  1. I think you nailed the two choices. I would send Santana back to AAA so he could play SS everyday. I think Robinson may be gone when Buxton is ready although they may delay that until close to September 1st.
  2. I went to the triple A all star game. Beresford hit the ball hard twice. If the wind wasn't blowing across from right his ball would have gotten out. Would have been his first of the year. That being said the ball should have been caught. The right fielder Peter O'Brien looked very good at the plate but he needs to be a DH. Made another error later in the game that they did call an error. Rogers changes speeds well as he pitched between 74-88 mph. Does not seem to me to have the stuff for a MLB starter. He does remind me of Mark Buerhle so that would be very good if he can have half his success. Achter got my wife's favorite player Cheslor (first name) to pop out and win me a side bet so I have a new favorite minor league reliever- Achter.
  3. This outfield is improving by the month which is a good thing. Hopefully Kepler will be ready by the start of next year. He could play right with Buxton and Rosario. Hicks the 4th outfielder. I would not move Mauer to any spot other than DH. Too late in his career.
  4. My feeling on trading Plouffe depends on what can you get for him? Would he bring a young catcher then I would trade him. If I could not get good value in a mid season trade then I would move Plouffe to first Sano plays third and DH Mauer. Better than DHing Escobar, Nunez
  5. I am not understanding your comment. Do you think they should have brought Arcia to the Twins?
  6. Enjoyed the post. I would add Sano to the DH list. I could see him being called up in another month. The Santana suspension could end up being a blessing in disguise. Not only will he be a fresh mid season arm the Twins saved 8 million in payroll that can be used to acquire a player if needed. How much do you think Soriano will get. He just fired Boras so must be wanting to sign somewhere.
  7. How much would Soriano cost? Twins saved money on Santana suspension
  8. I was down at Fort Myers for a week and was not impressed by Meyer either. I also saw good swings at his fastball so even though he has the velocity I question how much movement he is getting. I did get to see Sano. The home run he hit off Gerrit Cole was very impressive. Can't wait for to arrive.
  9. A little of topic but I am heading down tomorrow also and was wondering what time do you need to get to the stadium to watch the Good Morning America drills and batting practice.
  10. Are the minor league games streamed on their Web sites?
  11. Minor league contract only. Would like to see it happen but do not have any expectations of performance. We took a chance on him once before.
  12. Thanks for the post. Interesting stuff. I would agree that the prospects that I am most hopeful for do not have many AA abs. We had a couple veteran hitters in AAA have nice years but this system sorts them out. It would be interesting to look at this next year because looks like Double A this year should have quite a few interesting prospects.
  13. Besides psychology also strategy. Last year when the Royals could maintain a lead to the 7th inning the game was over. Their bullpen was that good. But if the game is tied they went to a different part of the bullpen with much different results.
  14. According to Fangraph article Hamel's surplus contract value at plus 10-20 million over his contract. Trouble is you will not get him for that just like free agency. If you want him you will have to pay more than the other 29 teams are willing to. I would work Plouffe into the trade since he has value and will be replaced by Sano. Meyer and Plouffe for Hamels.
  15. I too think that it is whoever has the best spring but I think Pelfrey is in the mix. It will be interesting to see what happens to the pitchers that do not win that 5th spot. Do they head for the bullpen, minors or a little of both? Hard to say because it does not seem to be business as usual this year. Tampa has never been afraid to put rookies in their rotation. Will Allen carry that philosophy with him? Can't wait for spring training. Merry Christmas
  16. Hopefully the days of top 5 draft picks are over so another means to acquire top talent is an excellent idea. I am in the camp that they will go over the limit but with multiple signings not for 1 guy.
  17. That is who I thought would get a look. Some of the high velocity relief pitchers.
  18. I mentioned Anderson as being interesting for the Twins but I assumed a low base with incentives. I too was surprised by the 10 Million guaranteed with his injury history. Just glad it was not the Twins Pino is no loss. Just cheap rotation depth. I assume that is how KC got him to sign by offering major league contract. Must figure that it is worth it to pay the minimum and have him at AAA
  19. Terry Ryan has mentioned adding to the bullpen. Which reliever of the remaining free agents would be of interest? Or do you think they wait for a "good deal"
  20. I think he has an option left. Keep him stretched out in triple AAA for spot starts or injuries. I would not put in rotation.
  21. What would it have taken to get Lester to come to Minnesota. I don't think you can use his cubs contract to compare to Hamels. It would have been much more $$$$$ to get him to come to Minnesota.
  22. I would sign Bret Anderson to add another proven starter which would strengthen our bullpen by pushing May, Meyer and Pelfrey into the pen. I realize he has severe durability issue but we would have plenty of candidates to fill his spot when he is on DL. We have plenty of guys but not of Anderson's quality.
  23. The salary commitment for the next 4 years should not be too big of a burden since the future additions should come from the farm system. You rarely get a good financial deal when you add a free agent. Just by definition you have to pay more money than any other team would. So most likely more than he is worth. But I am encouraged by the Twins willingness to add what they soooo needed. A major league starting pitcher.
  24. Since we hired a minor league pitching coach I wonder if he has a player he likes.
  25. I agree with the point that the pitching should be available. I hope the Twin acquire two. The pitching has been so bad I hope they grab all they can afford.
