    I’m sorry we are out of stock on damaged goods pitchers. The Minnesota ball club cleaned us out. We can put you on a waiting list if you would like.

    I absolutely hear what you are saying and largely agree with it. But my next question is what are we going to do? Stand pat with an average rotation? What do we do after next year when we can lose Gray and Mahle?

    Toronto wouldn’t even pick up the phone for that deal.

    I read a similar article in the Athletic and there were several other teams that could top any Twins offer. The Twins fired their trade bullets at the last trade deadline. The only guys they have left are Lewis or Lee which ain’t gonna happen.

    There is no doubt spending big on free agent pitching is a monetary risk. Never investing top dollars or high picks in pitching reduces your monetary risk but makes your performance risk sky rocket. The only way the Twins method works is if you get really good at developing your own pitching. The Twins haven’t done that and show no signs of being able to do it.

    “High level talent”. Sorry I’m not seeing that - I see a group of oft injured number 3 starters. The “if everything goes perfectly we will be good” plan never works. Sign some pitchers.

    Nope. I love Luis but he needs to be traded for the best pitcher they can get. They have a ton of options at first second and third. Use the expendable asset to get a good pitcher.

    I’m a big believer in TKs theory that you don’t really know what you have until they have 1000 to 1500 at bats. I think Miranda ends up being a productive but not great hitter.

    Good info on the salaries. They are definitely keeping him otherwise they would have traded him prior to the arb deadline. It’s also why I think it’s BS that they had trade interest in him. There is no surplus value in his contract - my opinion is that they are under water on that contract so who hell is going to give up a prospect for him? They are doubling down on their first mistake. I think this is where their strict adherence to their own models is failing them. You can find all kinds of advanced metrics that say he should be good. He isn’t and hasn’t been for three years. Whatever.

    I e not seen any reports that he is “terrific” defensively. Can you elaborate?

    No way I’m giving up that package for two years of Woodruff. Just sign Rodon.

    Sano was frustrating but far from a bust. Very few people hit 160 home runs in the big leagues. I wonder if he was right on the edge of being able to handle fastball velocity when he came up and as it has increased in recent years he might simply not be able to catch up to the heater anymore. Then you start cheating and the old slider down and away eats you up.

    Wow. Lots of worrying here. I would say there is a slight chance one guy gets picked. Every team has a bunch of guys people are worried about.

    I guess one advantage of trading away prospects at the deadline is it makes these roster decisions pretty easy. There really isn’t anything leftover to be worried about. I doubt they lose anybody and nobody they care about.

    After thinking about this a little it makes sense so long as they pursue a better right handed cof. The market is pretty slim for this type of player so having Garlick as a back up plan at least sets the floor. If this is plan A then that’s a different story…..

    So now we are convinced that Moran is a lock? He had some good moments but handing guys jobs based on small samples is how you run into trouble.

    I think this is an understated factor. I believe there is a 10% of signing Correa. They cannot hang around and wait for him and miss out on other free agents. Sign him early or move on and get some other needed parts before they are snapped up.

    It’s important to remember that prospects wash out at every level including AA to AAA and AAA to the big leagues. Both have lots of work ahead of them. Not to say they can’t make it but to assume they will is folly.

    They didn’t have enough good pitchers. There. Problem solved. I’m only being a little snarky as I think a lot of people think there is a magic formula that will allow a team that has too many crappy pitchers to put together effective pitching. you want good pitching get good pitchers.

    Yea and not that good when healthy. Time to see if we can get value from him in a long relief/piggyback role.

    I get that it seems risky to sign invest in bullpen arms. You know what is far more risky? Consistently trying to build your bullpen with cast offs and rejects. You might protect yourself from wasted payroll but you are certainly taking big risks with performance on the field.

    This is an example of my two biggest concerns with this FO. First absolute rigid adherence to their beliefs on how to build a roster. Second a middling to poor track record on player evaluation. I hope Alcala can contribute but let’s be real: he has had a couple good months and that’s it. A reliever that struggles to get lefties out ain’t that useful. Celestino in St Paul next year will be addition by subtraction.
