There is no reason to ever have another conversation as the twins with the highest payroll in the American league central ... Detroit is over the 244 million threshold , they just signed Verlander and last week Valdez , will they win the central , they are definitely favored too but still have to play the games ... For years the twins had a payroll higher than all central teams and could barely win a central division ...

It's a sad state of affairs in twinkieville , when's it ever going to change ... I think ( bean ) stated the owners don't know how to connect to the right kind fans , they also don't know how to promote the identity of the twins ( past or present ) ... Have a Harmon Killebrew day , a Rod Carew day , Tony O day , kaat day , a Kirby Puckett day , Blyleven day and last Mauer day ... These players should be honored once a year , they are hall of famers that had great careers and grandfather's and dads can educate to their sons what great players the twins had .. They should have 3 world series days every year ( bring in some of the former players and let the fans mingle with them on the field a couple of hours before or after the game every year ) for 1965 participants ( there are still a few with us ) and 1987 winners and 1991 world series ...

It's also depressing that we continue to draft shortstops in the draft and we haven't found one to stick at that position in 9 years of falvey ... They're shortstop happy when drafting but lousy at developing them into a defensive shortstop and even lousier at developing that athletic shortstop at another position , the system under falvey was a mess ...

Twins should jump the line for this reliever.
Blyleven2011 replied to thelanges5's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The twins are desperate for good arms for the bullpen , have we really added a formidable pitcher yet ... Banda is a no brainer , if banda was a free agent this past off season , he would have already been plucked off the free agent market at a more substantial salary , It's a no brainer ... -
And at that time when stashak allowed those homeruns , Rocco was whispering to himself , oh well theres always next year ... Kinda wish these articles of falvey and Rocco would come to an end , they were both bad for the organization , they are gone , put it to rest ... I wonder if twins daily did a poll on who was a better general manager between Ryan and falvey. Who would the fans favor today ... Get busy TD , it would be a great debate amongst the TD fans ...

The Twins Underrated Path to Contention
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We've watched these underperforming underrated players for a few years ... Why would anyone expect the players on our position roster to have anything close to a above average year ... It could happen with some new enthusiasm from our new coaches and manager , play hard and have some fun , if they play hard with passion they will succeed ... Where has all the passion gone , where has all their inspiration to be ballplayers gone , it's a kids game they have been underperforming for some years ... We haven't had a passionate player since arraez and Polanco left , buxton shows some signs but not all the time ...- 60 replies

The Pohlads Set Derek Falvey Up To Fail
Blyleven2011 replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes the owners are bad business baseball people , when they inherited the team after their father Carl passed , they didn't really want it , didn't really like it or have a passion for it , but the brothers most likely got together and came to the conclusion that this was going to make them the money they have a passion for ... They really don't like the fans either , of course I have a passion for baseball and if I was like most owners , I'd want a legacy of a winning a world series for the fans , their legacy is being billionaires taking our money without giving anything back ... Now did the owners set Derek Falvey up for failure , that's up for a debate , Falvey did alot of things he shouldn't have and nevrr did a thing when he should have ... Example , 2023 he went out at deadline and yes he got terrible help , but we weren't really a contender that year in my opinion ( yes it was good baseball in 2023 but not good enough at deadline to trade for ) , in 2024 when we are contenders he stands pat at the deadline and twins fail down the stretch ... Know when to hold them and know when to fold them , that is where Falvey' failed ...- 51 replies

Falvey , just glad he's gone and his plan gone hopefully , he's rubbed me the wrong way ever since he was hired , his persona of always trying to be the smartest person in the room , never seemed loyal to the fan base . , but was definitely loyal to Rocco and the players he should have DFA'd ... I dont know if the next operations manager and their plan will be any better but they should only have one way to go , UP ... Play baseball with quality pitching offense and defense , get these players the development they need , if it's outside the organization as one poster mentioned Ryan going to driveline helped him develop from a 2 pitch pitcher ... Everyone wants a good game to watch, not a sloppy game of giving extra outs to the opponents and under Falvey and Rocco that is exactly what the offense and defense did with no change , some change came with the offense towards the end of 2025 ... Some will say it's the owners fault and I would agree to a certain extent , but they put there trust in the personal they hire and Falvey wasn't good at getting a big bang for the buck ...

Put the best 26 players on the roster going north , how many years in a row have they kept someone that didn't have a good spring and no options left and DFA other players and lost them to a waiver claim ... They got to do better and hopefully they will without falvey and Rocco playing their favorites ...
-
Twins claimed Kowar from Mariners and signed a minor league contract with Salazar , both pitchers ... I roster is going to look different for spring training , big Tom is trying to go big or Mrs Tom might not let him come home ... Nothing significant added today but maybe our guru pitching coaches can tweak something for some value ... Cody lawyerson was bumped from his current 40 man roster spot with a west coast team ...

One can dream but the chances of a player that commands a high salary are over until we get new owners ... The pohlads can't afford baseball anymore with the signings of ohtani and Soto , since these two have signed with dodgers and mets the pohlads have gone in the other direction , other than buxton , the only position player making more than 10 million on twins payroll isn't even on the roster ... They tried it with Donaldson and Correa , they have paid Puckett and others that were home grown to stay , Mauer they gave him a 8 year contract at 183 million , if the pohlads are going to stay in baseball , they need to pay our homegrown great players to stay .. One problem right now is " where are they "

Festa to the bullpen is a no brainer , he was shut down at end of season with the injury that turned out milder than they were expecting , so why risk further injury that could end his career if he is over worked ... Festa should already be penciled into the bullpen and our FO and manager should have told him he's going to pitch in relief so he can prepare his season ... Optimism , boy i hope we can win some games and the games will be exciting ... I sure hope the players are prepared to battle harder than ever before cause it's going to take alot of team work ( forget the organization , there a lost cause ) , will the players go into spring training with Optimism of winning or just Optimism on making the 26 man roster ...

More Questions Than Answers in the Twins Bullpen
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes the bullpen needs to be addressed but im not concerned as much about reshaping the bullpen with our surplus of pitching , whether it's a starter converted to a reliever im all for it ... My main concern is the rosters lineup , the lineup has to do better , alot of players need to have better seasons at producing , the twins lineup lacks discipline , failing to score from second or third with no out is a catastrophe , they lack the mental toughness to come through in the clutch ..- 21 replies

I don't know where to start ... I don't know where to end ... Definitely more bad than good for being the smartest person in the room ... His deadline trades were the worst at acquiring and the years he lacked on pulling the trigger and should have acquired players for a push to be better in the playoffs ...

Living on hope and prayer with falvey is no more , now we are living in reality, can the ownership right the sinking ship and hire the competent personal to construct a winning team in the future on a lower budget ... Milwaukee , Tampa , Cleveland have all done well with less payroll than the Twins and the ownership has probably questioned falvey as to why he didn't or couldn't adjust his spending on better players ( spending 11 million on gallo still amazes me ) , nine years it took to find a acorn by a blind squirrel , Bader, France and Colombe , Bader was fun to watch play defense , France for 1 million was a steal , Coloumbe performed well out of the bullpen ... Last year's fun players to watch were Buxton , Bader , Keaschall and maybe Martin , we need better players to make twins baseball fun to watch again ...

It takes a whole organization of strength to make up a good team , owners , FO , players , coaches , this we haven't seen for quite sometime ... We haven't had any sort of identity for quite sometime ... Our starting pitching is our strength and pitching wins games , but a weak bullpen as of now will lose those games , the young power arms we have could surprise us more than the dumpster diving arms ... We have some starters that won't make the 5 man rotation , some we need as depth in AAA but some others that have injury concerns could be moved to the bullpen and monitored on pitching to remain healthy ... Will the bullpen thrive with these young arms in the bullpen, only time will tell , pitching is our strength as of now and that's all we can rely on , defense and offense is another story let's hope our players worked hard during the off season to better themselves ...
