  1. Extending the relief pitcher is only going to extend the inning for the offense in the extra AB. they get Quality of relief pitching goes down without situational substitutions. The quality of relief pitching goes down when you think of pitching them multiple innings. Think Perkins as a starter vs a reliever. In terms of a television game, ratings seem to fluctuate with w/l record. The concern for the team and networks is the number watching. There is a chance that for a long time baseball has been watched in intervals, not complete games. There wouldn't be the pressure to shorten a game if that is the viewing pattern
  2. The savvy is debatable. 3 years of an Ace, 4 years of a cost controlled almost Ace, a closer, a set up man, years of an above average starting CF and a rental of a 3b and you have Moncada, Jimenez, Kopech and question marks.
  3. SubQ shot. He can't claim it was an accident unless he found a doctor to precribe it for mood elevation. He has reasons to be of low mood. Ipamorelin allows faster recover from workouts, doesn't put on the fat while adding mass. In that respect it would have the potential to enhance performance
  4. Given the last couple of years of Miley's career he might be looked at as depth for AA
  5. The issue is getting in. If you want to start a debate about removing people go ahead. If you want to argue standards for persons vary on situation I would agree. Just look at people's voting habits in politics.
  6. Times change, what happened off the field matters.
  7. That stat assumes stability in launch angle and speed off the bat, neither of which is mentioned as a stable trait in batters. The article states "Orioles third baseman Manny Machado produced a .335 wOBA in 2016. But based on the quality of his contact, his xwOBA was .357." Dis Machado regress because of poorer launch angles or exit velocity, better defense as his number of singles dropped or other factors? Predictive exercises can be entertaining, but might be of the same usefulness as the abduction/adductor machine
  8. When was Duke, Reed or Rodney ever traded for a high level prospect?
  9. Contracts this year are topping out at 3 years. Maybe there is not much movement because clubs are balking at giving away money at the back end of contracts. Analytics does have some usefulness to the clubs. It is not like there are got to have players out there. Very good players to help a team, but not anybody with a very long window left.
  10. Did I say anything about making trades? Adding words and meanings to someone's arguments. I am sure that every team would love to give up a top half rotation starter for Nick Gordon and a bevy of low ranked prospects
  11. So the Twins can get a top starter with multiple years of control left from a team that looks to contend for little of nothing.. Last week's holiday, or the holiday 4 months from now?
  12. When one reads the comments made by people on pitchers not named Darvish (who is neither 2 pitchers nor has pitched every fifth game for a whole season in a while) one could easily think that the team would be better off without someone else's reject.
  13. Santana, Berrios, Gibson Mejia, May, Hughes, Slegers, Jorge, Gonsalves, Romero, Little and Stewart or Ens make 12. The first 4 the team should have a pretty good idea of what they can do, good or bad. 2 are medical mysteries, Slegers is your AAAA emergency pitcher, The next 4 is the development squad that the OP would appear to be targeting as see what you have. Stewart or Ens makes it a Baker"s dozen. If you believe that Santana will age decline, Gibson will revert to bad Kyle and Mejia is a fringe starter, the poster has a point to wait and see if you are in contention. Given the postings about Santana and Gibson, the wait and see approach is as good as any. The position is more tenable considering the negativity towards any FA not named Darvish
  14. This is a one year deal for very little money. It is not a major deal. That it is one of the few moves so far this off season is no big deal unless you hobby is making mountains out of molehills. Nobody has signed front line starters yet other than Ohtani. Other than the Miami sell offs, Longoria and Kinsler have been the only major trades. Santana, Cozart and relief pitchers are what have been signed. The very few Miami fans that exist should be the only ones upset at this point. Colorado fans can be happy they have a bullpen. Yankee fans can be happy with their gift. Everybody else is still waiting.
  15. Does anyone go into a sport anymore by investing a billion and expect to lose money? There is but one scenario that that another ownership group could come in and make like the Yankees or Dodgers. That would be there is a wealthier family than the Pohlads not caring about how much money they lose are baseball fans and ego maniacal about "their" team being a champion. They would also have to be oblivious to the lack of success the Tigers have had under 25 years of Illich and 11 years of non cost containment.
  16. This move would appear to be so minor in the eyes of the management that it was not leaked to any of the usual people. A producer of a morning talk show that occasionally does baseball gets the "scoop". Duke at worst is competition for Boshers, at best insurance that Taylor Rogers does not get run into the ground. Any Twins fan who would think of this as a "signature move" has already forgotten about Rodney.
  17. I make an assumption that page hits are kind of important to the survival of an internet site. One time you and Dave (from New York) each started a thread on the same day. I do not remember what your piece was about. IMHO it was well written. It had well defined concepts. It got about 5 comments before falling to never never land. One of those was my comment thanking you for writing such a nice piece and that it was unfortunate that a positive spin piece was not well received in terms of the number of comments. I do not remember Dave's topic exactly, either. What I remember was, IMHO Dave threw a fetid dung ball out. 3-4 lines at most. That thread died out after more or less 10 pages of comments. I am not sure but I think Dave brought more traffic out. You might not even had as many lurkers for your thread because people seem to love train wrecks and car crashes. Audience analysis. on what they want. When the Twins called up Breslow if there were 2 threads, one detailing Breslow's efforts to reconstruct himself as a pitcher and one saying it will never work, which one would be better received?
  18. When you do not like the tone of a site's community many move on. You say meta, others have said haughty. It is what it is. See the threads that draws the views and responses and the tone of the responses
  19. With the pay for an article it becomes a labor of love, not something that could be income for the hours spent. On the desktop version, after a blog falls off the right hand side of the main page it is out of sight and mind. It loses the ability to generate any traction or ongoing discussions. I quit looking at them for the most part.
  20. The negativity becomes just whining and complaining to some after a while. Critical thinking is not just looking for negativity. The why portion is overlooked.
  21. Escobar and Castro can step up and be the Veteran leaders. 4 of the 12 should be enough. Grossman, Polanco, Sano Buxton and Rosario have all been around long enough to have a clue. If not, there should be some trades
  22. Did Thyrlos get his Christmas wish and the Twins will cut Boshers?
