    Yeah, I was being too harsh probably but I just don't know how a team that gets so little power from so many spots in their lineup can afford to have a 1B with low power as well. I could be convinced to stick with him if we saw Culpepper, Jenkins, and a DH come up and inject the lineup with more life.

I imagine this: C : Caratini (hard meh) 1B Lewis (totally replacement level at this point) 2B Culpepper (where he goes long term) SS: God help us if they are on the roster now 3B Lee (Actually solid!) LF Keaschall (This or trade) CF Buxton (Need backup) RF Jenkins This team could really use some non-crappy sluggers ar 1B and DH. Though we get ever closer to Buck being the full time DH.

    All transactions are bets on future outcomes. Given that we largely get outscored and are staring a big, fat -36 run diff in the face.... I know where my money is, :)

    Yeah, contention to me is winning your division or, I don't know, being above .500. Call me old school but I don't think you can have a serious conversation about being a contender when you've spent less time above .500 than the Vikings have spent in pads this year.

    Well, in my case, I'd have used the stretch run to answer some questions about players in AAA or in their mid 20s that we need more information on for future decision making rather than pretending this team is a contender. So dealing him wouldn't have been an issue for me.

    Agreed, Abreu wouldn't have been the type of target I'd have had for that deal.

    For me the issue is that I think this was the sell high moment on Larnach. He's a corner guy with limited power and bad defense. This was the time to cash that chip. But you're right, he represents an ongoing problem we have of a 26 and 40 man roster bloated with low flexibility or low upside or both type of guys.

    Why not both? It's hard in the sense that there is such an uphill battle to climb and the vast majority of people who used to pay attention are tuned out. Which is why words and a flimsy deadline are a silly thing for us to have four articles gushing about the Pohlads and the deadline. Most fans don't care. Which is also why here, on TD, it seems to be easy. We've got multiple ongoing threads that are gross as hell falling all over themselves to be happy about this. Thing is....the folks who want to be all sunshine and rainbows right now would have been right there in front of their TV, or sitting in the stands, whether the team bought or sold. The venn diagram of "happy we didn't sell" and "wouldn't have done anything to hold the team accountable either way" is a perfect circle.

    Cool. Get back to me in February when we see how much this was actually delivered on. If Vegas let me bet on this I'd still take the under on 130 million.

    Man, baseball needs to consider a late July/Early August transaction window where teams can move players around to each other so that teams with a redundant roster could move parts to better fit what they're trying to accomplish and plug holes. We really could've used one of those.

    It feels like whatever fan goodwill is supposedly created by this "buy" is going to be evaporated really, really quickly if this team buries itself before September.

    I'd have an easier time finding some satisfaction in this without these articles. I'm so glad @The Great Hambino has weighed in on these threads with more straight-forward, well-articulated thoughts than I would. I got second hand "eww" reading this. This is some seriously gross PR for a deadline that was pretty "meh"

    I don't understand how we're serious contenders AND playing a guy who has never played CF.....in CF. He's a LF or he's not on this team in the future, it's that simple from where I sit.

    Do these moves feel forceful and decisive? 2022 felt decisive and forceful. This felt....fine. Isn't that what a half-measure is? Why are we falling all over ourselves to be happy with this? Here's the thing: there are a bunch of people telling us they are happy we didn't sell because it sends the right message. It's cool to think that. Why do we have to pretend it's anything more than that? This is a half measure. It's not some ground-breaking investment. It just wasn't selling. That's it. The most forceful thing about this deadline is the folks here who want to heap praise on these actions.

    I think Lee has proven himself. We found his spot and I expect to see him grow. Keaschall I can handle as an OF but we have to see the bat come around again a bit more. I think it's time to cut bait on Lewis. He's just not hitting enough to justify holding down 1B
