  1. Completely agree. People are comparing him to a ridiculous standard based on how lights out he was last year. More importantly the Twins defense is really bad. Rarely do they help the pitcher and frequently they hurt the pitcher.
  2. Obviously this philosophy has been researched and approved by the FO. My question is this: Sabermetrics has basically concluded that the overall goal on offense is to avoid making outs. You only get 27 of them so they are valuable to avoid. How does this square with such an aggressive send philosophy? You could make the argument that making an out at home plate is particularly hurtful to the offenses chances.
  3. I’m really thankful for the 10 runs. But how many center cut fastballs have we taken tonight? Apparently the analytics report must have said look for the breaking ball.
  4. Wow. Makes a difference when the fielders actually make plays.
  5. Agreed. Getting Correa back would really stabilize the infield which has been a problem. I also agree about not having enough arms. The young pitchers seem to be wearing down.
  6. Have specific players or Rocco actually said they are tired? Or is this somebody saying they look tired and now it’s become fact? Seems to me a more obvious reason is their two best players are hurt and / or they constructed a feast or famine lineup that is slumping badly.
  7. This. If they can win just a few games they are going to make. The other teams have to much ground to make up and too few games. Doesn’t make these last games any easier to take……
  8. Miranda made a couple really nice plays at third base. That’s all I got …..
  9. That’s my thought. Happens to young players all the time. Or maybe he is just in a slump - happens to all players.
  10. It’s a judgment call so I guess not. My point is that Royce didn’t know what to do and backed off which is what the ump based his call on. I specifically remember in Legion ball with amateur coaches running drills for all the infielders sending runners at us as we were fielding the ball so we would go to the ball without flinching. They literally told us to get bumped if we could. There are so many examples of basic plays they do not execute. How can you get to the bigs and not know this stuff?
  11. Perhaps he can learn to throw the slider to lefties- the back foot variety that’s not really thrown to be a strike.
  12. Spot on. Here is what I don’t get - why do you spend a gazillion dollars on technology etc for minor league development but dont coach basic fielding and baserunning fundamentals that really only cost time. And you are correct it doesn’t seem to cause any heartburn in the dugout and it doesn’t get better.
  13. Pulling Ober was a mistake but there were two fielding miscues that were huge in that inning. On KCs first run the runner broke back and wasn’t going to score until the cutoff was set up to third. Once the third base coach saw that he waved the runner home. Secondly Royce simply has to go get that grounder - we actually would want the runner to get in the way as it would be interference and the runner would be out. Royce has obviously not been coached properly on that situation. Royce could have thrown the runner out or got the interference call. Lee made it worse by making the ill advised throw. Another game lost to poor fundamentals- one of (too) many this year.
  14. Ironically if Max had been willing to play CF there would be reasons to bring him back. However Wallner and Larnach are better at this point and are playing for the minimum salary. Doubtful they will spend the money but Max leaving gives them a great opportunity to go get a good right handed hitting outfielder ( Austin Martin does not meet that criteria).
  15. He could. He did a great interview in his second language and he really knows his stuff.
  16. Loved seeing Miranda bust it right out of the box. Wouldn’t have made third without it. pablo López is one smart dude. When he hangs it up the Twins should just make him a pitching coach.
  17. An oft injured player trying not to get injured again. Or maybe an existing injury. Neither of us knows which brings this fun conversation full circle. Enjoy the game tonight.
  18. It was reported by Dan Hayes I believe.
  19. Yep. He’s been told to protect himself. Neither of us know his physical condition so neither of us should present his physical status as fact.
  20. Hear hear. Some of the stuff that gets stated as fact amazes me. The latest is several are posting that Lewis is playing hurt. I have not read from one credible source this is the case. Rather somebody on TD posts it as fact and now many are repeating.
  21. If Kiriloff played for another team what would you give up to acquire him in trade?
  22. Put me in the camp that says managers aren’t as important as most people think. I also think Rocco has far less autonomy than prior managers. The FO has a certain way they want the games to be managed regardless if it’s Rocco or a new guy. There are things I really dislike about how games are managed but my guess is most of it is coming from the FO. I will say Rocco seems to run a good clubhouse in that we don’t read about strife and his clubs seem to bounce back after tough losses. On the flip side his teams are poor at fundamentals and that goes back to the beginning of his tenure. Again I don’t know how much of that is on him or the organization. I hate the idea that they just plug guys into spots as if they don’t care about defense. The early game pinch hitting is something that I disagree with but I believe that is being dictated by the FO. So I guess I’m saying there is a lot I disagree with but really have no idea who is actually responsible for it.
  23. I e been frustrated the last couple of years about the Twins poor fundamentals. I have stated that they give away a game a week due to poor fundamental play. Unbelievably it’s gotten worse in the last month.
