  2. The front office was still adding multi million dollar contracts in spring training to get to last years high payroll. In terms of trusted sources I do remember a deal a few years ago was going to be done in 24 hours bringing back multiple prospects for Dozier. Mud repeated.
  3. After Harper there would be hoping Brantley could stay healthy or players that hope they can overcome old age.
  4. From the where are we now thread there was the report they were looking at the medicals and dollars of 3-4 players. To those curious as to who those players were, they found out 2 of them. The aged and aging veteran MI available and preferred by many here would be more likely to be looking for security in a contract. Length is security. With Gordon and Lewis coming it is not unreasonable for the front office to look at one year players. A one year player in free agency is going to have a few warts. For Schoop it is a slightly lower than average OBP but he has a higher woba for is career. Woba, if the stat guys are correct, is a little more indicative of runs scoring than OBP Schoop having a bounce back year or better will be adequate at 2b. He likely will not be as good as Murphy or Lowrie, but his contract reflects that. If they use the money to sign back end RP rather than 5th inning players hoping to be back end pitchers the club will be ahead. That was IF.
  5. I did not know that 129+ million contracts or releasing them was even a remotely reasonable option for Buxton or Sano . no matter how you try to spin it that sort of argument is not the same.
  6. August of 14 through the end of May in 16. doesn't count as an injury?
  7. Live long and prosper. You will need to waiting for Portland to get an MLB team. Portland did not support the PCL team. Considering there wasn't that big of drop in attendance for a northwest league team located in the remote suburb, the chances of getting a team with a fan base of 3-4 thousand people is remote. About as remote as the Twins signing Harper and Machado.
  8. Simply put the report says something they have done.. It may reflect all they are going to do, it may not. It all depends on how you choose to see it. They brought in a lot of players last year. Given their ages Cruz and Lowrie may well be 1 year signings with options
  9. The Twins asking for medicals and $ for 3-4 players looks like bullpen and MI fishing. They could be looking at players in need of a rebound year to increase their value. Any of the non tendered players also might fit this description.
  10. To reach a record payroll the FO signed a team record number of free agents Of that group the bargain basement Duke had the best season. Complaining about total payroll spending is missing the issue. The Twins could have a record payroll and be worse than 2018 if the money is not well spent.
  11. no he had1 great season, pedro florimon away from Coors field
  12. It means that he was overused 3 seasons.
  13. Reed has pitched a lot of games per year. Most pitchers break under that load. The hard part is knowing when.
  14. 2027 is a long ways away. Media could be totally different
  15. Gordon would be included in a trade
  16. Might be good to have a player with a little fire and cares about winning.
  17. Segura has a full no trade clause. His fairly team friendly contract would have to get renegotiated. It would likely end up a team unfriendly contract. He would likely wait for Machado to sign before approving/renegotiating a contract
  18. That some would call Dozier "the face of the franchise" is to not see Mauer. The return for Dozier will likely be as productive for De Leon Given the money owed Grenke, the return for him would be similar to Dozier.
  19. Kapernick had a good year, got a good contract for that time. That his team was close to the Superbowl was as likely a peak for the receiving corps and Frank Gore as the qb play. No Gore or Crabtree, Davis and Bolden peaked and then the team can't win with Kapernick
  20. McCoy got a 2 year 7m deal. Kaepernick walked away from a 4.5 for one year deal. I doubt that he would have signed even a Colt McCoy deal. In a hard cap league comparing the two when one wouldn't have signed for what the other is paid is moot. Had Kaepernick played out the contract and not beat out Hoyer he has no Nike deal, no victim platform. Don't forget that keynote and motivational speaking are great paydays that do not involve getting hit in the head. Remember that that Kaepernick lost time to the likes of Gabbert, an NFL starter's job for essentially a failed quarterback without pedigree of college hardware or first round pick.
  21. Which 15 teams does Grienke block? It would almost be a given that he would not have to block known cash strapped teams like Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Oakland or Miami. and probably the Royals. Detroit could be added with their 2 bad contracts. Money flow seems to be effecting the Mets and Rockies. The chances are the Twins would be on the blocked team list. Grienke has already made over 200 million and has 200 more coming with deferred money. I don't think offering him a little more money will appeal him to join a sub 500 team.
  22. Dozier's maximum value was Jose De Leon.
  23. Kaepernik will not sign with any team. It is a bad business decision for him to do so. Other than one year the 49ers had mediocre results with him. That is why they went a different direction. Kepernick plays mediocre football there goes his lawsuit. It would prove why teams would have offered a reduced contract like Denver did, or a pittance like Pete Carroll did. Carroll did him a favor by withdrawing the offer. Carroll likely has no love for the NFL administration with the number of fines he gets.
