    In defense of our catchers they’ve been instructed to squat in such a way that makes it next to impossible to throw a runner out.

    I watch nearly every Twins game. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out a player sometimes it’s not. Since you seem skeptical of my opinion you could read scouting reports and bear in mind these were when he was at AA OR AAA.

    This. Plus Miranda is not good in the field. Barely passable at third and lost at first. He needs to go to St Paul and learn to play 3rd base. Better yet trade high on this guy.

    Always take a win! I do hope the Twins clean it up soon. They have been making too many fundamental mistakes. Taking a step back they have come through a horrible injury patch quite nicely and now we get two good starters back. Oh and Miranda needs to focus on third base wherever that may be.

    He’s not a good catcher. His hitting speaks for itself although he deserves 1000 at bats or so for sure. His defense is completely overrated and it largely stems from the goofy catching position he uses (at the request of the coaches). It’s nearly impossible for him to throw anybody out and he can’t block anything in the dirt that isn’t right at him. I believe framing is overrated. The problem in trying to quantify it means you have to know whether a “stolen” strike was just a missed call by the ump independent of any glove magic. If umps are fooled by him jerking his mitt to the center of the plate then we need robo umps yesterday. How a catcher receives the ball has value. In the old days it was called soft hands or he receives the ball well but it’s cumulative effect isn’t that great. Go back to a crouch gain some lateral movement and throw somebody out. I’ll take the best you can do on framing after that.

    No way do I sign him long term. However I would go to him an extra $10 million if he opts in for next year. Consider it a penalty for the dumb decision you made with Lewis.

    It was a dumb idea to have him play all over. I said it at the time as I wanted him to focus on SS. He would have just been sent down after substantial time at SS. For a risk averse organization that was a dumb move.

    When the trade was made I had very low expectations as the primary motive was to get rid of JD. What a pleasant surprise both Sanchez and Urshela have been.

    Pitching is the name of the game. Always has been. They are too thin in both the rotation and the bullpen so yea that’s something to be worried about.

    Obviously happy that he is having success. His ability to go to the opposite field has served him well. I still believe in TKs adage that you don’t really know what you have in a hitter until they get 1000 to 1500 at bats.

    He doesn’t have the command necessary to be much more than he is right now. If it takes 80 pitches to get thru 4 innings you are not really a starter. Sorry Dr Ghast. He might be able to provide some length in the bullpen. They have to find someone to pitch multiple innings out of the pen.

    I think Gordon’s versatility is under appreciated. With the injuries and non vaxxers not getting into Canada we will find him playing regularly in the near future.

    I’m not sure who I would choose. What I am sure of is they can’t mess around and have Kepler miss a couple games that turns into 5 or 6. If he’s not ready tomorrow IL him.

    Well they should have never signed him in the first place so I’m not going to give Falvine refit for dumping him.

    Yes. Easily. Relax and enjoy that this hard working young man left a pile on the table to be a Minnesota Twin.

    Royce Lewis will be the Twins starting SS for the next 10 years starting next year. It’s in everyone’s best interest for him to play a lot at short. He’s done fine in the field but can improve a lot That ain’t gonna happen with him wandering around playing a bunch of positions he’s never going to play again. A little third base would be fine but he just needs most of his reps to be at SS.

    He is coming on strong. Last year at this time he was playing Wisconsin high school baseball.

    Well written article containing some under the radar info. Getting ahead would surely make him look like a different pitcher and may get some chases on the splitter. However I think people are expecting him to be something that he’s not. He’s a bullpen piece not some dominant reliever.
