  1. Enjoyed the article. Agree 100%. I think it is important to do this year so you can evaluate the next manager. If you pick the wrong guy it does not cost you next year. When all that talent you mentioned is major league ready and you still have the wrong guy you will be wasting your window of opportunity.
  2. I enjoyed the analysis. The only move I would not be in favor of is signing a left fielder with the idea of trading him later. Schafer has earned a chance at a regular spot. Not sure he will keep it. Hicks does look different. Looks like the game is slowing down for him. I am not sure if Arcia will ever figure it out but he is still young. If Sano comes up Plouffe may be looking for playing time. Try him at a corner spot. Maybe, maybe maybe Buxton stays healthy and comes up. If Twins were a contender I would agree that they sorely need a proven corner outfielder. But next year I would still develope.
  3. It may have been a blessing for the bullpen also. Burdi got the final 7 outs on last time he pitched. Were you suprised he was asked to get that many this late in the season?
  4. I wouldn't even pursue a left fielder that hard. I could see Plouffe, Santana, Hicks all looking for playing time. They should still pursue another starting pitcher. A very good one. We don't need quantity but could use quality.
  5. Seems like he threw more curveballs. Had a very good one tonight. Hopefully we see more of this Nolasco. He pitched great.
  6. I would keep Plouffe. Everyone thinks Sano will be a great major league hitter but until he proves that we need to keep Plouffe. There are still questions about Sano being able to play 3B in the majors. If ALL our prospects make it I could still see a role for Plouffe as a possible platoon partner with Arcia, bench bat, fill in for Mauer when he misses his 40 games, may even be a late inning defensive replacement for Sano.
  7. I would try and find a team with two good defensive catchers that is looking to trade. I would trade Pinto for a catcher that could catch. No to Mauer or Pinto moving to LF. We need outfielders that have some range and can defend. We have too many DH's already. Arcia plays OF like a DH. Santana has no position. Pinto seems to me to not have a role on this team. I think a trade is in everyone's best interest.
  8. Thanks for the Kepler update. With all his injuries he had kinda fallen off the radar. Good to hear he may be turning the corner.
  9. I enjoy your reports. I tape all the games and watch them without the commercials. I love the way Hughes keeps a quick pace. Part of the reason he has a lot of fouls is that he is around the plate a lot. He refuses to walk people. A few AB's every game where the hitter can't put the fastball on the black in play and Hughes just keep throwing it.
  10. We finally have options worth discussing. Kinda exciting. Much better than complaining about Butera and Correia. Small sample size but I have also been impressed with Schafer and if he could just raise his average a bit could make an excellent 4th OF. His base stealing is impressive. He has made three catches in left field that I have made the same comment on. No way Willingham gets to that ball, I can see the light on the position players - Pitching staff still fuzzy.
  11. Do you know where I can find the probable starters for Cedar Rapids for next week? I am thinking road trip. Thanks
  12. I have never been an Eades fan. Seen him pitch three times. My guy that I would have higher is Vielma. Good fielding true shortstops are valuable. Thanks for the list. Enjoyed going past the top 10 or so. Don't hear as much about the others and there is a lot of talent in the second 25.
  13. Even if Santana is moved back to shorstop it is good that he has played CF. When Sano comes up I would like to see Plouffe and Arcia platoon in one of the corner OF spots. Arcia can't hit lefties and Plouffe hits them well. Use Escobar at utility he can back up 2b,SS and 3B. Santana plays short and eliminates the need for the 4th outfielder to have to be able to play CF. Santana could be the back up CF and Escobar play SS when needed.
  14. Is he good defensively? Adding another fly ball pitcher one good defensive outfielder would help. Speed to pinch run for Willingham late in games. Could be useful.
  15. I hope you are right but what I really want to know is where I can get some of what you are smoking?
  16. Very interesting. Thanks for the post. It is high stakes lottery.
  17. I vote for Redmond. He does very well with young players. His young pitchers seem to do well. Uses his roster well. He is young enough for the rebuild and a long run of success.
  18. They should send him to Triple A. They already have to find AB's for Parmalee. Fryer is reportedly a good defensive catcher. I feel that it is more likely that a back up catcher that is good defensively is more likely to help you consistently than a good hitting back up catcher because of the inconsistent AB's

    DedunoSpeak (tv)

Deduno is different. He is entertaining. Glad he took Pelfrey's spot
  20. 94 this early in camp from Gibson sounds like he came ready to win a spot. Appreciate the recap and the picture. I was wondering what number Buxton would switch to. I heard 7 was taken.
  21. I am thinking Willigham. Seatle was talking to and close to signing Nelso Cruz. The talks didn't progress as they may need their resources for pitching. We should offer Willingham and even put some money in for the right shortstop prospect.
  22. Thanks for putting this together. I am going down March 11th. The last time I was at the Twins spring training game I was looking forward to seeing Rod Carew hit. He bunted his first time up and left the game after that AB. They were playing Montreal. Montreal had just moved Gary Carter to catcher. He had three passed balls and cost them the game. So I think I need an updated guide.
  23. Drew offensive numbers have been achieved at two of the better hitting parks in the majors. Fenway and Arizona. He will not hit that well in Target field. You will be paying for last years numbers and be receiving target field results. Same as Hardy. While I think that Drew is better than Florimon I would rather they sign another pitcher with the money.
  24. Thanks for the breakdown. I am glad you made the point that there is room on the staff for any pitcher that is out of options. I believe that by signing three starting pitchers they have also inproved the bullpen by increasing the competition and hopefully the new starters throw more innings. I do think some of the bullpen numbers would improve if their innings went down. I don't recall losing many games when we had a lead in the late innings. The bullpen was fine and should be better this year.
  25. The other factor that I believe is playing a role in the Twins spending money is that their minor league talent is all a year closer. Last year there was money available but I don't think that Ryan thought he was going to get much help from the minors. This year I would not be suprised if Sano, Meyer and Buxton all were in Minnesota by summer's end. Fill in one or two more holes and this could be a solid, fun team to watch. I enjoyed your article.
