    It is not predictions as much as it is looking at recent past performances and outcomes. Baseball the inference between good and great can be very fine. Start starting pitchers have clunkers. A mediocre pitcher has the only perfect game in baseball history. Batters have 0fers and OPS 1.000 for series. Never know when it is going to happen. You were mostly right with the competent pitcher, but they do have to have the fortitude to rise a little higher.

    After Kershaw came off the DL he wasn’t the same pitcher. Javier had a poor season. His prior seasons were more than just a capable pitcher

    I suppose the front office could have not signed Santana and Margot and non tendered Farmer so they had money for deadline deals. Of course if the Padres don’t make a deep run in the playoffs is moving half of your top prospects worth it

    So many years with lack of playoff success and the fans haven’t figured out one pitcher alone will not do it. Two pitcher will not do it.. A team needs three capable starters

    If you are talking about loser mentality you would be talking about yourself.. what part of oft injured did you not understand.? Alcala was injured in 22 and 23.

    It would look to me to be workload management There seems to be a lot of pitchers getting on the worn down side after pitching more innings than they ever have before. That is what happens when you have a staff of either developing or oft injured pitchers

    Batting fifth or sixth is no different than earlier in the lineup. They would be reduced stress if they were batting in the number 8 and 9 slot. If two runners get on in the first inning, and have not scored the pressure is on the 5 hitter if there are still runners on when 6 comes up, there is still pressure. After the first inning the exact place in the lineup becomes less relevant. Without the 40-50 HR type ibatting cleanup, the cleaning crew falls to the next hitters

    There are ways to look at things statistically that really have no bearing on reality

    Not that I know anything too much about this guy but averaging =g about a hit every in inning, a all every other and a strikeout an inning, it might be safe to say he has a control issue.. when he has to aim closer to the center of the zone bad things can happen.. maybe the coaching to increase velocity and spin will help the control. Maybe he has to spend a little of what is left on his signing bonus on outside coaching.

    The Reds traded Haijar for Benson. Benson has been a starting OF for them.

    Casey has been called back up. He has not had great success at the major league level but there are plenty of people here who would contend that is also true for Farmer

    Event hitter in college. He hit pretty good in the Cape Cod League. In A ball he is having adversity with his hitting. It might be his first time dealing with that. Ego can be a problem.. It looks like all he wanted to do was go home. Unfortunately he chose the wrong way to go about it.

    The notion that an organization that has theories on how the game should be played wouldn’t hire a like minded coach seems to escape people. The front office is loathe to ever admit they made a mistake. Baldelli is not going anywhere unless the FO is going out the door before him or friction develops because Baldelli does like what the front office does. The people who say the team is young probably should be stating that the core talent is relatively inexperienced. Semantics always end up getting in the way.

    5 years since he has played a full season, and then not one that went into the middle of October. He wont change that this year. Tired from a grind in your 20s as an elite athlete? There is something wrong there. Add the disgruntlement over playing 2b that would be 2 strikes against him

    Fielding percentage does not take into account the number of plays that you don’t make but could have if the player was a better fielder. It also penalizes trying to make the hard play and failing but rewards not even trying

    Marcus Semien is a Boras client who got paid very well to play 2B. Position doesn’t matter. It has been 5 years since Lewis has played in over 100 games. If that trend continues that will be his biggest deterrent to the huge contract.

    Kepler outside of 2019 has not had sustained way above average numbers. He fits in the category of good player, not great. He was never going to get the mega contract as a corner outfielder. He will probably find a one year deal in the 10 million range. The ifs of a carryover from the last half of last year are counting on an outlier year. There are far more regressions to their mean than sustaining the outlier year in their 30s
