Could Max Kepler Receive a Qualifying Offer?
Linus replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Kepler walks two of Wallner Larnach Martin and Em Rod will have break through as we need a left and right fielder. I don’t like those odds.- 83 replies

Could Max Kepler Receive a Qualifying Offer?
Linus replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins are stuck. They don’t have anyone you can count on to take his place next year barring some Wallner and Larnach miracle but they apparently don’t have the money to issue the QO. They don’t have a left fielder either so that makes this really interesting. I would do it but I have no idea what ownership plans to do with payroll.- 83 replies

Julien had an unsustainable babip last year. Several of us posted that he was a huge regression candidate especially as the league adjusted to him. He now needs to go to St Paul just to get his confidence back Lee has not played any second base yet so I would put Castro there. It won’t be perfect but he handles things in the field ok no matter where they put him.

What’s Left For Emmanuel Rodriguez at Wichita?
Linus replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Having success in AA is always a positive sign especially at 21 years old. I also like that he should end up being a fielder if he is moved to a corner spot. I get a little nervous when I read about his hitting profile. Sounds a lot like Julien and as we are seeing right now the swing and miss aspect will be exploited in the big leagues.- 49 replies

Allan Anderson, The Forgotten ERA Title Winner
Linus replied to Al from SoDak's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks for the look back. I remember him throwing a change up almost a screwball low and on the outside corner to right handed hitters over and over and they couldn’t do anything with it. -
There is zero chance he gets swapped for Margot. This FO is not going to release the right handed bat. If there is an injury or had Kiriloff continued to struggle maybe.

This reminds me of the Joe Benson debate from a number of years ago. I don’t care if they give him a chance but there is zero chance he takes Margot’s place. The FO is not going get rid of the right handed bat.

I like this idea. An in depth dive into a prospect would be interesting and more useful than subjective rankings.

Man the Twins make a lot of mental errors. Larnach has to stop there and make the guy come and tag him to avoid the double play. I swear we learned this stuff in Legion ball. -
Seeing Go Go in this list made me chuckle because Gardy used to call Go Go and Alexi Casilla loose canon one and loose canon two. They made some head scratching plays.

I'm very much starting to get worried about Duran...
Linus replied to Alex's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The reduced velocity could be rusty mechanics. He is really far behind everyone else because of his IL stint. -
I’m with the bell on this one. Miranda has to really hit to be a regular in this league as he doesn’t offer much else. He could take on the right handed bench bat next year but there is no I would want him regularly in the field. He’s barely passable at third and worse at first.

Actually I think the pitches are being called from the dugout. You see the catchers looking in there and the other day Ryan was looking straight in there before every pitch.

Did the Twins Give Up on Brent Rooker Too Soon?
Linus replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We might be talking about the wrong guy. LaMonte Wade has a 174 Wrc+ right now. That is quietly turning into a really bad trade.- 44 replies

Yea having a 23 year old in the fifth spot who gives you a chance to win more of the games than you lose is a pretty sweet spot to be in. Have people forgot about Matt Shoemaker?
-
Or an even more simple answer - if we need to use a different right handed hitting outfielder that player would be? Probably Martin. If I’m betting I would bet Margot is going to contribute more over the next couple of months.

Twins Minor League Report (5/21): Morris Makes Double-A Debut
Linus replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
For me the most promising thing is Winder pitching two scoreless. What a bonus if he could get back in the bullpen mix (assuming he pitches well).- 24 replies

The Twins Need to Sort Out Their 60/60/42 Problem

Durán has three good pitches so it would be foolish to not use them all. Especially because he gives up more hard hit balls with his fastball. He has to guard against getting predictable which may have come into play with the curve that was hit out. His fastball doesn’t have a ton of movement so he does have to locate it well even with high velocities. I wonder if he could take a couple mph off the splinker so it acted more like a change. Lastly the reduction in velocity could easily be that his mechanics are a little rough from his delayed start.

Obviously we are in the middle of a tough stretch where all the weaknesses in the club and questionable decisions by the FO have reared their ugly head. These things are foremost in most fans mind. However it’s easy (kind of) to see a way out of this. The Twins are 24-23 after some bad injuries and having played their worst ball too often. Their starting pitching has been pretty good most of the time. Most importantly the top three starters are healthy which is really important. The bullpen has struggled but Durán is back which is huge and Stewart will be back in a couple weeks. That will make a big difference as some of the guys who have struggled will be dropped in the pecking order or be coaching Legion ball. I hate to pin so much on one guy but Royce Lewis is going to be a difference maker. He will help the lineup and improve our defense. Again there could be a positive ripple effect as Miranda could get some reps at first or DH wherever we are weakest. DH reps means Jeffers can catch a little more and Vasquez can sit more. This also allows Castro to be used in his best role moving around the diamond giving guys a break. One thing not discussed here is Castro playing a little second base. Julien needs a breather big time and Willi could handle it I think. Lastly Brooks Lee is starting his rehab assignment. While he still needs to prove plenty there is at least a long shot chance that he could help out. And if you really want to be optimistic Buck is kind of healthy and Max looks like second half Max. If this scenario plays out we can still be a 88-90 win club. Of course I could write a post justifying the exact opposite scenario but we will save that one for another day.
