    In the past the Twins have stated that there approach to hitting is tailored to each player’s strengths. New hitting coach, not much different results. The thought that Correa does better as not having to be the center of a team could be validated by the tear he is going on in Houston.

    A young player with a high ceiling was probably a better get than an AA player with a low one. Paddack has had a FIP of 4.7 something since the middle of June. That number is less damning than his ERA over 6. The FIP is sixth starter territory. The ERA is trade for a PTNL or cash territory. The grade for value received is likely better than the outcome, but when the results are in, Paddack will be long gone fishing

    The 60 day IL is what will prevent the team from signing him long term. If the recent additions show talent there is no need to hang onto him. There will be a trade next year if he shows he is healthy this September and has returned to form. That is the Cleveland and Tampa way of pitching

    They made it known the asking price of players. They talked to Correa. They had a plan. The plan shifted once Jax asked for a trade. They did not get as good of return as Duran but they did honor the player request. When you look at the journey of Varland as a starter he never got the chance to start regardless of outcome has Festa and Mathews. I suspect that the trade offer by Toronto was in their opinion a blown out of the water deal. They did not seem to value him. If the Phillies think Painter is going to be a front of the rotation starter the Twins probably would have to give up that level of talent in pitching. Them giving up Abel would indicate they did not foresee greatness. The same could be said for when Tampa gave up Ryan and the pitcher for Jax. The staff here probably has ideas on how to make these pitchers better, hence the trade.

    I posted to merely show that even someone who appears to follow the minors and prospects gets it very wrong. I thought that it should be obvious which grade was correct. Since you so politely asked, or in spite of it, here is your answer. Dozier was coming off 3 great years and was having a down year, but the return was a D. Your reaction to me not saying which grade was accurate means that I made an incorrect statement. Duke was having an above average reliever year. The return was nothing. The only other grade you could argue you were correct n was Lance Lynn, only because it got rid of Lance Lynn. As far as the prospects go, that was a D return

    The only Twins team I can think of that wasn’t selling hope was the 87 Twins. From the first game it just seemed like their year.

    Last year both Ober and Lopez were i the top 30 starting pitchers for K%. Festa and Mathew’s are well above league average. The asking price for Ryan was likely higher than what Crochet or Cease was traded for. No team would meet that price.     Louis is having a breakout year. The alternative is that he is having a career year. Last year Cole Sands had a breakout year. This year, regression. The Twins sold high to a dream that was a little desperate to keep up with the other teams. If their assessment of Rojas is correct, ,a starter for a reliever is a trade you have to make.

    Larnach for a reliever is a likely outcome for a trade. The Louis would be someone in the lower levels with a high ceiling or someone in the higher minors with a lower ceiling.

    Short answer since the long answer got erased by the page reloading. The front office has 329 people listed. None of them are coaches, managers or scouts at any level. The one that needs to be fired is the director of revenue analytics, but I digress. There is a board of directors, Dave St Peters and 4 others that share the same last name. CEO and Director could be very well paid. Average S&P CEO pay is 19 million. Don’t forget, my three sons also have kids who need a paycheck. Major League Baseball has pretty stringent rules on debt and what they can borrow for.

    Baseball is a game of failure. Failing to get a hit 2 out of 3 times to the plate is great hitting. A home run every 15th or 20th time to the plate shows you are a power hitter. Draft 20 players. If one is a great player or a couple are useful it was a good draft. In his 11 seasons he has been to the playoffs 4 times. That is better than if he would have been drafted in the next three picks. The Twins are a failure this year. The lack of development by the hitter is on that player, the coaches or the drafting guru for not picking someone else. The same can be said for the slow starts this year of several of the veteran players added in recent years. Injuries happen. Who is at fault that Festa and Mathews are not Lopez and Ober? Some years are like that. Just look at Atlanta who was predicted to win the NL East and a favorite of some to dethrone the Dodgers. Some seasons are like that. They did not blow up their team, but their assets were different. The point is, some teams have a collective bad year. The rules of the baseball teams are very specific on how much debt teams can carry and how they accumulate. At 400 million the Twins are not at the debt level ceiling, but they are at the point of why spend more. Whatever excuse you want to us doesn’t change that the locals did not increase their coming out to the ballpark, not all that watched on cable purchased the internet coverage

    It would appear that the fans did not want to invest in the team, either as attendance went down. If a team os long paid for, how did they get a $400,000,000 debt when MLB has rules against borrowing money for non baseball items after the Wilpon fiasco?

    You can’t know if they got full value for a long time. What becomes of a trade may take a few ears for certainty. Joe Ryan, Jhoan Duran and Jorge Alcala are the perfect examples of that. You should be careful on using your second line

The Twins were slow to adjust. the Twins counted on two things on the financial side. Attendance to grow and the cable market to remain strong. Well, that didn’t happen, so they have to adjust. The cable companies were going to make their profit, so they were not going to give the RSN more money. The RSN was spun off with a massive debt. They don’t have money. The Pohlads have assets, but not loose change. The lane got changed.

    Like Joe Ryan before them, Bradley and Abel will get a couple of starts in AAA to help them figure out how to tune them up for MLB. It does show that they are not enamored with SWR, Zebby or Festa. They all have options remaining per fangraphs, so they still can remain here rather than sell low in the offseason. Any of them are probably better relievers than the additions made today

    The only 20 million dollar slugging first baseman signed by any team was Christian Walker. He has the same OPS as Ty France. Last year Carlos Santana was not the cause of the collapse. He was a slugging first baseman, but not this year. His OPS is about the same as France’s
