  1. Which of course goes back to the insanity of jumping back in bed with Ballys. The Twins sold their souls and crapped on their fans for money. They spent the last several years telling us how bad Ballys was and then fell all over themselves to take their money.
  2. I’m afraid they already have - maybe two generations.
  3. To me the brand is about the club overall not about short term wins and losses. I’m a huge Twins fan and always will be but my respect and love for the club is at an all time low right now.
  4. I don’t know about the ratings because good outfield play is subtle. Get a good jump and run a great route to the ball. In addition to his speed Buck is really good at this. The others are not. I really like Castro but I’ve seen multiple balls drop that Buck would have put in his hip pocket. Kep isn’t that fast but generally takes good routes and doesn’t make foolish decisions. I think Castro will be good with experience but still has work to do. The others are all below average with a ceiling of average. It’s a derivative of Falvines drafting strategy of just acquiring bats with little regard to fielding or overall athleticism.
  5. The idea that less money to spend is acceptable to more money to spend is nonsensical. You always want more resources. The payroll cuts dictated that Polo was going to be traded no matter what. Falvine ended up settling on a deal that did us no good this year and likely will never do us any good. They clearly needed a starter and had to take DeSclafani. They needed a right handed hitting outfielder that could actually play and they got Margot. Gurriel was a great fit but cost money. Falvine had to pull a rabbit out of the hat due to the payroll but instead pulled a skunk. Ownership is getting exactly what they deserve in fan apathy. Can’t wait for Dave St Peter to open his mouth on this subject.
  6. Yea this is a weak argument. One small sample offsetting another small sample. As far as his defense goes he has made several great plays and has made several brutal errors in critical situations. I was meh on the signing because it was driven by payroll cuts that I am not meh on.
  7. I am interested in if there is any data that suggests that load management prevents injuries? It seems like a common sense notion but the Twins seem very proactive in this regard yet their injury history is pretty bad recently. Makes me wonder if we are outsmarting ourselves.
  8. Concur. As is I think mlb hitters will do as you have stated - they won’t be helping him out with poor plate discipline. My hope is that he can continue to improve in this area to the point where it isn’t an issue. We will see if he gets there. In a normal injury year he would almost certainly get a chance at some point this year.
  9. Almost makes a person wonder why Martin played SS for years in the minors when everyone knew he would never play there in the bigs.
  10. I think people are overreacting to this. The guy has no real track record. Back of the bullpen arms are going to pitch more than one inning - somebody has too. Guys with options are going to ride the shuttle. We are not talking about Durán here.
  11. This is really interesting. He has a very unique hitting style and he takes it to the extreme. It’s like he is looking for one pitch in one spot and if ain’t there he’ll take strike 3. Not my cup of tea but his ops is respectable.
  12. Someone has to pitch more than one inning. And it ain’t gonna be the top guys.
  13. I think you nailed it. The Twins will eventually emerge as the best team IF nothing happens to Lopez Ryan or Ober. If one of those guys gets seriously hurt then I don’t think we will prevail. Our starting pitching is paper thin.
  14. I love Castro but it looked like there were two balls that dropped in that Buck would have caught.
  15. Obviously I have no idea if there has been a formal change to the clubs hitting philosophy. I did notice several players choking up with two strikes. Jeffers is one of them and he has been really tough with two strikes lately.
  16. This is an interesting topic to me. First the starting rotation has been excellent the last few years and even the bullpen this year. However I think it matters a lot how you get there. Getting there via trades almost exclusively means giving up valuable assets. If you draft and develop your starters you don’t have to do that plus you have the starters other teams want. Starting pitching is the best currency you can have in baseball. The Twins while doing well via the trade route have stunk drafting and developing starters with Ober being the only one to date (I’m talking proven MLB starters). I find this odd because the Twins have clearly been good at taking existing pitchers and making them better. Maybe it’s simply that they won’t use top picks on pitchers but it’s a strange dichotomy.
  17. Yea he has had a couple misplays in big spots for a guy that is supposed to be good with the glove.
  18. I agree with you about the box on TV. It’s not the one umps are graded upon. Who knows what the umpire scorecard is using. If this is going to be shown it needs to be the one the umps are graded on. I believe the one they are graded on has a small buffer zone around the plate where either call is acceptable which is different than the box on TV. A week or so ago Angel had the plate for the Twins. According to the box on TV he did well - I only saw a couple misses during the 7 innings I watched. Another poster posted the umpire scorecard the next morning and it wasn’t very good. I think the other big change is that hitters will take borderline pitches with two strikes. The just about guarantees that someone is going to be mad. When hitters protected the plate with two strikes there were fewer of these situations.
  19. Excellent article Cody. Well researched with reasonable theories. I wonder if teams are adjusting to him for the first time. Previously he got hurt so frequently teams didn’t need really need to make a plan to pitch to him. I view him as in the same boat as Julien Wallner Larnach and Miranda. They all have to prove they are bona fide MLB hitters. Chances are 2 will make it and 2 will bust. We won’t know until they each get 1000 -1500 at bats. These guys are also similar in that none of them are great fielders so their bats need to be special.
  20. Let’s eat, Grandma. Let’s eat Grandma. Punctuation matters.
  21. Three Finger Brown is great. With regards to the Wolves playoff run Slo Mo might be the best modern nickname. It’s perfect for him
  22. Poor double play turn all the way around
  23. I’ve always liked Garvers swing. So compact yet powerful.
  24. What comes to my mind is that in 8 years Falvine haven’t developed a right handed hitting outfielder good enough to forego Margot. (Did you see what I did there 😂)
