  1. Thanks Seth When do the minor league spring training games start?
  2. I would go with the A- . The move I do not like is Homer Bailey for 9 Million. At the time the money seemed OK but I am not sure he will help that much. The Clippard signing for 3 million is excellent. He is better against lefties than righties and we do not have a second lefty reliever. He can fill that role as a righty. Chacin is a good move because a minor league signing. If he is done he will not cost anything. Wisler worth a shot- low cost. I am a big fan of the Maeda trade. We usually hang on to our prospects too long. The thing I like best about the Donaldson signing is we finally made a decisive move for a big ticket free agent. Will the end of that contract be good for the Twins. Very few long term big money signings are good deals the last year or two, The decision I am interested in following is it seems the FO decided to go for Donaldson instead of RYU. That seemed like a pitcher we could have signed but we opted for Donaldson. I am very excited about this upcoming season and the forseeable future. It must be about spring time.
  3. I have been going down each year the last seven years. It is a great break from the winter. Thanks for the write up. Where is the minor league office? It would be nice to get the scheduled activities each day. I have just been asking people. Usually minor league players as they walk by.
  4. I hope Graterol does great for the Dodgers. The process had to be hard on him but he landed in a way better spot. LA needs bullpen help for a roster that is 3-1 to win the World Series. Boston was going to try and make him a starter and he would have always been the guy traded for Mookie. LA does not need him to be a starter. They also do not need him to be great to win the trade. He will probably be pitching in the World Series later this year and I hope some announcer mentions this is the guy Boston could have had for Mookie Betts.
  5. Some have mentioned they do not like selling the compensation round pick. Fangraph's valued last years 67th pick at 4.1 million. We get 10 million for this years. For me it matters what happens to the 10 million if I like this or not. Obviously we didn't need that to make current payroll as it was not a part of the first trade. But if we need that to make a deal at the trade deadline then I am fine with it. If it is going to the bottom line then not so much.
  6. The part that has bothered me is they do not like Graterol's medicals then you would think they do not want him. But it sounds like they want Graterol AND someone else. If they do not like Graterol's medicals why not just substitute a different prospect. But they want to keep Graterol and get someone else.
  7. These are quotes from MLB trade rumors report on Berrios salary arbitration case- " The Twins, like other clubs that have drawn a hard line in comparable situations, surely care less about immediate cost savings than they do about preserving the standards that allow arbitration salaries to remain so manageable. "If the Twins (and every other club) simply conceded and met the player in the middle, those contractual agreements would be used as data points in future arbitration" From the Berrios side- "it’s surely no coincidence that the number he filed would’ve bested the aforementioned Willis benchmark — even if only by a narrow margin of $50,000. Again, every slight step forward would factor into future negotiations for other first-time-eligible pitchers. " Twins 1964 at least move me over from left field to centerfield. I agree with Seth's comment.
  8. Probably the players union wanting Berrios to push his case and the owners wanting to hold the current standard as much as Berrios vs Twins.
  9. Maybe redo the deal and keep Graterol. Substitute a different prospect or two
  10. Thanks for the write-up. I do like this trade. We needed another starting pitcher and we got one. Time will tell if we gave up too much. Having Cruz and Donaldson together with the young core I like getting a strating pitcher that will help this year.
  11. I really like the 4 year part of this deal. We now have Kepler, Polanco, Garver, Sano, Donaldson, Arreaz, Maeda signed or controlled for 4 years. Starting to extend our window as it has opened. Do we still need the ace? Yup. Having Maeda locked in at a lower rate may help leave the financial flexibility when the right one becomes attainable. I think it is a fair trade. Fits what both teams are trying to do.
  12. Pretty good balance with Kepler, Arraez, Rosario all left handed. Polanco has more power left handed. Back ups are Avila, Cave left handed and Adrianza, Gonzales switch hitters. IMHO roster well balanced.
  13. This is a good signing. Whether it works or not will depend on which Chacin we get. Hopefully he just had trouble with the juiced ball last year
  14. I think that today's Pittsburgh trade is interesting in that they traded Marte for two talented 19 year olds. To me that suggests they are in core rebuild mode not looking for major league ready talent. They may be more interested in a Cavaco, Celestino, Immanuel Rodriguez type in a trade also. I can't imagine they have much interest in Cave unless it would be to save payroll the next couple of years. But I do like the idea of trading with Pittsburgh for pitching. Get them on the phone and see what they are interested in.
  15. I have always liked Chacin, Not sure why he was so bad last year. That is who I would try
  16. This became a bigger issue when Mauer retired. He was an under rated defensive first baseman. Really good with throws in the dirt. It seems to me that Polanco does not set his feet even when he has time. Throws on the run and that hurts his accuracy.
  17. I thought there was a prospect that was the MVP of the Arizona fall league that can play shortstop. It might be a year early but that is where I would go if Polanco is out for a long time. Short term Adrianza is fine.
  18. I think Rosario played hurt most of last year. He was not even making his over aggressive base running mistakes. He was not playing defense nearly as well as he had. He was still hitting so he continued to play through it. I think this year if healthy he goes back to .290 Average with .320 OBP with his usual power. I think a healthy Eddie is well worth 10 million. Comparing him to Trevor Plouffe is a low blow.
  19. I think you are right in that Rocco will mix the left handed hitters between the right handed. Especially with the three batter rule for the relief pitchers. I expect to see Kepler batting leadoff versus the right handers. I think they like starting 1-0
  20. For now I expect a minor league signing of a vetran bounceback starter. Drew Smyly type. I do not expect a major trade right now. But I did not expect the Twins to sign Donaldson either.
  21. Who is your prediction for the late bloomer this year?
  22. I don't think the Twins lose their competetive balance pick. I think those are protected. It should be their third round pick. Nice to get the Competetive balance pick to balance out the one that is lost.
  23. They said they were going after "impact pitching" . They did not say positive or negative impact
  24. Sano Available - 10 Commitment -8 Prospect Cost-10 Offensive Impact -7 Defensive Impact - 2 Total -37 Almost same score as Donaldson
  25. I like this idea better than moving Kepler there as some have suggested. Kepler is too valuable as a defender in the outfield. Rosario played second base for awhile in the minors so he has played some infield.
