  1. I don't think this FO thinks it needs a top notch pitcher, I think they believe the team can succeed with Gray, Mahle, Ryan, Ober and handful of other starters (SWR, Varland, WInder, Maeda, and Paddock coming back) pitching to 22 to 24 batters faced a game. While I disagree with that, that is the conclusion I have came up with. Bringing somebody else in means Gray or Mahle has to go and after what they gave up to get those two I can't believe they would do that.
  2. Just to let you know you are asking 35 year old coming off of TJ surgery to things he basically has never done. 25 starts (he has done that 3 times), 160 innings (he has done that once) and have an ERA below 3.30 is something he only has done once and that was in 11 starts. We are asking or hoping for things from Maeda that he has never been outside of 11 starts and more than likely never will be. Just to put in perspective his 11 starts in 2020 weren't that much different than Smeltzer's first 9 starts last year.
  3. I could agree with that if he wasn't 26 and had a couple of years of 150 plus innings. He is a guy you ride and trade away with year and half of control for prospects.
  4. Why do they need more starting pitching? They have Gray, Mahle, Ryan (26), Ober (27), Varland (25), Winder (26), SWR (22) and Paddock (26) coming back. Then for depth they have Maeda, Balazovic (24), Henriquez (22), Sands (25), Headrick(25), Enlow (23). (That is 14 starters on the 40 man) That is why to me it was DeGrom, Verlander, Kershaw (all not real possibilities or Rodon and trade Gray or not bother with starters. They have given a rookie a job the last two years Ober and Ryan. They need to give another rookie(s) a shot this year. So unless they plan on trading Gray or Mahle and replacing them with an obviously better starter there is zero reason IMO to continue to let the prospects rot. For the love of gosh most of these guys aren't even young and teams aren't looking to trade for prospects older than their establised pitchers. Why in the world would Miami trade Lopez(26) for any of the guys close to his age? This is way the Twins should be spending big on offensive because they haven't developed crap on that side, but actually have done a decent job on the pitching side.
  5. Is the correct answer neither, let somebody else have the headache of hoping they get back to what they were a few years ago? But if you are going to make me pick, I probably pay Cody at tad bit more because he is 1 1/2 years younger. To me these are guys teams like the Tigers sign and if they get hot trade them at the deadline. I am not paying a prove it year deal without the option of picking up the next year.
  6. So who's fault is it the Twins aren't one guy away?
  7. The Twins has signed Vazquez, Gallo, Bundy, Joe Smith, Coulombe, and Archer the last two years and you think we are placing too much value on Correa? I think most fans didn't think the Twins would sign Correa once let alone twice, but with all the available free agents the last two years the list above is what the Twins signed. It is sickening (but hey the Twins have been in on Rodon both times he was a free agent) and because that is what they signed they traded away how much last year to get Gray and Mahle, and most still don't think they staff is good enough to compete (I actually do) and if they want to upgrade basically anywhere they have to trade even more. That is my frustration with the Twins.
  8. If this is the plan, this FO needs to go, besides one season this team has done nothing to prove they belong part of yet another rebuild.
  9. The Twins need to give the 5th spot to Winder, Varland or SWR. That would be three years in a row a rookie would be inserted into the rotation. Ober, Ryan, ? , Maybe a 2nd one steps up a forces the FO hand. That is how you build a pipeline, Then have another ready for 24 (Prieline, SWR?, Raya, Festa, Medina) somebody. then you look trade off Ober for prospects, then Ryan, and on and on. That way you can spend big money on offense and if some stud pitcher becomes available to help, you have the prospects to trade for them to make a run. Or one of those prospects that steps up on the pitching side is young enough (Not Ober, Ryan, Winder, Varland) you extend them for big money. So if you get something decent for Maeda now, trade him, not so sure on Gray just yet, maybe mid season type of deal.
  10. And the proof of that is the Twins record the last 5 years, oh wait.....
  11. Maybe they should have, or maybe they wanted SF to pay him 22 in a prove it year, so they could pay him 30 for 6 years, or maybe offer him less than somebody else and say they were in on him.
  12. 100% agree you can't live in fear and yet everybody wants to sign Rodon. I am just sick of waiting for the next prospect to come save the day, how long has it been since that has happened? You have the money know sign a stud and see what happens with the prospects and figure it out when they actually force their way onto the team.
  13. I would add there is no guarantee either of them will become everyday MLB players. One has had 194 at bats since the Arizona fall league in 2019 and had two majors knee surgeries and the other one has had 139 total minor league at bats. These are the two that people want to base the future of the Twins on, neither are really expected to have much if any impact in 23 so maybe 24? What if it takes a little longer than to be better than adequate?
  14. I would trade some low prospects for Sale, if healthy he would be the Twins best pitcher, No way I giving them anything of value.
  15. So based on Gausman (5/110) and Ray (5/115) last year, they probably could have gotten Rodon for 5/130ish, and now it's going to cost 30 million plus for 6 years. Seems like another win by the front office. Now I don't believe they will sign him and why would they when they have Gray, Mahle, Ryan, Ober and actual decent prospects close who are by no means young except SWR. That top 4 if healthy should be more than enough to compete in the division, the offense on the other hand is IMO no where near good enough to complete for anything. (Unless of course, the injury prone players don't get injured and the a few guys that we have been waiting for to actually be good; turn out to be good and Polanco and Kepler are close to the top of their game and I don't see Swanson solving any of those offensive issues) But hey we signed a platoon catcher so that problem is solved.
  16. Well they have won 78, 101, 36, 73, and 78 games in the last 5 years, and in the two years they made the playoffs didn't win a game the other year was a 60 game schedule, and 23 doesn't look like a better than .500 team. They got played by Correa, thus possibly keeping them out of other free agents, and now there is talk of paying Rodon more than if they would have just signed him last year, and how has the attendance been trending at Target field? So sure failure my be too strong, but on the other hand....
  17. I was wrong on a plan that would be higher than zero. ;)
  18. Mike read the question being asked? I gave an answer, it is the only legit thing they could do to bring in more fans in 23 IMO. Chances of it happening are zero, but there might not be any answer that is higher than zero. Unless they plan on trading Lee and Lewis for some super star(s), I don't think it will be hard to get a ticket to games in 23.
  19. How about the FO admitting they failed and lower ticket prices and running another get to know them campaign?
  20. If you are fine with another year like the last two, then by all means run Farmer out there everyday. If you hated the last two years and are sick and tired of this FO and the excuses they have for everything then no I am not fine with running Farmer out there for half the season and hoping with both hands fingers crossed that Lewis or Lee is the savior to all the Twins problems and that every other player that has been injury prone is no longer. Also the Twins have the money to spend now and we should be worried about them spending that in the future?
  21. Yea, the Twins signed a 32 year old platoon catcher, call me underwhelmed. Is he a nice piece to he puzzle? yes absolutely, without anybody else added does he change the current team, nope.
  22. If this is your belief this front office should be fired. We weren't promised a rebuild this far into their tenure we were promised sustained success. So after two terrible years under .500 and another one to two, good luck getting butts in the seats at target field next year. I will add this unless they figure out how to get on streaming they are going to end up like the wolves were people have given up being invested and cheer for them to be bad. (Not me but I know many people that actively cheer against the Wolves and I am starting to hear similiar jokes being said about the Twins)
  23. If the Twins can convince him to sign here and pitch in the bullpen it seems like a pretty good signing. If the Twins sign him to be a starter then just fire the FO. In his last 6 games he pitched an amazing 26 innings and the 6 games before that 27. 1/3. Lets compare Archer to him in his last 12 games (49 1/3) to 53 1/3. Heney is a guy that in the last 4 years has completed 6 innings a grand total of 22 times. There were 12 guys that had 21 or more quality starts just last year.
  24. That is the good thing about bringing somebody up at age 25, there is no reason to extend him. You ride him until there is a 1 1/2 left and trade him. That is the reason to have a pitching pipleline always replacing a guy with a younger cheaper guy.
  25. Thanks, fun list. Being an this list hasn't done much for anybody's career.
