How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is there any person that doesn't think the Twins should let their starters go longer in certain situations? (not all situations) Trying to manufacture a run now and then isn't asking them to play a different style it is asking to them to have the tiniest bit of situational awareness. For example on at least 4 occasions the Twins ended a game down by 1 with multiple runners on with a fly ball to the warning track, that is going for a homer when a single wins or extends the game and that terrible baseball. You are correct on your second paragraph I didn't read your post the way it was intended, I apologize.- 147 replies

More fun facts, this year Ober has pitched 17 1/3 (3 games) against the Sox, given up 7 hits, 2 walks, struck out 20 and given up 3 earned runs for a 1.55 ERA. Cueto (prior to the 6th and 7th innings yesterday) had pitched 16 2/3 innings against the Twins given up 21 hits, 3 walks, struck out 16 and given up 10 earned runs for a ERA of 5.40. And there is some model that says pulling Ober after 82 pitches and turning the last 4 innings to the bullpen is the best play? I don't buy it!

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Really? If nothing changes philosophy wise and the Twins won the world series the nay sayers (me included) would give him his rightly due props, we still might not like the way the game is played/managed but I know I am a big enough person to admit when I am wrong. The question is if nothing changes and the Twins don't at least win a playoff series next year (at minimum) are the Rocco backers going to admit it doesn't work or will they claim next year is another rebuilding year?- 147 replies

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To be honest the playoffs are a completely different game, unless the score is out of hand the starters even the best aren't pitching super deep into games. It just so happens that the Twins play just about every game as it was a playoff series and that doesn't work during a 162 game schedule, if with the best bullpens.- 147 replies

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
so in this scenario where do 27 year Ober, 26 year old Winder, and 25 year old Varland land in the bullpen back in the minors? If they Twins signed a Rondon/Bassitt (which I don't think they will) Gray has to be traded. They have to give the Ober, Winder, Varland and SWR a chance it isn't like these are young guys (except for SWR) and if they move them to the pen well that means there is no pitching pipeline and this FO has completely failed at its one job that we were promised. They have to let or teach these guys and Ryan how to pitch deeper in the game and I am not saying into the 8th or 9th (I mean that would be great) but the 6th and 7th. And last night would have been the perfect night to let Ober go out for one more inning, and who cares if he would have gotten shelled it would have been a great lesson.- 147 replies

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I haven't seen one person on this site or in daily life that say/type don't use analytics. Also haven't seen anybody say Rocco has ruined the game. You are generalizing the fans that are unhappy with the results for the last few years with broad sweeping stereotypes. Which is not dis-similar from those that say the Twins are doing exactly what other teams are doing while leaving out the facts that the Twins are at the far end of the spectrum of the all teams. To be honest I don't think anybody is really asking the Twins to play a different style of baseball, I believe what people are asking to incorporate things when situation calls for it. When your team is struggling with its offense try to manufacturer a run now and then or instead of always looking for the big inning try to steal a run now and then. Also claiming 2021 was some sort of rebuilding year is just false, and the Twins basically spending more than they ever have and trading prospects away in 2022 means it also wasn't a rebuilding year but this has more to do with the FO than the manager. As for fundamental baseball, IMO that has more to do with hitting the cutoff, throwing to the correct base, running the bases, and generally not looking like a little league team in the field and bases. Sure being able to actually bunt a ball, execute a hit and run, or a sacrifice fly could be considered small ball but sometimes it is called for in a close game.- 147 replies

How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The question - How Can Rocco Baldelli Regain Twins Fans Favor? Well the only way to regain favor with this fan is walk away. I haven't like his managing style since like day 14 of his first year and when you see the guy just doesn't have it you have to make a change. I was also calling for Zimmer's job for the last few years because it was obvious the team could no longer win with him and I think it is obvious the Twins can't/won't win with Rocco.- 147 replies

Wasn't trying to say it was Ober's fault, but you can't say Ober was good or solid and not say that Cueto was frickin amazing, right?

I love the Ober pitched a good game talk, sure it was a decent 5 inning start, but what Cueto did was an actual good game. Having the starter going 7 and handing over the last two innings to your studs is so much different than going 5 and handing the last 4 innings to a crap shoot of relief pitchers. Not bring Ober out for the 6th was just another dumb mistake by this team, please tell me if I am wrong but these are the same guys he blew away last outing. This decision/game is the cherry on top a sickening season.

What To Do With Gio Urshela?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There are no free agent 3B IMO worth anything, MLB list Carpenter as DH FA. There are no minor league players ready to fill 3rd, so it comes down to three players, Gio, Miranda and Arraez. Gio seems the best option.- 82 replies

Reevaluating Minnesota’s 3 Young Outfielders
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I still have high hopes for these 3 but I would feel better if they weren't 25, 25, and 26 and have done something to establish themselves already and the backups weren't Cave, Celestino and Gordon.- 43 replies

This was an amazing outing by Ober, but in reality the end result wasn't much different than most games by Twins starters. He had a low pitch count, faced 24 and only allowed 3 base runners and one wiped out by a DP (and the Twins extended the lead to 4 in the 6th). He was perfect in the 5th and the 6th (which was required to continue pitching). In the 7th he walked the first guy and the next two were right handed and the runner was removed by a DP, If Sheets can to bat he would have been removed. . In the 8th he was removed when a runner got on and 91 pitches. To pitch that deep into a game the starter has to basically be perfect after the 5th and have a low pitch count and the opposite handed batter can't come up with guys on. I not complaining just or criticizing the Rocco, just pointing out how things usually work.

Royce seems like an amazing person that should be considered a role model for all youths (and adults) for getting though adversity and tough times like a champion. I hope he goes onto to have a amazing career, hopefully for the Twins. Yes, he missed a year covid and has had two nasty injuries, but can we get over the he is still young. He'll likely will be 24 when he sees target field and in no time in history of baseball is that considered young for a prospect (unless you are a catcher). He needs to get healthy and start producing for the Twins ASAP. For reference (age of their first full season) Gary Sanchez 23, Miranda 23, Correa 20, Polanco 22, Urshela 23, Kepler 23, Arraez 22, Buxton 22, Sano 22, Jeffers 24, Larnach 24, Gordon 25.

The only rational reason Bundy is still on the Twins is the FO is trying to lose. And just like last September guys that should be getting their feet wet in the majors are toiling away in the minors while a guy like Bundy who should be hitting balls on the golf course is pitching for the Twins.

Dalton Shuffield is Flying Through the Twins’ System
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Confused on the point of your message. Hildenberger didn't play at California until he was 21 (not sure what took so long, injury? Red shirt?) Then was drafted at 23 and played at two rookie teams. At age 24 he A, A+ and Fall league, at age 25 He played A+, AA and AAA. At age 26 he started in AAA and came to the majors. And like I have been saying about guys that debut at that age he was in the pen and basically had how do I say this nicely, a less than stellar career. Which goes back to the point of my previous message, which you confirmed saying basically has no future in the majors. "The only reason to put a 5 year senior that is 24 in A ball is because you think he has no future with the Twins " -
Could Bailey Ober Move to the Bullpen?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He will be 28 years old on July 12th, if the Twins are still using kid gloves on him that is ridiculous. I hate to be cancelous but he is at the age they should use him until his arm falls off or he establishes that he is more than a 5 inning pitcher. Would anybody really care if the Twins "abused" him ( you know pitched his average inning up a whole inning or let him pitch to dare I say 100 pitchers?) and he ended up with TJ surgery or hurt? I wouldn't, it would prove his body can't handle being a starting pitcher. Sure they could move him to the pen, but it better be a role that is pitching 2 to 3 innings, he has proven he can dominate a lineup one time though.- 20 replies
