    Great debut for the kid. He has some easy power to have launched that homerun off that pitch/swing. I really hope we have a season next year of getting to see this next wave get their chance.

    We have a middle of the pack offense driven by multiple unsustainable aspects. Trading Jax for Bradley is a great example of why we should've dealt Ryan for Tolle and Arias and why Lopez should've been moved as well. I'd feel a helluva lot better about 2027 and forward if we had. Now? They are going to need a lot to go right to even pretend they are contenders. Starting with the lottery.

    They don't have to be worried about being WS caliber starters since there isn't (and won't be) nearly enough talent around them to ever sniff the WS. Also....are you suggesting you'd trade Bradley for Jax? I'm confused by that remark since the opposite is true for virtually everyone and runs counter to your point.

    Buxton, Clemens, and Jeffers also should be mentioned. This team's offense was always going to be closer to the dregs than the best in the league. Regression hit hard.

    This team has been 4ish game under .500 for pretty much the entire year. Going from 4 to 8 is now a "collapse"? Breaking News: "Not good team plays not well in the second half, more at 10!"

    I mean, this is the question put less abstractly: 31 year old, coming off an entire missed season (Lopez) and Ryan (last year of team control, another dud second half) vs. Franklin Arias (consensus top 10 prospect in all of baseball), Payton Tolle (and his top tier stache), and whatever you could've gotten from Lopez. This is about as "duh" as it gets. I'll brace myself for the downvotes from the senile and deeply delusional members of our board now.

    I'm happy to see this. Buxton was not himself with this injury and trying to play through it neither helped him nor the team.

    I guess Zebby Matthews is exactly the kind of guy I'd like to invest 30 starts in next year as part of an investment in the future.

    Agreed. If not in 2028, in some future year. The game isn't healthy right now and there is somewhere between a third and half of the league who would have little value to a potential streaming purchaser. The NFL has no such issue. Netflix, Peacock, Fox, they fall over themselves to broadcast anything from the Dallas Cowboys to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The NBA broadcast partners definitely want the elite teams, but they are also happy to broadcast up and coming stars and other marketable aspects of teams like the Dallas Mavericks. Baseball has shuttered itself into regional islands where some regions are 800 pound financial gorillas and others are sucker fish. I'm not eager to lose a season, but I sure as hell am eager to right the wrongs of the balance of the league.

    I agree, in fact I'd go one step farther - it should be met. Agreeing to those five things, in the short and the long term, is better for both sides. I'm not even sure you can quantify the long-term benefit of putting the league's finances and competitive balance on better footing...but it sure seems like the NBA and NFL have thrived since doing so.

    I also put revenue sharing at the top of the list for what needs to come out of these negotiations, I just don't see a path forward where you can get all owners and the MLBPA to agree to a structure without all of the following: 1) Nearly perfectly equitable revenue sharing, especially of media rights (if this doesn't happen, none of the rest matters) 2) A cap to insure that the above agreement is honored without shady BS where teams generate revenue that isn't part of the agreement or use their local advantages to find a new way to get ahead of others. 3) A floor to insure that shared revenue is spent 4) Rigorous rules about how the money is spent so that the cap and floor are purely player spending and not other shenanigans 5) Aggressively more player freedom and movement with reduced team control/manipulation tactics. I think any one of those things not in the picture will cause some faction at the negotiating table to back out or complicate things. I have low optimism they can all be achieved and agree with @The Great Hambinothat we are likely looking at some monstrosity like the NBA or nothing notable at all and the can gets kicked down the road.

    I think structuring it like the NHL makes a lot of sense. They structure based on age where the youngest players have the longest control and there is a sliding scale as the player ages. It doesn't make sense for a 4 year college player and a high schooler to have the same level of team control IMO. Something like 5 years for anyone 19 or younger on draft day, 3 years for anyone older would work well. That would guarantee that any player would be able to hit free agency by the age of 25. A massive increase in their ability to market themselves and make money.

    It's hard to call yourself a legit hall of fame and not have Lorenzo Neal and Mike Alstott having a wing dedicated to the scariest backfield in human history.

    Clemens has been wonderful value. One thing to point out though is that he does have a shortcoming that is solely his responsibility: He's not a good defender. Playing him at 2B is probably a net win overall for the team if he hits like he has been, but any dip at the plate and the negatives in the field will take over that value.

    I was told that Tom Pohlad stood before legions of Minnesotans, lifted his sword in the air, declared us "contenders", and a mighty roar went up from the casuals. So inspired were they by this man who knows no half measures, who sunk a whole 8 million dollars - 8 million!!!! - that they charged after him in droves to fill Target Field with their battle cries! Articles at Twinsdaily made me think it looked something like this on that fateful day of August 2nd... Was....was I lead astray?

    Managers are mostly not relevant in baseball. I'm glad he had good vibes, most guys get that reaction early in their tenure. His problems remain the same as the ones we've seen for years: His team didn't have good fundamentals. They play poor defense. They still can't run the bases - both as effective baserunners or in terms of stealing bags He pinch hit and used the bullpen pretty much the same way Rocco did The flaws listed above that his team has are organizational ones. He neither conjured up magic to help the team nor any magic to gloss over those flaws. The team didn't exceed expectations, they just had a hot month and a half due to really lucky sequencing and RISP performance from guys like Gray, Caratini, Larnach, Clemens, etc. A totally flukey, unsustainable, non-Shelton related cause. So...yeah. Stay. Or don't. It doesn't matter much. He seems like a good dude though.

    Maye looked rough tonight. I know it's hard to play in Seattle and that defense is legit...but he made some hideously bad plays.

    A lot of fantasy owners got thoroughly burned by this. I did my last draft last night and there wasn't a peep about this for a guy going in the second round. I know we're not supposed to talk about how injuries effect things like gambling and fantasy...but the NFL makes a crap ton of money off those ventures. One of these days they have to do something about this secretive BS about player health. Surprise, devastating injuries are one thing...this feel like it was deliberately kept quiet.
