  1. Isn't it just sad that we are even in a position as an organization that we are supposed to get excited about a fourth or fifth string catcher in Godoy? If the FO doesn't significantly improve this major league roster in the next two weeks how does 95-100 losses sound? We made one good addition in Gray. The jury is still very much out on the rest. The current roster is a mess. Come on Twins. Finish what you started. Or is what you started only to reduce payroll and not be competitive?
  2. I have no real expectations for Sanchez. It's becoming more and more apparent that the Twins are not even going to make an attempt to be respectable! We gave the Yankees their starting third baseman and shortstop for the season and took on two players they don't even want. So we are supposed to get excited by signing a 27 year old catcher that no one else wanted that was put on waivers by the other team? I haven't seen any indication yet that they are going to spend any of the payroll they saved since starting to dump salary last year with Berrios and Cruz. As of tonight my confidence is very low for the next couple of years. Please Twins, prove me wrong and invest in payroll
  3. I hope it works out well for Sanchez here but I am skeptical. I am not at all surprised dumping Donaldson salary. Statistically he gave pretty much what was expected of him. Injuries yes. But didn't Buxton stay off the field more than on it the past 7 seasons? On paper it looks like we got fleeced. I believe Sanchez has hit .178 over the past two seasons. He is also statistically rated the worst defensive catcher in the American League. We seem to have depleted an area of strength in catching to an area of concern. We gave the Yankees their starting third baseman and shortstop. For what? An obvious salary dump. If more moves are not forthcoming to strengthen the Twins roster,. This FO has got to go. Unless of course it's a Pohlad mandate. Then they will be here forever. Bottom line for us Twins fans is the team just sells us prospects and hopes and now change of scenery. Good grief!
  4. I hope he does well. But I just don't see it. The fact that they are already giving him a spot in the bullpen is troubling. Surely they must have some better candidates. The pitching staff is still a mess and keeping Thorpe doesn't make the staff any better, just desperate.
  5. Gray is a great addition since it didn't really cost us much. No a number one 18 year old high school pitcher is not a great asset. He could be good in the future. But very few of them ever make it. Now when you look at Gray at the top of the rotation it's fine. But the others lined up behind him on a major league starting staff is a joke and a potential disaster. The roster as currently constructed looks no better than a 5th place team. Let's hope additions are made SOON!
  6. If the Twins don't add anymore players of significance then it's obvious we are in an owner mandated salary dump. .I fully expect 2-3 more significant moves. Wouldn't it make sense to do them soon while spring training is on?
  7. Cruz and Berrios could easily be called salary dumps. Those two moves freed up over 20 million last year. It's just my opinion but that's what I call it. Not irrationality any more than your irrational comment
  8. Who knows what the FO will do. Listening to Falvey try to explain things adds to the confusion. He himself states he doesn't know where this is all going. Ever since the Twins trader Berrios and Cruz for inexperienced and cheap prospects, the salary dump has been on. Let's hope there is a plan here to add more players.
  9. At this point the trades are confusing. There has got to be more coming. If not then this FO has to go. If they are under directive to cut payroll by ownership then ownership should be happy. If they are not then it's plain strange. We have very little catching, no ss, need more starting pitching, and bullpen help. This team today on paper is a joke. Let's hope they fix it up.
  10. Major payroll reductions. And roster confusion. Remember, twins are not required to spend the significant payroll savings. With a payroll under 100 million and revenue sharing they will come out great financially. I hope they reinvest the savings but since the salary dumping started last year with Berrios and Cruz and now the recent trades, it's either moves to clear salary for future moves or just as likely a salary purge and a deep rebuild. Yuck
  11. The Donaldson salary dump at this juncture has created a roster mess. I hope the great Byron Buxton can pitch and catch lol. I have been saying for months that I think the twins COULD be on a salary purge. I think the trade begs other moves. People assume and understandably so that there is 30- 40 million to spend. Going back to salary dumps of Berrios and Cruz for prospects and the recent moves has thus far created roster holes and major pa
  12. It will be fun to see where this all ends. I'm hoping and assuming there is more to come because we still have some big holes and some newly created ones. Everyone talks about having 30 to 40 mill in payroll to spend. Hopefully that's true. But it's just speculation. .let's hope trading Donaldson was to free up payroll for other transactions. Let's hope it isn't just a salary dump.
  13. I like the fact we are not stagnant. Rumors are strong that salary was moved to be able to sign a player or two. I hope that's the case and that these moves aren't just a salary dump. We still need more pitching and apparently a shortstop. I saw a rumor on MLB that twins had already signed story but are waiting results of a physical. Some of those same reports indicate he may need tommy John in the future due to elbow injuries. Just a lot of rumors I guess. Also a rumor twins have no interest in keeping Sanchez and may flip him in another trade. Whatever happens it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
  14. Very good move for the Twins. Still need one or two more reliable starters. Like many of you have said the twins probably won't be contending this year. But at least it appears they may be trying to put a major league team on the field. I certainly hope so. I have no problem at all trading a prospect. He may be great, he may never play in big leagues. I see nothing wrong with trading a young unknown and inexperienced high school prospect for a proven major league starter. Good job Twins!
  15. I'm ambivalent about the trade. I guess time will tell. It does kind of show a pattern going on for the year. That is we don't care about fielding a major league team in 2022. It also shows that we are probably seeing a significant payroll dump in progress. Garver, although not perfect by any means, was a veteran presence behind the plate. It's a little ironic that while depending on unproven and inexperienced young arms we trade away the only real veteran catcher we had to help settle in these pitchers. I also find it almost amusing that people say Garver was injured too much so it's good to get rid of him. The same and more could be said of Buxton yet people call him a superstar though he seldom plays. This year I think Buxton plays a whole year but will be a huge disappointment at the plate. Most notable national publications are calling the twins pitching staff a joke at this point. But will be embarrassing if these pitchers are all we have this year. I think the FO is making a statement on a rebuild. I just hope it doesn't last for years like the previous ones.
  16. Great to be back to Twins Baseball!! I am most interested to see what the FO does to the roster in such a short time. I would expect them to add a veteran or two to the starting rotation. To go into the season with minor league pitchers and Bundy as your rotation would be foolish and disastorus. I'm excited to see what we will add. Go Twins!
  17. I'm glad it's settled!! However the process has left a very bad taste in my mouth. MLB and the Twins in particular are going to have to earn back interest from the fans that are sceptical. Do the owners and players really care about the fans? Prove it. Are the Twins going to attempt to put a major league product on the field? Are the Twins really going to settle in at a payroll around $88 million as reported elsewhere? I'm very happy to have baseball back. I hope the Twins Front office is too.
  18. Such a sad state of affairs! Players and owners bickering over money that most sane people drool over. I've been a longtime twins and MLB fan but am very disgusted about the direction of these negotiations and baseball in general. I never thought I would say this but I'm getting to the point that I don't care if they come back. Now granted at some point they will agree and baseball will return. But at what cost? Will the greedy owners and players only be concerned about lining their pockets and not care about the state of the game itself? Or will the real cost be alienating an already fragile and declining fan base. It appears they don't really don't care about the game or it's fans.
  19. Love all the comments and well thought out and researched ideas out there. I agree with all of the views. My view is not very analytical ( I hate it in baseball. It's ruining the game) it just always seems the fans are left out in the cold. I've followed MLB for nearly 60 years and the last several years the game has become unwatchable. It's like watching a giant video game. Bring back the game we all used to love. I found many other things to do in the covid shortened year in 2020. They will resume play at some point. How many more fans will they alienate and turn away from the game? It's obvious neither the players or owners care. That's the fatal flaw here. It could be disastorus.
  20. While I will find other endeavors while this ridiculous lockout continues I am totally frustrated with MLB and PLayers Association. Owners claiming "poverty " over the past 5 years is ludicrous. If your franchise isn't profitable or lining your greedy pockets enough, sell it. Players, who in my opinion have the best CBA and working conditions of the 4 major sports, don't like their working conditions and are claiming " poverty " get a different career. Go out and get a real job. We have a joke for a commissioner, and a joke of a players union. The real folly is that both sides seem to think we cannot exist without their sport. Your fan base has been dwindling for years and tv ratings continue to drop. The game, with all it's new rules defensive shifting and overdone analytical approach to the game has already made it unwatchable.
  21. It's ridiculous. If the owners aren't making enough (absurd) then they should sell their franchises. They don't sell because they know they are too valuable. If the players don't feel like they are making enough money or don't like their working conditions get a different job there is plenty out there. We know that won't happen, they already have the best CBA in sports. The game has become unwatchable as it is. The time is now to work together quickly to resolve this situation. Then maybe they can fix the game and return it to a watchable game at an affordable price.
  22. Great comments Nick. I am already sick and tired of this public bickering on how to split billions in revenue. MLB has been in trouble for the past few years with lower attendance and tv viewership. Not to mention the mockery this once great game has become. To lose any regular season games shows me that neither side realizes, or cares, about how very fragile their diminishing fan base is. I for one anyway is just about done with MLB. After 60 years of proudly supporting MLB there is not much more left of the once heralded " grand old game"
  23. Well let's see how he does in the majors as a regular everyday player. I agree he has potential. Probably the best potential of all the over- hyped prospects we have. I hope it works out. These people need to show some results. Potential:. That's been the Twins theme for years. That's all they have to sell anymore.
  24. Wow what a dismal year this may turn out to be. If the Twins don't make any significant upgrades to their pitching staff it's likely to be 90-100 losses again. Hope at least a couple of these great prospects turn out to be solid major league pitchers. If not it could be a long year and long few years of rebuilding again.
  25. Twins are in a world of hurt if this is a "fix". The Twins live on pipe dreams, prospects, has been, and what if players for years. And year after year most fans fall for it and accept it. Our beloved owner was one of the owners that unanimously decided to turn their back on their dwindling fan base and initiate a work stoppage! Why do we support such nonsense in the first place?
