    Seth are you jockeying for Randballs stu's job? Ryan pitched 9 innings in the Twins minor leagues, he is no different than Odo, Maeda, Gray and any of trade they have made. If anything him staying healthy makes this FO looks worse with all the other injuries to pitchers. Duran is a successful bullpen arm and Jax the same, is that that the level of success the Twins and us fans are looking for? Winder and Ober haven't done jack yet, they should and could, but as of now both have barely pitched and gotten hurt and have been glorified long relievers. Ober in his 27 career starts has qualified for a win 15 times, meaning in just over half of his games has he even went 5 innings. (I know and understand why that is, but until that number turns into quality starts he is no success story as a developed major league pitcher, on a personal level it is a huge success story for Bailey and he should be darn proud of what he has done and overcome.) If that is all we are looking for why did they ever get rid of the last FO, I mean names like Rogers, Pressly, May, Perkins, Gibson, Berrios, Duffey, Duensing, Swarzak, Guerrier, Diamond, Albers, Hendriks, Liriano, Blackburn, Baker, Slowey,

    I give Kudos for him facing Arraez, but I disagree it cheapens a no hitter, does Eric Milton's no hitter basically against a minor league team mean less? In high school I pitched my only no hitter in my life, and with one out in the 7th I unintentionally/intentionally walked the other teams best hitter (an all metro player) to face a kid that couldn't touch my stuff that day or any other time I pitched against him, he weakly hit a ball back to me and we turned a double play and I don't feel it means any less. A no hitter is always better than a one hitter no matter how you got there.

    It might not make sense, but history shows this to be true true statement, maybe the next few years will prove different (because of Covid) or asking so much less from starters in the past then now may change this as well but asking a older (in terms of baseball) pitcher to do something he hasn't done in the past usually is setting up failure. Maybe only asking these guys to go 5 or only face a lineup twice will greatly improve their odds of being major league pitchers or give them time to get their feet wet to become somebody that can go deeper. Some of these guys aren't much younger than Stephen Gonsalves and haven't done what he did in his early twenties in the minors and he is 28 pitching in AAA. I hope this group of Twins pitchers break the overwhelming odds, I am just not going to get overly excited about them doing it, am I cheering for that absolutely. Hopefully Varland can come up this year and do great in each 5 inning start and next year go further and in 24 he is top pitcher consistently pitching in the 7th or later. But if forced to bet real money, I am betting against all of them being anything more than a bullpen or 5 inning pitcher.

    In the last 12 games the longest he has went is 5 1/3, he isn't winning any games alone, let alone big games, but what he is doing is giving the twins 5 mostly decent innings and handing the second half of the game to the bullpen to finish it out. (Just over half of the time it is with 2 runs or less which is good) The Twins are 11 - 13 in his starts, which is better than Archer's 8 - 16 so there is that. It is kind of crazy that the two FA signings have the Twins at 19 - 29 and somehow they are still 3 games over .500 As for the 3 mentioned I agree with Theilbar and Urshela, not sure how a guy playing like Celestino would be underappreciated unless of course we are talking about how he is available to play everyday because he isn't hurt and not being hurt on the Twins seems like a pretty big deal.

    My post wasn't suppose to be a concern, but in the recent history (like last 30+ years) very few starting pitchers that debut after the age of 24 turn out to be top of the rotation starters (Nick Blackburn and Mike Clevinger debuted at 25 for example), lots of dominant bullpen guys debut at that age or later, so in general if you have an arm in the minors that hasn't debuted by age 25 the overwhelming odds say that guy will pitch out of the pen or have just a couple of decent seasons as a starter at best. Next year the Twins will have a 25 year old Varland, 26 year old Winder and 27 year old Ober fighting to just make the team in the pen with one maybe getting a starting job (Gray, Ryan, Mahle, Maeda and Paddack coming back) Now I think the Twins might looks to trade Gray for example which might open up a spot or even Mahle if he isn't happy here (not saying he isn't but if he is not), but I also see the Twins bringing in a Bundy/Archer type for depth. And While these guys are getting older the next group of younger, shinier guys will be here in no time, hopefully, fingers crossed. Nelson Cruz debuted at 24 but wasn't full time until he was 28 but was suspended at age 32 for role in the Biogenesis drug case so maybe not the best example?

    There ages don't matter, I was just pointing out at their ages shouldn't they dominate the minors? Varland is and Winder minus a few homers and if healthy probably would be in the big leagues. But I guess my comment was also about this "Must be fun being a Saints fan. " The Saints are under .500 with all these players, not sure how well that bodes for the Twins.

    This is not meant to be negative, but Balazovic will be 24 in just over a week, Dobnak is 27 1/2, Sands just turned 25, Winder will be 26 in just over a month, Varland will be 25 in three months, and Smeltzer will be 27 in two days, shouldn't guys in this age range absolutely be dominating AAA? The Marlins starting whole rotation for example is either 24 or 26 and Seattle and Houston each have 3 guys in this age range. With guys that the Twins and fans are excited about being in MPLS sooner than later I would expect domination from this group. (Varland is, and Winder has been good minus a couple of homers)

    I guess that is my bad because I thought the article was about - Did The Twins Manufacture a Top Pitching Prospect? He might be a Twins top pitching prospect, it will be interesting to see if he makes any top pitching prospects lists?

    I think calling a guy that possibly won't see the majors until age 25 - "Did The Twins Manufacture a Top Pitching Prospect?" is moving the goal posts. If he ends up making the Twins and being a good starting pitcher or relief pitcher that would be wonderful and credit should go to the FO and him, I am not trying to take anything away from him, just trying to be realistic on expectations. And as of now there isn't a spot in the 2023 rotation (Ryan, Gray, Mahle, Maeda, Ober, WInder) so either he starts in the minors or the pen and if he starts in the minors and comes up he will more than likely be a 4 - 5 innings starter which is fine but not what I define as Top Pitching Prospect.

    McClanahan basically spent 1 year in the minors at age 22, correct? and yes at 18, 19, 20 and even 21 Webb wasn't a workhorse but he was in the majors at 22 and by age 25 is averaging over 6 innings a start. You are 100% on the innings pitched in the minors, but when you tie innings to age you do get a different story. I don't expect SWR to pitch the same amount of innings at 21 that I would expect out of a older minor league pitcher ( I would expect he is working on completely different things), but if that doesn't jump next year, then the odds say he is just another pitcher. I will say the Twins for the most part treat their minor league starters like they do the major league starters, which IMO isn't a good sign for the Twins minor league pitchers to be an ACE type pitcher, are you really expecting Joe Ryan for example to average 6 plus innings next year? I hope he does, but I wouldn't bet on it, not because of his skills but the Twins philosophy. In Varland's case he is fighting crazy odds to become a better than average starter, if a starter at all, it just doesn't happen for guys that debut after the age of 24. (yes there are a few, but it is very, very rare and I hope he is the exception)

    How old was Pablo Lopez in 2017? That is right he was 21 and Varland will be 25 in December. deGrom is the odd one because he was so injured in the minors and didn't debut until he was 26 Scherzer debuted at 23 , Verlander at 22, Kershaw at 20, Gausmann at 22, Bieber at 23, Rondon 22, Cease at 23, Fried at 23, Alcantara at 21. Are these really they guys you are taking about, comparing a 24 year old to a 20, 21, 22 year old isn't the same. Also is it weird Varland started the 6th more in 21 than 22 and once even pitched 7 innings?

    He was a 15th round pick in 2019, what did I post that was negative(?) that he averages 5 innings a start at 24 years old in AA and AAA, aren't those facts? Of those 13 times he came out for the 6th he finished the inning 6 times and has 4 quality starts. I gave my opinion that I thought he would end up a relief pitcher and that it seems hard to develop top end starters when you treat the minors league pitchers like you treat the major league pitchers, is that a way out in left field take am I missing all the talent evaluators calling him the next McClanahan, Gilbert, Manoah, Webb types? He averages just over 22 batters faced, just over 5 innings and 85 pitches a game, do those numbers look familiar? They should because that is basically what the Twins major league starters do. I am not complaining about what the Twins are doing, it is what it is but to pretend that after he gets to the majors the Twins are going to do something completely different than what they are doing now seems a bit naive. I wish him the best of luck and hope I am wrong!

    I find it very hard to call an almost 25 year old that averages 5 innings in AA and AAA as a top pitching prospect. As a fan I hope he makes it and does well, but I find it hard to believe he will be anything more than relief pitcher how can you take a guy that you have held to 5 ish innings (not testing them with the TTO) in the minors to something more than that in the majors? To be honest I don't know how this team will every develop a top end starter with the limits they put on the minor league pitchers.

    First I would like to say I was very happy with the Twins moves, but Syndergaard has given the Phillies 30 2/3 in 5 starts (not the greatest numbers but innings have to mean something) as opposed to the 14 1/3 from Mahle, and Jordan Montgomery has 30 2/3 innings with 1.76 ERA and I would also say Robertson and Raisel Iglesias have been better than Fulmer or Lopez.

    I would argue it has be less about Covid and more about about injuries and development of their pitchers. Other teams have seem to deal with the Covid year much better.

    Tough question, the most innings he ever pitched is 115 in 2019, so would it take him a year or more to build up to a 150 inning pitcher? I can't see him being more than a 5 inning type pitcher next year, like Ober has been and would they really double his innings next year?

    To me the twins have to figure out SS ASAP, then they can make a decision on Urshela. If Correa leaves and the Twins decide Jose Palacios is the SS, I want nothing to do with Miranda/Palacios left side of the infield (what is Plan B to that?), with all the other unknowns (AK, Jeffers, Laranch, Lewis, ect....) If Correa Stays or they bring in another SS then I say give Miranda 3rd. At least Plan b can be Lewis.

    Is pointing out facts really negativity or more of a realist? He is really old for a top prospect, not hitting well at AAA, and not fast and not a great defensive outfielder. Plus very few players that turn out to be anything get to the majors at age 25 or older so most might temper their expectations based on these facts.

    The problem with is that Gallo at Wallners age already had over 100 MLB homers and and WAR of 10 and besides his age 27 season has been terrible since. Gallo was playing in the majors at age 21 and if Wallner doesn't come up this year he will be 25 at the start of next season, so I don't see how the two compare at all.

    That lineup looks terrible and the pitching staff doesn't do anything for me either, and did you leave Ober off for a reason?
