  1. The definition of breakout player aliased used to be the rise of a player that was unexpected. . Yes high picks fail. That is expected. It is NoOT unexpected that theta have success. If you do not understand that difference it is what it is.
  2. It is more than reasonable to think Donaldson was part of the problem. Some of what I read led me to believe he is not supportive of struggling players and not exactly kind about it. It is amazing how one caustic person can have an effect on a group. I would guess winning mutes it, losing exacerbates it. We were a staff that covered 2 units. They decided to split the staffs and have separate staffs for the 2 units. One staff was to cover the more desired unit, The other staff the dumping grounds. The caustic group ended up on one unit, The B team of your not good enough ended up on the other. The management asked me to lead the B team. It was the best experience working with a group of hard working people that were generally happy people working in hell.
  3. By history Donaldson can be quite the unpleasant fellow, so there is foundation
  4. OK,you are now labeled as delightfully thoughtful
  5. What gain is there for anyone to complain publicly? A strange pandemic tear and a losing year is not the time to complain about someone. Even now, Buxton did not call anyone out.. The quote from Buxton did not imply toxicity. I have more than a few years in working with a group of people. When a person who hasn’t exactly been a ray of sunshine with their alpha personality leaves,, the atmosphere changes. It is not that the person ever brought you down in mood, but it sure nicer when they are gone
  6. If every outing for Bundy is like this one or came close to it he would be Cy Young material . Pitchers who can toss 5-6 innings of close no no run baseball are in that discussion
  7. What are people scapegoating Donaldson about in your opinion? He wasn’t a pitcher. He held up his end of the bargain on the field. It may be Donaldson moving on that changed the clubhouse, it may be the other players who left. Thing is that nobody would be blaming Donaldson anything beyond the clubhouse. He was not known to be tactful or positive. If other players were also that way in a losing season that clubhouse would not be a pleasant place.
  8. Back in the day a breakout player was one that exceeded expectations. Perhaps it has become a world of no expectations. Having too much fun here gets somebody else butt hurt, just saying.
  9. Draft position should mean someone thinks you have more talent than the next player. There have been people who look at such statistics. The order in which a player is drafted must matter or be important otherwise there would be no tanking. Drafting position comes into play with prospect ranking. Kohl Stewart and Nick Gordon come to mind. If you have no expectations of a player once signed, that is what it is but it does not appear to be the way the world works, otherwise there would be no player ever labeled a bust
  10. It is not really a breakout if by position that you were drafted in or by signing bonus that is what was expected to happen
  11. The line in the article was that it would take something special. I guess being health all year being special is the new normal
  12. It is only like the Dozier trade when somebody claims insider knowledge of the deal that does not happen. Before that there was the Duensing effect. That is a trade will happen if Duensing was included. Now it is the trade values validation., a third party opinion of what players are worth
  13. I could have sworn the popular stance here was to see things in the worse possible way. Little picture views get popular. Urshela for Donaldson will always be a loss. In the big picture, signing a top free agent may have done the most short term good. It shows they are trying to do what it takes to win
  14. In baseball for pitching good things happen in threes. 3 strikes, 3 outs. For the most part a pitcher also needs 3 pitches, not one. One pitch can lead to the deadly 3 for a pitcher, the 3 run HR
  15. There is no reason to want Upton. He, along with the others mentioned are a hope that they could play like they used to years earlier
  16. Dodgers need him for when Taylor gets injures or Lux fails since they traded their outfielder for Kimbrel
  17. I think the team already has enough light hitting outfielders. Uptown for 28m a year would even be a bigger joke. His best days are gone
  18. Buxton is 2 years younger that Trout. In the next 2 years he can make up the difference in WAR between them one could say he is the greater player for CF. As far as best current player for CF, somebody will come along when Trout starts to fade. The what if will be what defines Buxton
  19. The Dodger and Yankee ifs are not about making the playoffs. Never has been for a long time. Their ifs are about winning WS. The teams still have their ifs
  20. Having very few ifs means nothing because there is always the big IF, if everything goes right. Just ask the Dodgers. Better yet, ask the Yankees
  21. I hope that the scriptwriters are kinder to the Twins than they were to Kenny Jay
  22. A wise old man never worked with humans. This is Fromm one who has It is not credit for trying, but it is not a demerit.
  23. Had they not been traded that could have been Gil and Ynoa
