  1. Rocco would have been torn to shreds on TD if he had done that. It's interesting that the tide has turned and now people are posting multiple times that Rocco is letting the starters go too long (Maeda earlier this year). A manager can never win on TD.
  2. The problem comes if Buxton has to play DH a lot. If we still want to play both Julien and Miranda, we are much weaker on defense in several spots unless we still are hanging on to Taylor.
  3. I noticed at least one other game at 2B. Seems like they have him there once per week or so.
  4. Is Olivares hurt? Why would only go one inning? If it was the rain, just postpone him until another game. Lee, Severino and Festa have been the 3 Wind Surge players that I have thought could make the Twins some day. I like Kiersey and am thinking he has enough different tools to be the next one to have a chance. Would love to see him in St. Paul in the middle of the year. The late round pick, Paredes, continues to impress as he did last year.
  5. And pitched well. 4 days rest before Tuesday so he would still be an option. I still think Ober will be player called up.
  6. Gallo makes Gordon expendable when Kirilloff and Farmer come back. Gordon's most important position at the moment is backup CF.
  7. Agreed. Only other option is Balazovic but he has only been going 1 to 2 innings per game. Ober up next week for Maeda due to his injury and a stint on the IL (and hopefully a rehab assignment this time).
  8. Very good night for a lot of our top hitting prospects. And Helmin continues his scorching hitting that he had in his rehab assignment. If the Twins decide to part ways with Gordon, he may be the insurance if we suddenly have a bunch of injuries. Kyle Jones with his second great start in Cedar Rapids. Cossetti watch - 2 for 4 with 2 doubles.
  9. DFA Stewart. Nobody will claim him and he can be back in St. Paul, waiting to do it again like a few guys last year (like Cotton). Maybe's he's not the #1 long man but I don't see him being on the Twins 40 man roster come the end of September. Are the Twins really going to have Headrick sit on the bench for two weeks if nobody has a short start or we are blowing out someone.
  10. Correct. Stewart is the emergency long relief pitcher. This could start the train back and forth from St. Paul. Once Stewart pitches mop up for 4-5 innings in a game, he goes to St. Paul by being DFA'd. Then, Aaron Sanchez or someone similar gets added to the 40 man and does the same thing. Then Rodriguez etc. as we don't want Ober or Varland to be the ones that sit on the Twins bench for two weeks waiting for a short start.
  11. Call Kirilloff up on Wednesday. Trade/release Gordon. Until Farmer returns, I believe (and I think the Twins agree) that Castro is a better backup SS. The Twins will max out Kirilloff's rehab unless someone gets hurt and....................... trade/release Gordon. In no way am I confident of this. But without Kirilloff, Gordon isn't playing much at all.
  12. The Yankees tried to trade Donaldson in the off season but couldn't find anyone to take his contract. It's all about getting out from under that contract and, in that respect, the Twins win the trade as I like where they have spent money on Correa and Lopez. Also, with Donaldson always injured, you never know when he can play or not.
  13. He's got a 5 game hitting streak with 7 hits in those games. What he doesn't have is the extra base hits. I think he's ready to start elevating the ball like last year.
  14. Surprised Noah Miller didn't get player of the day over Helmin just because he's a top prospect and there is often a little bias for a guy at a higher level. Great days by both of them. I think Helmin looks ready to go back to St. Paul. Very good to see Miller hitting so good. Can't get too down on these guys out of high school for a couple years (now I am down on Cavaco as he's had enough time). Catchers in the lower levels have really been hitting as Cardenas was good today.
  15. Balazovic really isn't "ramping up" as far as innings. And he is doing better. Maybe he will be used in the bullpen. With the way Pagan and Moran are pitching, there is an opening here.
  16. Check out his time in St. Paul last year. This is exactly how he pitched. He has good stuff. Just a little more control and the hit he gives up wouldn't hurt, or not as much. Walks kill.
  17. I don't think he is striking out that much. But he is not a guy that you want hitting ground balls all over the place. That is what he is doing rather than elevating the ball. With his lack of speed, this is turning into way too many double plays. Sounds like Farmer is having a bunch of root canals done. Between now and when Farmer is ready we'll see if Miranda can find that power stroke again. Is that spring training shoulder issue affecting his hitting instead of fielding, probably not?
  18. They lost 4-3 on two late unearned runs. Mack is not very good defensively and doesn't play that much. I can see Cossetti going there soon. 2 for 2 last night with 2 walks. What a week! As others have asked - how is his defense? Decent start from Olivares and much better game by Hidalgo. Seems like our minor league teams are having a high number of blown saves this year, 4 more last night plus a loss from the bullpen. Megill is looking terrible so far. Maybe this is where trading away a few pitchers is showing in our lack of depth, as the better pitchers are used as starters.
  19. He's got a few hits. Sometimes veterans are just working on certain things, like they would in spring training, when on these rehab assignments. Not sure if that is the case here though.
  20. If it's a choice between Buxton playing CF or stealing bases, I choose playing CF.
  21. Cossetti has all but wrapped up the hitter of the week with the last two days performance. Rosario, with his 4 for 4 day for the Kernels, gets hitter of the day almost any other day but today. Speaking of the Kernels, that roster shouldn't be losing 6 in a row. Kirilloff looking great with two hits and a stolen base. I'm ready for him to be up with the Twins. We desperately need more hitters like him and Polanco.
  22. Aria, what a great game. One game wonder or do we have something here. Cossetti, a great game as well. A couple interesting notes - Olivar, a catcher, plays CF, wow. And Balazovic throws 16 strikes in 22 pitches. Like to hear that.
