  1. Cherry picking years to benefit your argument is poor form in all cases. Garver shouldn't be reduced to 2020, but it makes far less sense to reduce Gray to his 2016 or 2018.
  2. Lol. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/pedro-florimon/8385/stats?position=SS https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/floripe01.shtml
  3. Baseball reference had IFK's WAR at 3.7; Fangraphs had it 2.3. At least you're doubling down on the disingenuousness with the Florimon reference. Sonny Gray has been a top 30 pitcher over the past three years.
  4. GG caliber short stop and Top 30 starting pitcher aren't bald spare tires. Come on, that's disingenuous.
  5. Cueto AND Pineda, and we've got a semblance of a staff.
  6. What? Bundy? They bought low on Bundy, I'm sure they view him less as a placeholder, and more of a cheap gamble. But the logic of signing free agents to promote minor league development is creative, if baffling.
  7. How is not spending money playing for the future? I just don't see the logic here.
  8. Not to be rude; but how old are you? Clearly hitting them where they ain't isn't always a repeatable skill, right? That's luck. That's why we discount batting average, and prefer other statistics which measure repeatable skill, and a fuller representation of offensive output.
  9. Literally no one. No one made those arguments. And if they did, plenty of people who supported Kaepernick would correct them. Did Kaepernick ever get his job back? Does Simmons still have one? Hmm.
  10. You don't think Simmons is implying that the vaccine isn't effective? Because I can't read it any other way. What the heck is the antivax movement but mob thinking? (Reliance on other people agreeing with me, rather than expert opinion, science or peer reviewed research). Seriously. Kettle meet pot.
  11. Had he simply stuck to this position, this thread would not exist. Some months later, he's not only not advocating for it, it seems he's advocating against it, which isn't at all a personal position.
  12. The sentiment is largely correct; but the government can't censor nearly any speech save for some small carve outs--typically that which causes others dangers (hate speech, fire in a theater) or time and place (you can say that, but just not hear and not right now). As you suggest, one of the true safeguards of the first amendment is to ensure citizens can criticize the government.
  13. Where's the post where you are telling Simmons to stick to sports?
  14. You didn't get it. Your comments on Rosario are equally irrelevant to the current discussion.
  15. How do you feel about the trade for Delmon Young?
  16. Whether or not it was the right move or the wrong move, we clearly don't have enough evidence to assess the question with less than a week's worth of at bats. Sample size is a thing everyone.
  17. Guys who have contributed in the past, like Cave and Dobnak (esp. whom they are committed long term) are going to get a lot of rope to hang themselves, as should be the case. A prospect like Duran or Balazovic would never be the next man up for a bullpen role; those guys need starter's innings.
  18. There's a lot of risk in not signing him to a long term deal now. If he merely stays healthy this year, his leverage will sky rocket. Sign him now; his talent is worth the risk of injury.
  19. Looks like a good trade from depth to get a young, controllable pitcher, with options and at least one plus pitch. Wes Johnson work your magic.
  20. I imagine we'll see a lot of moves like this, as the Twins, and all teams, are super cost-adverse. I'm fine with it. Through enough crap against the wall, something sticks. Though that's unfair because his 2019 was stellar, and 2020 is well what it is.
  21. So how does signing undrafted free agents work now? Is there any limitations on bonuses?
