VIDEO: How Much Money Do The Twins Have To Spend?
Old fox replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This ownership group is hard to follow. I think how long the lock out goes will determine the market pricing of players. A full season 162 game schedule versus a 150, 140, 130, 120, 81, 60 or no games in the 2022 season will have some effect on prices paid for players especially in 2022. This type of ownership philosophy will NOT benefit the game of baseball, players, owners & fans. I would like to see the lockout end quickly. But if the lockout goes beyond the start of spring training or the start of the 22 season, then, “nobody” knows what the solution will be. I understand the complexity of the issues, however, little or no communication will not solve the situation either. I don’t think if the owners and/or players piss off the fans will work either. The fans are not the source of the problem but fans will influence the results of the lockout decision of the owners and players. -
Part 4: Seth's Top 30 Twins Hitting Prospects (11-15)
Old fox replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am very high on Wallner &E-Strand. I have seen E-Strand play several games and he could play the game &improve at the same time. Wallner seems to be bringing it all together. The other 3 will need to make adjustments more quickly or be left in the dust but maturity may help them too. The most important thing to me is they all don’t play the same position, the difference in age of the group.- 10 replies

New CBA - What's good for the game
Old fox replied to Major League Ready's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I love baseball as much as anyone else but I have some questions that I certainly don’t have the answers to. (1) has mlb over saturated the totality of the market? (2) Would baseball survive without its exemption of “favored son status “ granted by the people and our gov? (3) Does the fan base of baseball promote poor management skills practiced by ownership? (4) Or should the bad ownership have to face the consequences for poor & wasteful practices, marketability, planning, management skills (5) Who are the owners accountable to? Who governs the owners or are they self governed? What is the average tenure time (life expectancy of owners) before selling their team? The status of the current situation of baseball is the result of ownership management skills and decisions or lack of management skills. Naturally, ownership is going to blame the players for the beer and brats going up in price to the fans. -
What Will the Twins do with Miguel Sanó?
Old fox replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sano’ value is tied to being a 1 tool player and a questionable attitude. Because he shows little interest about controlling his weight. Too date he hasn’t responded to desires of the Twins and therefore why keep him. Sano’ may need trade therapy too get his attention. -
Grading the Twins 2021 Rookie Debuts

That’s why we play the game and I am proud of these players. They gave it their very best and learned a great deal and will make adjustments. That’s why the game is played.- 40 replies

The Rays system will not work for every ownership group in mlb. Because every ownership group has their own style on how to operate an organization. It’s the culture of their organization. The current dictates of baseball are what caused St. Louis to hire a 100 more back room employees so they remain competitive on the field. I raise my hat to St. Louis for hiring a 100 more employees. The old shoe box system of many years past will not return a profit in these times of complicated competition. In many ways the Rays maybe ahead of the rest of of MLB. It’s not the Rays who are holding back MLB product. It’s the sum of the weaknesses of all MLB owners that’s holding back baseba

I admire the Rays system because it’s driven from ownership to the batboy. They understand how their system works and they embrace the system. Their system maximizes and understands maximum efficiency, marketing at the point near maximum value of their players. They understand the tenure of shelf life (time) of players. It’s away of generating revenue for the ball club because their financial support from the community doesn’t generate enough revenue dollars to survive. They understand the theory of young aspiring players will generate value while over the hill old players with depleting skills will generally decrease in value. The important thing is they got a plan, and they stick to it and thrive in it.

Falvine still on pace with their plan... whatever that may be.
Old fox replied to Doc Munson's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The Twins have and most likely will continue to develop their own pitching because that’s what ownership wants. The cupboard of pitching prospects was depleted when Falvey & Lavine arrived because poor pitching draft selection. When the Twins decided to draft power hitting only tool draftees. The Twins are paying for their poor drafts of previous 10 yrs. before the current F came in. I agree agree that. 22 should see the. Twin’s reap the benefits of the new prospects. But the Twins will need to trade for a couple of bridge starting pitchers such as Bassitt and Manaea from the “A” or S. Gray from the Reds & maybe re-sign Pineda that have a future for 1-3 yrs. Since ownership is always bitching about money and high priced pitching any two of four will cost about $18-20m. The Twins could move some of their sacred players maybe at discount prices. The Twins need to get rid of their 1 tool players such as Sano’. -

The Twins Need to Spend…On This Bat?
Old fox replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I feel the Twins are in a good position to make a multiple player trade with the “A’s” including prospects & established players. Such a trade would address pitching, relief pitching & improve 3b. This trade affecting co- internal Twins positions. The Twins trade; Arraez, Larnach, Dubnak, Cavaco, Vallimont to the “A’s” for Bassitt, Manaea, Chapman, Kaprailain rrp, either Pisscoty or Andrus. Twins internal position changes; Kirilloff to Lf, Donaldson to 1b, san’o to dh. This trade according to “mlb trade values” would be near equal value for both teams.- 20 replies

The Twins are in a tough position because does the current Twins player have more value to keep as aTwin or does the “trade for” player have more value. Further “MLB player evaluation organizations” have placed higher trade values on players the Twins may be considering trading. The most important fact do the idealistic views match up in the seller and buyer

VIDEO: Twins Have A Decision To Make On José Miranda
Old fox replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The stats indicate Miranda has earned this opportunity in 2022. I believe prospects are just like baking cimamon rolls. if baked not long enough they are Dougherty and if the baker isn’t paying attention and burns the rolls, then, the rolls aren’t good and lose value quickly. It’s a very delicate situation. -
Here's Why the Twins Haven't Gone Hard After Pitching
Old fox replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very nicely written and thought out. I think the availability of Miami young pitchers poses too much risk because of a history of injuries acept Alcantara & Rogers. Why is $10m salary the going thing for a weak FA pitcher and in the trading market $10m is so much? The trading market player has equal or better to peripherals health, age, live game stats. When did a 1 year FA contract become better than a 1 year trade contract? The time line of the Twins with the potential in the farm system allows me to think that trading for Bassitt, Montas, Manaea from the “A” or S. Gray from the Reds fit well and much more reasonably priced. According to “MLB Trade Values”. Arraez & Larnach may be “over pay” but could work as trade for Babbitt RSP and Manaea lsp and a relief pitcher. I may even consider a salary dump of Sano’ for Andrés ss this trade would save Twins $2m and attempt to short term ss.- 94 replies

The Twins and their of sick bay. It doesn’t matter if you waste money at a rate $1m times 25 = $25m or waste money at a rate of $5m times 5 = $25m or $25m times 1 = $25m all for the same set time. In the end it’s the production that counts.

Revisiting the Twins 2018 Top Prospects
Old fox commented on cjm0926's blog entry in cjm0926's Blogs
A good trade is who you get back and if the player preforms above expectations. I prefer to keep Jeffers, Rortvedt then Garver because he can play 1b or DH. Physically catcher is hell on the body. -
It looks like the dog is chasing his tail again for the Twins again. Or are the Pohlads taking a lot cash out of the Twins and selling the Twins? The Twins sure didn’t learn any about what happened in 2021. However. If the lockout isn’t solved it won’t matter. I was under the impression that ownership couldn’t have communication with each other during the lockout?

There are only 4 medians of currency in baseball (1) cash, (2) trading active mlb player (3) prospects, (4) any combination of above three for new players. Where the buyer and seller agree on a price is the pure market. If the buyer’s offer isn’t acceptable to the seller then no market is established. Two things seem to happen to the Twins (1) they under value the players they try to obtain, (2) they overvalue as sellers the player there trying to trade to. This seems to indicate that ownership or management isn’t currently aware of the market current values. Ownership is involved in the final decision. Mr. St. Peter is married into Pohlad family. I view him as being on both sides of ownership & management teams. Therefore, Falvey & Lavine being 2nd & 3rd in command on the management team really serve at the wills of ownership including Mr. St. Peter. In bank jargon the F O has “credit Limits” of certain value. Anything over the “credit limit” must be acted on by ownership before the transaction can become official. Apparently doesn’t want to increase the credit limits of Falvey & Lavine.

Closer or no closer, that is the question!
Old fox replied to wsnydes's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
It depends on the type of team, type of rotation whether short outing 5 & less innings. Or 6 or 7 innings or longer. A general rule if a weak rotation then requires a strong bullpen and strong rotation may get by with weaker bullpen. Bullpen’s gained popularity in the last 20 years because of cheaper costs but in the last 3 years prices have increased greatly. -
I to am relatively satisfied with their effort. I’ve been satisfied with the overall improvement of the team (1) prospects have improved its good to see the move from position to pitching effort. (2) FA model has had success & failures which is normal. (3)The trading model is good. (4)The stat department has been improved greatly. (5) The decision making process may have to be tinkered with as to arriving sooner to making moves. But this maybe the result of the ownership’s model which the management team has to operate within. (6) the turning over of valuable assets is ok as to gaining production from new longer term assets, but it would be nice to see an amount of immediate production from new assets. These are expensive, minor verses major league assets. Overall grade B-. That isn’t bad for a rookie management team.

If the Twins want to trade Josh Donaldson, where does he go?
Old fox replied to John Bonnes's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The Twins may have to eat $10-15m of his salary to move him. Maybe move Kirilloff to lf, move Donaldson to 1b, move San’o to DH. San’o is a FA this fall. The trade dead-line (if there is one) may create a better market for Donaldson. If the National League goes with DH may help create a better market for both Donaldson & San’o. We can hope. -
You want to trade Lewis with out giving him a chance to prove himself? Is wrong! He needs to be given a chance to prove himself at the mlb level orAAA. I am willing to trade anyone providing the return is more than adequate. The market place would most likely soft on Lewis because of the uncertainty about him and most teams that need ss have fixed their need for a ss. Those teams who will be in need of a ss in 23 and beyond have similar prospects as Lewis. Let’s exercise patience with Lewis. If Lewis has to be traded then to the Marlins for Alcantara or T. Rogers.

So, the Yankees tried to acquire Simmons at the deadline
Old fox replied to Original_JB's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
There seems to be a lot of grouches about the signing of Simmons last spring. He wasn’t brought to the Twins for his bat but for his defense at ss and he did a very good job. This move also helped out at 2b by moving Polanco there. Simmons saved more games than Sano’s homers did. Simmons errors didn’t lose as many games as Sano’s strike outs. There isn’t that many points difference between Simmons and Sano’s batting averages. What difference does it make if the Yanks made inquiry about Simmons availability or not? The Twins did play a better game of baseball the last half of season 21. It almost appears that Jeter would not have satisfied anyone in Twins land.
