    Given their injury history it would seem foolish to count on Topa or Stewart for anything more than that it is a bonus that they are healthy. I thought the discussion in the recent past was Jax to starter. So if the team trades Duran for a catcher to start it could leave a hole in the bullpen. The Dodgers would have to also take a player of excess contract for the Twins for Margot being worse than. Expected.

    Gasper was on the Boston 40 man roster. They need a spot for the pitcher they signed.. Had they not traded him they could have DFAd him and lost I’m on a claim by the Twins. I am not sure why the Twins needed to give up something. The year before every team passed on Gasper in the rule 5 major league portion. Boston took him in the minor league portion.. it is not like there would be a demand

    There would be a premise that someone would want Vazquez at 10 million and not McCann at somewhat less money. When Jansen and Sanchez can get 8.5 million McCann can probably be close to that. It makes no sense to shuffle catchers

    The announcement does not mean that anything happened suddenly. After 30 some years they might have figured out that everything has to fall just right to go out on top. There are many factors that could cause them to want to sell. Many in the family not being interested is one good excuse put forth, The future of baseball as a cash cow for the family is another. The eventual failure of RNS being the large profit center for mid market teams could be a good reason to sell. Could there be other business losses to cover? Possibly. Possibly they see a better return for the money elsewhere. Owning a business valued at over 1.5 billion and have people pillory the family for wanting a profit from it is probably not enjoyable.

    The notion that having contracts on the books is a bad thing is a false premise. Having bad contracts on the books is a bad thing for a mid market team regardless if there is a sale or not. A long term contract is a risk reward kind of thing. Correa’s contract is through his age 34 season. That is not an unreasonable length of time. There is always the risk for injury. Trevor Story has had his share of structural injuries Wrist fracture, elbow then labrum in each of the last three years. Those are unforeseeable occurrences. . That is part of the risk of baseball, not bad contracts Stanton has also been part of injuries affecting his career. Bad contract is paying a corner outfielder 75 million without having a recent great reason, the Cano contract that was to be into his 40’s when the aging curve for middle infielders are done by 35 The absence of contracts of players that are going to be part of the core going forward actually costs the new owner money. They can depreciate the contracts over time. Unlike the depreciation on the team, there is no paying later when the team is sold. The maximal tax rate is what? 30% ? On 100 million 30 million gets paid by the taxpayer.

    Yes, some fans need to have trades for the sake of trades. It becomes a new person to mock, hate or cheer for. The people then can lament for years how great the player traded was while complaining about the replacements

    I have said it is difficult to replace the 7-8 best shortstop. There is a perfectly reasonable way to clear money in Correas contract to sign players that won’t cost the Pohlads a dime if they are going to sell the team.

    Not never is not all of the time. The better en d of a deal. Lose a player in free agency and get a comp pick or trade and get something the team really likes. There is more factors than just player x was better than player Y. The the traded away player was a better player than what they got only works for fantasy baseball teams. There are more moving parts than that In regards to other teams figuring out their players better than the trading for team, Joe Ryan is an example, Cano would be another.

    You complained about the Twins signing scrap heap players I pointed out 3 players who were failures and were picked off the scrap heap that did fine. There is something that you do not seem to understand here. Ho, they are not now scrap heap players, but they were at one point in their career. What is so hard about understanding that? Still waiting on the proof that mid tier free agents are the panacea to all baseball problems
