  1. I think we will only compete for championships if we can develop our own starting pitching like Cleveland does. Signing one free agent starter would not have made the Twins a world series winner. I think you are correct we need to start playing the rookies.
  2. We now have eight starters. Or at least parts of eight starters. This is a minimum requirement. The Twins are still in a good position to trade but not desperate. They can absorb a contract and still have plenty of prospects to trade if they find a deal to their liking. I think this is OK and the Twins are better positioned today than yesterday. But all I can think of is that commercial about when is just OK not good enough. The one where the patient asks the nurse about the doctor and she says he's OK.
  3. I rate it a 7 so far. They only thing keeping it down is a starting pitching acquisition. Bullpen and 2nd catcher acquisitions are excellent. Upgrading from what Gibson and Perez provided last year should be easy to do since we still have our prospects and 20-30 million to spend. If we can't land Donaldson (which I doubt) we can still replace Cron with a Mitch Moreland or Todd Frazier signing. That would leave plenty of money to take on salary in a trade for pitching. Have to get creative
  4. Polanco has value with his extension. Why not trade him in a Story/Gray trade. Story would give Lewis two years to be ready. Story and Gray would give us a chance to contend the next two years. There would have to be more attached to Polanco to even up the trade but I think the Rockies would love to have that contract and a shortsop if they trade Story.
  5. I agree with most of this. I think Celestino will be in CF. Garver DH. No Sano or Buxton. Roveldt - C Thanks for the article
  6. Deepest bullpen I can ever remember the Twins having. When you look at the acquisition costs either $'s or in trades it makes it more impressive. Very well done by the front office. I am pretty sure Wade Davis makes as much as our bullpen. If you add in one of the overpaid set-up guys I am sure it is more.
  7. I am beginning to feel the same way about Arizona. They added Bumgarner they may just keep Ray and try to make the playoffs.
  8. I like the idea of still acquiring two starters as I think that would help the bullpen also. Thorpe or Smeltzer could be helpful from the bullpen.
  9. All depends on the prospect cost but definitely worth checking into. I always felt Archer was a bit overrated but now he is at a low point and we need two more starters.

    Rule V mania

The only teams that the rule 5 seems to make sense for are the teams that are tanking. If your trying to win it is what Dman said.
  11. I wonder what the average wRC+ is for a back up catcher? I have no idea but I am going to guess 76 is not that far off. He HAS to start swinging at strikes. Hopefully he can adjust because watching baseball is more fun when he is playing.
  12. The only player that is off the board that I was hoping for is Wheeler. We were not getting Cole, Strasberg, Rendon so the fact that they signed means little to me. We are not getting Donaldson. I think the Twins will try and sign one of Bumgartner, Ryu or Keuchel and if they fail they try and trade. They are still in position to have a good off season. I am not going to the bridge yet. It is only December and ONE guy signed that we wanted and he received $20 million more than anyone projected, The White Sox outbid the Phillies and did not get him. At that point I think they did the right thing to pass. We are not one player away like the Yankees.
  13. I like Urena the best of Miami starters but that would not be worth Rosario so not sure how to match up on this trade.
  14. It almost feels like a free roll. They should try one for sure.
  15. I agree with PDX Twin. Overpaying to win this year will only cost us opportunity down the road. The window is open but with our minor league system being so strong it is not this year or bust. The window is open for a long time. We were not one pitcher away from beating the Yankees last year. Both our hitters and our pitchers were overmatched. We will only be able to win play off series when we can develop our own pitching. When that is in place and it looks like it could be in the next couple years. That is when it will be time to overpay for that last piece like the Cubs did. Not this year.
  16. I like this deal. They replaced Castro for slightly over $4 million a year. I also like the timing as now the Twins have filled some needs- two starters and the platoon catcher. They know those costs as they are bidding on higher priced free agents.
  17. Love it Seth as long as we add 2 other starting pitchers either through free agency or trade. I hope we do not leave the 5th spot open for Dobnek, Thorpe, Smeltzer or Graterol. They will get thier chances as starters may be ineffective or hurt. You need at least eight possible starters.
  18. There was mention on MLB trade rumors that the Orioles were working on trading Dylan Bundy. Do you think the Twins are interested? What do you think it would take to trade for Caleb Smith?
  19. Have to be working on trades. Too many corner OF/IB types. Nice position to be in to be able to trade from a surplus. Can't remember our last real surplus.
  20. I like the idea of trying to trade for Gray. Brandon posted pretty close to what I was thinking but I was leaning toward McGee since he is left handed and we could use another lefty in the bullpen.
  21. What about Garver ? Too risky because he is a catcher?
  22. I hope they don't replace Rosario with anyone from this list.
  23. A trade makes a lot of sense. Not sure we have openings for all of our prospects. I am a Jon Gray fan. He has very good stuff and can get strikeouts. Get him out of Coors field and see what happens.
  24. Rosario may not bring the type of pitching that we need. You cited the 103 WRC and the $9 million contract. Not sure there is enough excess value there. I would explore a trade of an outfielder for pitching. It may have to be one of the prospects. MLB trade rumors mentioned Colorado may be looking at trading Story or Jon Gray as they are in a payroll bind. They would probably want the prospect outfielder. Gray may do better away from Coors.
  25. Pretty exciting that the lineup you laid out is already signed or under control. I think 7 of those 9 are controlled for the 2021 season. I am with you on moving Rosario out of the clean up spot. Not sure that Rocco is
