    I do love reading the trade offers where the Twins get rid of junk for other teams stars. Why in the world would Boston want that package? What good is Urshela and Sano to them besides two guys required to be on their 40? Sure they could keep Kepler and Steer and cut Sano and not offer Urshela a contract next year, but then why take them in the first place. Also as of right now Martin, SWR, Enlow and Jordan B aren't getting you the top guys, maybe even if you offered them all up in the same trade. And probably nobody would want to take on that many guys required to be on the 40 this year and next.

    I think you missed my point/sarcasm on that one, There is little to no chance any of the teams would make one of those trades, (Maybe Boston would make the trade, maybe) But the rest of the trades are the Twins trading garbage or less than other teams would offer for those guys, so yes if you can basically steal other team's players for your garbage you make those trades. For example it doesn't matter if the Twins are in first or last if you can get a major league player for Cave, Archer and #30 prospect, make the trade, or if you can trade failed (at this time could he be valued any lower?) first round pick and Smith for Bard, they could trade him next week for way more than they paid do it in a heart beat. If the Marlins are willing to do that trade again you have to do it. If the Diamondbacks are going to give you a pitcher you have control over though 25 for those two prospect, again you do that.

    This started out with you answer Mike Sixel's following question - "How will next year be better? They likely have no SS.... And need to replace Bundy and Archer. They won't have a built in lead in the division. I'm genuinely curious why anyone thinks next year is likely to be better. ? ' And you laid out a scenario (which by the way I hope happens which I mentioned) where a lot things have to go right and you didn't answer the question on the built in lead. I pointed out all the things that have to go right including Cleveland and Chicago being as mediocre as they are this year and the Twins FO have to sign a top tier starting pitcher (which they haven't ever done). And your response is we could paint any scenario in a negative light, then use a multiple examples of things to the best of my knowledge didn't happen like signing Corbin, Clevinger and Rendon. Then also use some crazy example of what others thought of the Donaldson trade and how the Twins are going to spend $20 on pitching, which may or may not happen. So yes if all or maybe all of these things happen the Twins might be in a better position next year, but as I was pointing out that is truly based on faith and hope only. I will say some of things you said are very, very likely to happen, but what I know is as of July 28th 2002 the Twins are in first place, and I can't say with any certainty that July 28 2023 they will be.

    You are correct everybody has an option. I basically was going off the 63 million you said they would have to spend. Do you know the amount they spent this past offseason? Correa 35.1, Gray 10.7, Bundy 4, Archer 2.75 and Smith, which is a total of 55.05 and then they subtracted a bit from the Donaldson and Rogers trades, the difference between the money to spend next year which is only 8 less than your projected 63 and they didn't sign one top rotation guy, Plus they have to replace Sanchez, Urshela and Sano so unless those guys are replaced by prospects that will bring down your 63 to less or about the same as last year. IMO the Twins have a philosophy on starting pitchers and that is pretty consistently allowing their starters to pitch to 21 or 22 guys, you don't and can not pay the price of a top end starter and limit him to this and I don't see them changing that philosophy for one or two guys when they haven't done that for Gray or Ryan. IMO this front office will pay higher salaries for the offensive guys and let the pipeline, trades and Bundy's of the world fill out a rotation. Now I hope I am wrong and they go out and sign a stud starter and they let him pitch to the best of his abilities and not stick to their starting pitching philosophy, but I have little hope and faith that they do.

    If the Twins could pull this off it would be the miracle of all miracles and I would be all for it. They basically would 2 starters, 2 relief pitchers , a outfielder, a catcher and a utility guy for Kepler, Urbina and clear out a bunch of minor leagues players that most likely won't amount to a whole lot.

    So the same team minus Correa and a few other vets and the hope (fingers crossed) the Twins go out and do something they have never done before and are going to do it Twice (Sign a high end starting pitcher)? Free Agents next year, Price, Sale, Rodon, Syndergaard, Morton, Wainwright, Eovaldi, Kersahw, Greinke, Nola, Severino, Manaea, Gibson, Bassitt and Musgrove are the top guys available. I can assume we can count out Price, Morton, Wainwright, Greinke, Gibson and Kershaw from the list. That leaves Sale, Rodon, Syndergaard, Eovaldi, Nola, Severino, Manaea, Bassitt and Musgrove. Sale and Bassitt are both over 33, so probably can assume if they were to be brought in, it would be for a 1 or 2 contract, maybe 3, but do we really see the Twins pay 20 million a year for these two. Are Syndergaard, Eovaldi and Manaea top end pitchers? Down to Rodon, Nola, Severino and Musgrove. (and the Twins are going to outbid everybody for not just 1 of those guys but 2 of them?, sorry I don't see that happening) Then they are going to go out and get a bat for the bench because there is no room for a starter and two expensive relief pitchers. Man I wish I could live in a world where I would believe those things could happen. In my world they try to get Correa back (or sign Swanson to a deal similiar to what they did with Correa if he doesn't have the interest he wants), maybe get Wilson Contreras, bring in a relief pitcher like a Joe Smith and sign a starting pitcher like Jose Quintana or something like that. Also the team you envision is no more a contender then the team they have this year is.

    Urshela, Sanchez, Duffey, Smith Garlick, Bundy, Cotton, Archer, Cano and Sano are all on the 26 man roster. (Also you understand that removing Dobnak doesn't open up a spot correct? taking him off the 60 day DL takes a spot away but cutting him or whatever doesn't free up a spot) I am very confused how you take 10 guys off the major league roster and replace them with minor league prospects that need to be added to the 40 and since the 40 is full now some or all them will need to be added to the 26 man and how that wouldn't completely be considered another rebuilding year? Not sure you understand but for every guy that is removed from the 40 and is on the 26 will need to be replaced with another player capable of playing in the majors. For example Urshela is removed the Twins need a major league guy to replace him, ok in this cases it is Steer, Garlick can be replaced by Wallner but the talk is next year is going to be better and the solution is replacing major leagues not only with prospects but prospects that just now need to be added to the 40. To me this is complete crazy talk.

    Hope that injured Pitchers come back as good or better than they were, Hope pitchers that have been hurt in the past don't continue to get hurt. Hope the Twins sign a top starting pitcher and change their starting pitching philosophy for said guy. Hope the Twins sign a really good bullpen guy. Hope that that is no regress from Miranda. Hope a 26 year old minor league SS (not even currently on the 40 man) gets us to the SS of the future in Lewis and hope Lewis is what he showed this year in 41 plate appearances. Hope they sign a catcher and Jeffers come back and is better than he was this year. Hope Buxton is at least as healthy as he is this year and that Arraez is in the top 5 in batting average and on base percentage. Hope that Jax and Moran do what they have done so far this year. Hope that two rookies in Sisk and Schulfer are viable bullpen arms. Hope that the following players are at their best Larnach (Pre-June), AK (Post April but with some power), Celestino (pre-July) and Gordon (pre-July) and are healthy. And hope both Cleveland and Chicago play like they did in 22 or at least close to as bad as they played. First I would like to say I hope everyone of those things happen, But lets be honest that is a lot of things that need to fall into place (Now I understand they don't need all that to happen to compete for a division title next year, but if most of it doesn't happen we could be sitting in the same spot next year claiming that 24 is the real year to compete)

    Mahle makes more sense because he probably has a better chance of buying into the only face 21/22 guys a start philosophy more then Castillo IMO. This year he is averaging facing just over 23 batters a game, but is been over 100 pitches 10 of the last 12 games. The Twins could tell him they could cut down him facing a few guys a game bringing his pitch count below 100 and he would have better numbers and a better chance of staying healthy. I think Castillo would tell them to pound sand he is looking for a his first and last big contract at age 31. Just my two cents

    You are correct he isn't wrong per se. The offense blew up the starter and first relief pitcher which in theory sends the Brewers down the path of using their worst relief pitchers which might allow the offense to continue to pile on runs but to no available the Twins pitching staff said we will have none of that and gave up just as many runs as the offense scored and allowed to Brewers to bring in their shut down arms for the last three innings and Rocco blames the offense for that. It is ridiculous to say because the pitching staff can't hold a team to less than 6 runs it is on the offense for not scoring of the back end of the Brewers pen.

    Is the really a question, it should go without saying they are the worst. The Twins have 14 stolen bases that is dead last in the majors and the next closest team has 26. 17 players have more stolen bases than the Twins whole team. For example Gordon and Polanco lead the Twins with an amazing 3 stolen bases. Here is a list of Yankees that have move than the Twins leaders (and these aren't speed burners) Kiner-Falefa (14), Hicks (9), Judge (9), Locastro (6), Rizzo (6), Torress (5), LeMahieu (4). Want to know who is tied with Buxton (2), Joey Gallo, Jose Trevino (yes a catcher), and two former twins Josh Donaldson and Marwin Gonzalez. Last year they were tied for 24th (only 4 teams had less), in 2020 dead last, in 2019 you guessed it dead last, in 2018 they were tied for 27th (only 3 teams had less), In 2017 they were 9th, in 2016 12th. This FO is absolutely adverse to stealing bases, which I think leads to them be bad everywhere on the base paths.

    You mean before after they signed a SS to a 35 million dollar contract or traded a former first round pitcher for a guy with 2 years of control? Which pitchers would you like brought up? Balazovic, Enlow, Henriquez, Sands, Smeltzer or Strotman, those are the only pitchers in the minors on the 40 man? Or are you talking about bringing up guys that need to be added to the 40 man? One to argue this core isn't even as good as the core that was assembled in the late 2016 - 2021 and how did that work out? This play for the next year attitude when you are in first and have been for months is perverted, hey lets give up on this year so we can play for the totally unknown next year, its sad.

    IMO it has to do with how much the Twins have over performed (based on this years expectation) on top of how bad the pen has been and how terrible Chicago has been and there only 3 games separate the two teams. If some of these guys on Chicago start to click and the Twins don't change, well I think we know the outcome of that.

    I agree the bullpen wasn't bad, but it wasn't 2 ER in 5, it was 2 in 4 2/3. You gave Duffey credit for an out he didn't get, and remember there were still two guys on so if it wasn't the 9th it could have been much worse.

    I am don't have a subscription to Baseball America, but they just posted an article a couple of days ago, the name is Teams Rarely Regret Cost Of Trading For A Star Position Player. Here is one snipit I can read. (Maybe the Twins should be going after a position player as well as a few relief pitchers) For teams acquiring a star position player, the price has almost always been worth it in the last 30 years. For teams trading away players of that caliber, history shows it’s important to manage expectations: no matter how many years of control are left, no matter how touted the young big leaguers or prospects acquired in return are, no matter how much money is saved, teams overwhelmingly don’t win trades when they deal players at that level. In all but the rarest cases, the best they can hope for is that the deal comes out even.

    I am more worried about the Sox then Cleveland. IF Cease keeps pitching this well and Giolito starts pitching like he has in the past, Cueto continues finding the fountain of youth, and Lynn and Kopech get hot that is a pretty solid rotation that could put together a few long win streaks. and with Graveman, Lopez and Hendriks that is a pretty good back end of the pen. If they add Robertson or Bard that looks pretty formidable. Plus their lineup isn't terrible and if a few of the guys that have been terrible play better (Pollock, Moncada, Grandal and Jimenez) things could look real bad for the good guys.

    Not to get to far off topic but remember last year when people were losing their minds because the Twins traded Ynoa and Gil and how they could have been the savior to the 22 rotation? Kind of amazing nobody seems to be anywhere near as upset over losing Wells in the rule 5 to Baltimore. And it is crazy that he as a career WAR of 2.5 which is higher than Ober's (1.5) - (To be fair he is almost a year older) Back on topic, to me after reading all the messages and seeing all the prospect names that have been mentioned, it seems the Twins have somewhere between 10 - 20 guys they could easily trade for relief pitching help without hurting the "pipe line"

    I would hope those on the trade Correa bandwagen are also on the trade Gray, Sanchez, Kepler, Duffey, Smith, Archer, Pagan, Bundy, Sano, Cotton otherwise your logic makes zero sense.

    If you are going down that path, they could make this trade and claim Castillo is part of of the pipeline as well, since it was Winder and SWR/Berrios that got Castillo? Does the pipe line look better with Castillo, Gray, Ryan, Ober or Gray, Ryan, Winder, Ober? The first looks better this year and next, probably not so much after that though.

    Not really meant for you, but it fits my narrative didn't the Twins give up the farm to compete this year with trading Petty and spending 35 million on Correa? So if that didn't get the Twins were they want to be isn't selling the best thing for the twins (Kepler, Gray, Correa, maybe Pagen and Theilbar, and really not anybody named Buxton, AK, Larnach, Lewis, Winder, Ober, and Ryan) Or do the Twins have to go even further in, since they decided have already spent a first round pick and 35 million and they are 3 games up on second? I do agree with you selling the farm isn't the way to go I am completely against trading for a starting pitcher, I don't believe they would change their usage of a new pitcher any different than they treat their current starters, but the real question is what does selling the farm really mean? Is trading 2 two top 10 prospects and 2 top 20 prospects (between 10 - 20) and lets say 3 outside of the top 20 selling the farm? Is trading Lewis the farm? It would be interesting what people thinking trading the farm means? Now I believe the Twins could trade, Strotman, Enlow, Cavaco, Sands, Sabato, Varland, Henriquez, Steer and Wallner for example and not really effect the Twins going forward the next few years.

    I am twice his age and 10% as athletic as Winder, but shoulder impingement doesn't sound good for him. I have been dealing with a shoulder impingement for going on 9 months and it is no fun. Good Luck to him.

    I like your thinking, he is a switch hitter under control though next year, That would free up a trade with Larnach and a pitching prospect for a controllable pitcher.
