How did they get Lopez in the first place and to a contract that at the moment looks to be a bargain. Yup. They are incompetent -
The question should be is he a head case? Upside at 28 is hardly an endorsement for a free agent. 2 very good years out of 6 is not a sign that he will really help the franchise other than to take a spot on the roster. Is the paper on the very used spitball ever going to disintegrate?

The difference between a player called a number 1 and 4 starter is that the number 4 will not be the first pitcher starting in the playoffs. If both go injury free they will start about the same number of games.. One should not be dismissive of the number 4 starter

If they are trading Castro it would be to add to the team for future years as Castro will be a free agent. Sorry that you bought into the blogger’s bias

Castro would be a rental player. The value of his accomplishments is going to be lower. It only makes sense for the Cubs to trade for him if they figure they are close to contending and whatever they give up is going to be of about equal value to what they will get out of Castro. So what the Twins would be hoping for is a mistake.

Try putting Rosario’s numbers next to Shane Mack’s numbers in their last years as Twins and she which is which.

Maybe Borrego will be better at judging whether or not to take the extra base than what was done in the past. Maybe they need to work in spring training more on base running. Maybe the minor leagues ought to be focused on learning nuances of the game.

Winning does mute negative behavior a little. Some organizations do not appear to care. The Twins do not seem to be one of them

When the toxic player is at best an average player the negatives outweigh the positives. Witness how many times Pham has been signed to a 1 yr contract. St Louis kept him while he was productive

When the Pohlads bought the team it was mentioned that they could depreciate the players contracts that were signed. But not the future contracts, If this is so locking up the young core wold become a priority.. Even going over the budget could return value in the sale

The 1% is knowing how to use the players to the best of their ability. Last year would not be a good year to judge Baldelli. Given a right handed pinch hitter who couldn’t pinch hit and left handed batters who needed a pinch hitter. Then with pitching, with the 4-9 starters, having 4 out of 6 being unproven and the other 2 were an injury waiting to happen was a potential for disaster that did happen . To many his record says a failure. With what he had to work with he did well to keep them in contention.
