  1. I went to the triple A all star game. Beresford hit the ball hard twice. If the wind wasn't blowing across from right his ball would have gotten out. Would have been his first of the year. That being said the ball should have been caught. The right fielder Peter O'Brien looked very good at the plate but he needs to be a DH. Made another error later in the game that they did call an error. Rogers changes speeds well as he pitched between 74-88 mph. Does not seem to me to have the stuff for a MLB starter. He does remind me of Mark Buerhle so that would be very good if he can have half his success. Achter got my wife's favorite player Cheslor (first name) to pop out and win me a side bet so I have a new favorite minor league reliever- Achter.
  2. This outfield is improving by the month which is a good thing. Hopefully Kepler will be ready by the start of next year. He could play right with Buxton and Rosario. Hicks the 4th outfielder. I would not move Mauer to any spot other than DH. Too late in his career.
  3. Enjoyed the post. I would add Sano to the DH list. I could see him being called up in another month. The Santana suspension could end up being a blessing in disguise. Not only will he be a fresh mid season arm the Twins saved 8 million in payroll that can be used to acquire a player if needed. How much do you think Soriano will get. He just fired Boras so must be wanting to sign somewhere.
  4. I was down at Fort Myers for a week and was not impressed by Meyer either. I also saw good swings at his fastball so even though he has the velocity I question how much movement he is getting. I did get to see Sano. The home run he hit off Gerrit Cole was very impressive. Can't wait for to arrive.
  5. That is who I thought would get a look. Some of the high velocity relief pitchers.
  6. The salary commitment for the next 4 years should not be too big of a burden since the future additions should come from the farm system. You rarely get a good financial deal when you add a free agent. Just by definition you have to pay more money than any other team would. So most likely more than he is worth. But I am encouraged by the Twins willingness to add what they soooo needed. A major league starting pitcher.
  7. Since we hired a minor league pitching coach I wonder if he has a player he likes.
  8. I was thinking that Thorpe was hurt at year end. Possibly Tommy John- anyone hear any health update?
  9. I am in favor of signing two free agent pitchers in the mid range. Start Meyer and May in the bullpen. After the injuries or ineffectiveness of a couple starters Meyer and May move into the rotation. That gives time for the higher upside minor league relievers to progress. Most of the concern has been about the starting pitching but I feel there is just as much if not more to worry about from the bullpen. Let Meyer and May have success in short stretches before starting them on the road against Oakland (May's 1st start). This will also help keep their innings down. IMHO Bret Anderson makes sense on an incentive laden deal because when he gets hurt you move Meyer or May out of pen into the rotation. At least he should help you when he pitches. Unlike Nolasco. The other targets have been mentioned frequently on this site- Masterson, Santana, Liriano. I would wait as there does not seem to be as many teams looking for pitching as most years.
  10. I hope this means that they are bringing up ALL the prospects and wanted Hunter in the clubhouse and dugout to help them learn how to play winning major league baseball. Outfield defense sucks but look at our lineup!!! No Rasmus I am trying to convince myself that this could be good. Someone help please
  11. How soon can they be ready. I would love to watch that team. Especially when you sub in Santana, Vargas and Arcia.
  12. Who do you think the Twins could lose in the Rule 5 draft?
  13. I hit the like button 5 times on Jokin comment- I would go for Masterson and Anderson - start May and Meyer in the pen. Move them into the rotation as starters get hurt or are ineffective. No more PJ Walters, Pedro Hernandez, Samuel Deduno, Mike Pelfrey - As the article stated we have depth but not quality depth. Making these moves would change that.
  14. Enjoyed the podcast. The shorter format is a good idea. Keeps it moving. I would enjoy a show recapping the new coaching staff when they all are named. I think they are off to an excellent start there. I am thinking they may do the same with the pitching coach and the bullpen coach- that is be sure one of them is bilingual.
  15. When I counted the roster they have 36 including Jared Burton and Kris Johnson. I would not include Aaron Thompson. Add Goodrum, Gilmartin and Wheeler and you still have room for a rule 5 guy.
  16. I watched the tape of the championship game. John Manual and Joe Magraine (announcers) agreed that Rosario was the best hitting prospect in the Arizona Fall league. They love his swing and said he could compete for future batting championships. If I didn't know better I would have thought they were Twins announcers. Hope they are right
  17. I love Santana's approach at the plate but it is safe to project some regression. I think his offense at shortstop along with his range and arm will more than make up for the errors. Looking forward to watching him for many years.
  18. Wonder if you could trade Plouffe for a left fielder, Have Escobar play 3B until Sano is ready? None of free agents get me too excited
  19. I like breaking Meyer in from the bullpen. Start with some low pressure spots. Look at May's first start- on the road at Oakland. Put your players in spots where they can be successful. That is a big part of managing.
  20. I would platoon Hicks with Schaefer in left. Use the bench player later in the game if we are winning to get Arcia and his minus 23 runs saved out of the outfield. If we are losing use them as pinch runners. Hicks will not be the everyday cf once Buxton is ready. This gives Hicks a chance to prove himself in the majors but in a reduced role so if he flops again it does not impact the rest of the team as much as the last two years.
  21. I feel the same way but there are financial considerations that they need to take care of first. They may have to wait a month before they call both of them up. Does make for a nice looking lineup. Looking forward to next year.
  22. When I read the debate on whether a player (Goodrum for instance) should be on the 40 man roster I am not sure how I feel about it until I see how many spots they have available and who has to come off if he goes on. I saw him play a couple times and your description is accurate- very athletic. Kinda like Santana's so I am hoping for a repeat. I may have to try an make a 40 man list.
  23. If Escobar ranks 3rd on the defensive rating not sure why we have to upgrade there. He has hit OK for a shortstop. Outfield defense I agree has to be better before we can expect any real improvement. Problem that I see is that Arcia fields and hits like a DH but that spot is taken.
  24. How much different does Pelfrey profile than Wade Davis? Davis was a back end of rotation starter with a mid 4- to sometimes 5 era. Threw mid 90's as a starter but added velocity in bullpen. It could happen
  25. Great news - Would have been worse if they did not find anything
