  1. Add a top starter, a decent reliever, players come back from injury at where they were, and players playing at their peak they would be a contender. That is pretty much the same if as all of the rest of the teams
  2. Considering what Oakland took back in the trades for Bassit and Manaea it is almost pointless to speculate what they would want for Montas. Pick a name off from the each of the Fort Meyers teams and one from Cedar Rapids that are performing well and that could be the trade.
  3. Yes there are fewer bad teams. Worse yet is the reason they are bad, They have very few good pitchers. Fewer yet on expiring contracts. The usual suspects in the last few years that got moved seem to be retired, the market is going to be bare. There will most likely be a player added, just don’t expect to be wowed
  4. Pagan and Rogers each have 5 blown saves. Rogers has appeared in 5 more games. There really would be no difference between the two in outcomes of games, They have each had their share of meltdowns
  5. There are plenty of people who need to look at trade history. Back pf bullpen rental help only requires a couple of bodies that bolster a farm system. A rental closer requires more. Control beyond at his year costs more. The Twins and every other team gave the assets to buy rental back of bullpen help. Starting pitching help might be more difficult . They have prospects doing well enough to be trade bait for a starter but they don’t have a pedigree of draft position or beauty contest rankings.
  6. Gallon was traded for a shortstop of the future. That would be the equivalent of Lewis. Stroman was traded for a recent first round and second round pitcher. The Twins didn’t have that. At the time their 2 best pitching prospects were Balazovic and Graterol Bauer was a personality mess then. Tanner Roark had less than a league average ERA. Better than Gibson, but not really going to change the outcome of the playoffs
  7. First off trade values include subjective grades on an imperfect science/ It does not legitimize anything Trade for Montas only makes sense if the pitchers are all future relievers. That is a pessimistic view on things Maybe the prospect sites don’t like Steer. Unbanked and in AAA. Low trade value Trade value people have a value for Bednar, so does the Pirates. Guess which one is more accurate for assessing if a trade is accurate By history of trades for relievers like Bard Cruz and a lottery ticket would be enough
  8. It depends on where he starts out. They could start him in A ball, He can play with another 21 year old Cavacao
  9. Wrs Johnson was not likely the source for the slider preference. That came from the analytics department. The front office’s MO on relief help is find the cheap and hope for the best. It is a matter of shuffling the prospects. The cost for those relievers is not the Wallner and Celestinos, Contreras is the high end. The low minor leaguers that are doing well but not being promoted could all be used
  10. Baseball numbers and what they mean. Twins catchers are poor at throwing out runners yet in a league that is more and more driven by data the Twins ate low in giving up stolen bases. There is passed ball data, but no data on blocked balls. The Twins are lower on the list for WP. The difference between the two stats is someone’s judgement. Passed balls also can happen when you are trying to hard to pitch frame. Hitting is more clearly defined
  11. Saves, holds, and blown saves are really not indicative of much in regards to the bullpen. The team has to have a lead for any of them. Without a decent rotation the counting stats are less likely to happen. If the offense clicked there are no counting stats. If the offense isn’t there the defense could let in a run, now you have a blown save
  12. It is a popularity contest. Biggest fan base wins. It is hard ti get too upset about the lack of success in a popularity contest as those are the parameters agreed upon
  13. When examining the past it is pointless to look at the trades made by previous administrations. They are no longer here, the current group operates differently
  14. They did not seem to want to pay Rogers so for them to want to keep Duran for another 4-5 years he would have to show more than Rogers.
  15. Neither Kepler nor Polanco will be with the team long enough for them to be considered core players going forwards. They will hit the big 30 and the analytics say decline, they will be gone like Rosario. Lewis with an injury history may be hard to consider core. Great when he plays, but there is when he doesn’t play. Same for Buxton. A super utility player is really the only core player the team has until the others show they can sustain a level of play
  16. Balazovic is the only one that has played in the futures game who did not make it to the majors. He just needs some more time
  17. The difficulty in bringing pitchers from outside the organization can be found by perusing the rosters of teams that are likely out of the playoffs, The prearb relievers are going to cost an arm and a bat. Some of the rental type relievers who are having good years have already been cycled trough here. There is a reason why some of these teams are that bad. Lots of reasons. Bullpens are one of them. Does a reliever with an ERA of between 3.5 and 4 really move the needle that far. They also have blown many games along the way
  18. Everything has a cost. The question becomes would you rather have a Winder or one of these pitchers. It is not necessarily Winder but the next capable prospect or two.
  19. Bednar would be likely to cost as much a Kimbrel did before he became a White Sox. Effross wouldn’t be too far behind on that price tag. Mantiply a bit further back. I would doubt the FO would spend that kind of capital unless there were prospects that the other team loved that the FO wasn’t that enamored with. If either were with Oakland or Miami it would be interesting to be a fly on the wall. Detroit will trade Fulmer to anyone. They are not going anywhere this year, he is a free agent afterwards. Divisional rivalries do not matter. This FO might be reluctant to give Detroit a good prospect. Seeing someone for a few years on a rental wouldn’t be fun. Then again, it is Detroit. I am sure when Fulmer is traded the people here will be more than correct with the “we could have matched that garbage” That leaves Bass
  20. HR/9 is down .39 from 2019, K/9 is slightly down. I don’t think the analytics department would miss that trend. The first few drafts under Sean Johnson as directed by Falvey and or Levine they went for bat over glove. It did not work. If this deadened ball continues, they need to have defense. I think they realized that. They moved Polanco. They have a couple of weak fielding hitters now. Arraez and Miranda are not going anywhere Perhaps the old school draft up the middle and move them out if you have to was the correct way to do the draft.
  21. Unluckily there is not a Joe Mauser or Buster Posey in this draft, We’ll, edit and laugh https://throughthefencebaseball.com/2022-mlb-mock-draft-5-0-brooks-lee-druw-jones/
