  1. Maybe they are waiting on the price to drop on a couple more pitchers. If that does not happen and this is it then we do not have enough pitching. They still have money they could spend so they may not be done. I still think we have to wait until they are done before we can judge if going through the discard pile was the right approach. They have filled some holes and have not spent all their money. Hopefully the best is yet to come.
  2. I am ok with this also. Twins need more pitching depth. Other than last year when he was shut down twice with injuries he has been league average or close. He has pitched in Texas which was by Espn park factors the worst for pitchers last year. This should mean that we have a left handed starter either Perez or Mejia and the other is headed to the bullpen where league average pitchers are sorely need. I would like it better if it was a minor league deal but probably nit picking. There are a few more players we can lose off the 40 man. Now sign or trade for a closer
  3. I have been hoping for more upgrades in the bullpen and I think Allen is worth taking a chance on. His worst season last year was 5 blown saves. Didn't we blow about 25 as a team last year. I am not worried about blocking marginal major league relievers. If they could not contribute last year when there was plenty of opportunity and need I would make them earn their innings. I hope they sign a closer and an additional starter and reliever on minor league contracts.
  4. I think the Twins are in a perfect spot to take a chance on one of these guys. Mejia could go to the bullpen for awhile and help there while keeping his innings lower. Give the flyer a chance to prove if he has anything left and if not then Mejia is the fifth starter. Low risk move that the front office seems to like. I would be surprised if it did not happen. And I think it should. Buchholz stands out on this list. I am thinking he may get a major league deal with a lower guarantee and incentives for games or innings.
  5. I have been hoping for Holland. He was better than Herrara and Wade Davis in Kansas City. His numbers in St. Louis were horrible but after his trade to Washington he pitched much better. If you look at the other pitchers that signed late and had a short spring training Lynn and Cobb they had similar performances. If we are waiting on Sano and Buxton (which I don't agree with) then may as well sign Holland. See if he can rebound and either help us or be a trade deadline piece. I would sign both Allen and Holland and hope at least one rebounds. We have room in the bullpen for both, Todays signing seems more like a bullpen depth move.
  6. Does Torreyes take a 40 man roster spot? It says he signed a split contract?
  7. How about trading for Sonny Gray. His numbers away from New York are solid and sounds like Yankees are going to trade him. Seems like a good buy low guy
  8. Thanks Tom for the recaps. Love the updates
  9. Buxton turned down an extension that would have ended the service time issues. Then he is mad because the Twins are playing service time games in a lost season. Not very realistic
  10. I am tired of the criticism of the Twin FO about how Buxton was treated. He was offered an extension last offseason that he turned down. The extension certainly would have paid him more money for next year and would have eliminated the service time considerations. Buxton made a business decision and turned it down. He got hurt and had a lousy season and now we should INCREASE his raise for next year. That is not how it should work. They should work out the long term extension this year. If he is not interested no extra unearned raise for turning it down.
  11. Wasn't Buxton offered an extension last off season? If I remember correctly he turned in down. He made a business decision. Now the Twins are making a business decision. The real problem here is the labor agreement. It is keeping Buxton, Vlad Jr, Eloy Jimenez out of baseball right now. As a baseball fan - I hate that The Twins and their young players should figure out fair extension and quit the service time shuffle
  12. Hopefully we learned something by doing Hughes extension too early
  13. The bullpen and the rotation is better than last year. The front office does not like the prices on ace pitchers and we are not one player away. If we stay in the playoff race they may be willing to pay the price at the trade deadline. I like what they have done so far and they are still in position to do more.
  14. This will not be popular but I would be fine with Tillman and Vargas. Only 3 teams used 8 starters last year. Everyone else used more. The average was slightly over 11. I do not see Cobb or Lynn as enough of an upgrade. I would improve our pitching depth and see what the Twins situation is around the trade deadline. We needed Darvish but that ship has sailed. I hope we are not chasing Arrieta.
  15. I thought this before Santana got hurt. What is the worst that could happen? Everyone is healthy and pitching well then we have to use Mejia's option. I agree with your sign two to major league AND a flyer on a minor league contract. I think Falvine did fine with the bullpen. Hopefully they do as well with the rotation.
  16. I think we need to sign two starters. Mejia has an option left. If everyone is healthy and pitching well send him to Rochester. If $5 million plus incentives gets Tillman I am all for it. But sign someone else also. Who is this years Charlie Morton?
  17. I would explore the trade market. Check in on Domingo Santana, Nick Castellanos and Matt Kemp. All poor fielders but right handed hitters with power. All are available. Don't think the price would be that high.
  18. Thanks for the article and I always root for every player to get their chance at the majors but I have yet to make sense of this move. After we signed three relievers and appear to be trying to win this year I doubt he has much of a chance to see Target field without buying a ticket.
  19. We needed three bullpen arms. I am glad we have all three. I think we are positioned well for a starter also. Say the Yankees sign Darvish and the Cubs sign Arrieta. There is still Cobb and Lynn and fewer bidders. Why not sign two starters and use Mejia's minor league option until he is needed. He is not a great starter but would be great minor league depth. I am still rooting for Darvish but Twins will be OK either way.
  20. I would start with Boshers or Kinley. Boshers is 30 years old and will at best be the last man out of someone's bullpen Kinley's chances of making this bullpen have decreased greatly since we have signed three releivers. Boshers now and Kinley when we sign Darvish
  21. What about the reported 7 year 160 Million offer from the Yankees? True or False Seem like about what it would take to sign him. I thought it would be around $150 million
  22. Have we ever made a good trade with Tampa? Hope we don't over pay for Odorizzi. I do not feel he would be a difference maker.
