now but, since they are better, the Twins want them pitching regularly. Because the Twins think less of Sands, he is the one they put in this 13th spot, who may not pitch for 10 days. If the Twins are willing to DFA you, you can be a prime candidate for this. Dobnak, Deleon, Rodriguez, Sands, Sanchez all fit this bill. All have been DFA'd already (except Sands) and another team didn't claim them. Ober, Winder, Megill, and Headrick would all be claimed if DFA'd IMO and therefore the Twins don't want use up their options. If the Twins need a 40 man roster spot and want to replace pitcher with pitcher, the ones I see as possibilities to be DFA'd are Sands and Balazovic (he has to start pitching better soon).- 11 replies

Twins Minor League Report (4/7): Everyone Gets a Win!
FlyingFinn replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Great games by Varland and Festa. Festa picked up where he left off last year, throwing 97 in the 1st inning. 1 hit allowed, no walks, 8 K's. 51 total pitches of which 43 were strikes! Nice game by Isola as he had 2 hits and played catcher. Balazovic pitched one great inning and then ran into trouble, allowing a triple and a couple walks. Megill bailed him out before allowing the bases loaded the next inning (walks way too many batters) but Stewart bailed him out. 4-0 on the farm. Gotta love that.- 21 replies

Twins Minor League Report (4/7): Everyone Gets a Win!
FlyingFinn replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Happened to listen to the end of the Cedar Rapids game, wow. Better coaching by the Twins minors than the opposition. Tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and 2 strikes on the batter. The Kernels are in the field. Swing and a miss but Charles Mack misses the ball and it goes to the backstop. The runner from third comes home, steps on the plate and apparently joins the batter in celebrating the win. What's the problem? Mack knows. He picks up the ball and fires it to 1st base. That would be a force out since the batter never ran to first base on strike 3. That run does not count. The Kernels win in the 10th 5-4.- 21 replies

Twins 3, Astros 2: Farmer Walks Off the Astros!
FlyingFinn replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some have been complaining about our bench. Solano and Farmer really came through today. Love our pitching. Great game. If Gallo and Kepler are both out tomorrow, we must make a move to put one of them on the IL and get Wallner up here. Our bench can't be that short.- 68 replies

Strong Twins Bench Pressed Into Early Duty
FlyingFinn replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton really blocks Julien right now at DH. And Julien's defense blocks himself elsewhere, an example is the routine error yesterday that cost the Saints a win.- 24 replies

Agreed, to a point. You can't duplicate the game "pressure" or whatever you want to call it. When you fail in practice, it's easy to get the next ten. In a game, you may have lost the game for everyone on the team. A great example is Julien yesterday. Not known for his fielding (which is probably going to keep him from getting called up earlier), he boots a routine grounder with 2 outs in the 9th inning. 4 unearned runs later the Saints have a loss instead of a win. Now, how well does he bounce back from that?

Twins Minor League Report (4/6): Affiliates Get Underway
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Very good starts for Enlow (who indeed is a starter again instead of a reliever) and Nowlin. Julien, Garlick and Wallner all hit well for the Saints. Brooks Lee started well. Cardenas is one of the catchers I am watching and he hit a late game-tying homer among his two hits. Cavaco with the game winner, maybe giving him some confidence. And it was Miller at SS (and leading off) with Salas at 3B for those of us curious where they would play for the Kernels.- 15 replies

Rough day for Twins pitchers on the 40 man roster, Ober and Headrick. Some have also mentioned Laweryson as a possible callup and he had a bad day as well. On the flip side were the hitters - Julien, Garlick and Wallner all with 2 hits. Our catchers, Wolters and Camargo, combined for 6 walks with Camargo going 1 for 2 on SB's. Is he that fast that he is trying to steal two bases in a game?
-
Josh Donaldson pulled from game due to "hamstring tightness." Rortvedt has been hurt most of two years now so the Yankees didn't get a whole lot from that trade and spent a lot of money doing it.
-
Anyone surprised that Josh Donaldson was pulled from the Yankees lineup due to hamstring tightness.
-
I think you mean batters who are older than him. Looking at the Fort Myers roster, only De Andrade is younger than Oliveras. You and Seth have really put this guy on my radar to watch this year.

Hey, as if this team doesn't have enough good players, Mike Paredes, who pitched really well last year, was added to the Kernels roster today.
-
Two thoughts - Ross and Schobel also play SS. They can pretty much forget about getting playing time there. For a high school draft pick, I don't think Miller has struggled as much as some people are saying. He seems to walk enough that he has a good feel for the strike zone. We need to give the high schoolers a little more time. Now, Cavaco, he was drafted 2 years earlier than Miller, doesn't play defense like him, and has not shown much as a hitter. I can understand giving up on him.
