  1. Dispite all the handwringing I still think that if Sano gets his head on straight, he will be a big factor in the years to come. Buxton still has a floor as a very good 4th outfielder over the next 6 - 10 years. Guys like him (Rajia Davis) tend to stay around a long time. If Buxton can learn to hit as an average outfielder, he will be great. I like the new direction, as the new FO seems to be looking for players with speed and contact type hitters. This will make the Twins more competitive with their AB's in the next several years. Pitching was the area the old regime did not ever seem to figure out, like very much the new pitchers the Twins are bringing up the ranks, in fact at the minor league levels the current Twins farm clubs seem to have more problems with hitting than pitching. That is a very big change for this orgainization (and a welcome one).
  2. Since at the current time Dozier is not worth a QO, unless you think weare catching the Indians, sell him for the best offer
  3. Interesting set of players. One item I am noting is that the Twins seem to be moving more toward contact and drive hitters and not the swing and miss or hit it a long way types. I like the new approach and am very interested to see how it plays out in the next couple of years.
  4. If you are not sold on Garver, why not pay Ramos like 4/$60 to cover the gap. Twins have very little in payroll the next couple of years, so an overpay or a good contract will not be out of the ballpark to cover this gap.
  5. Sano's issues surfaced only later after some success in the majors. It is possible that can happen, but not as likely (we have all seen some players like that, but it usually starts with an ultra high level of batted plays in play to hits).
  6. It is somewhat, but I come from the highest level of intellectual sports. Anything you take can cause a problem, but I know sometimes you wonder seeing some of what goes on, if a top flight player is on something. That can cost you a lot of money.
  7. I agree it is going to be a strange market. My worry is that teams like the Astros and Yankees both with great farm systems use this market to buy controlable assets at cheap prices because of the great number of bad teams more than 3 years from contending and how MLB will address this in the future.
  8. Morrison at the current time has zero value. He will clear waivers and be looking at a minor league deal to regain value (or maybe a look see from a bad team). We are wasting AB's on him now. Plus maybe setting up a grievance if he gets close to his plate appearances guarantees.
  9. If the Twins hang unto Escobar they have everything they need for next year. That is assuming Gordon comes up and Sano comes back. Most of the rest can be filled by mid level FA's.
  10. While I do not quite believe this, alcohol can cause long term damage, but outside of hangovers and showing up not in condition to play, does not affect the ballplayer. Marijuana's usage has side effects not yet known, and how much this affects intellect and reflexes is not known. I know the groups I travel in frown on drug use, alcohol not so much unless it is effecting the results or play of the persons involved.
  11. Dougie got good results from Sano and Buxton, maybe tough love is the way to go with those players.
  12. Do not think that would work, but interesting concept, and maybe with a small extra piece it would work. Just worry the Swihart cannot catch well enough to play at this level, but Twins would have time to find out (and could DFA Morrison to make more room).
  13. Question for Seth, how could so many scouts, writers, analysts be that wrong if both Buxton and Sano turn out to be busts. Buxton will still have marginal value for a few years as a 4th outfielder, but Sano could turn out to be a total bust. I feel the FO has to make that determination at this time. If both Sano and Buxton fail next year, we will be into a new 5 - 10 year rebuild and neither of them will have any trade value. If the group of posters are correct the coaches and manager are failures, not so much the FO. My solution is you need accountability. and a manager who has some fire. Despite his non analytical approach I would fire Molly and put Dougie in the dugout. He is not afraid to pull players for bonehead plays and enforce accountabity. See what happens, it could not be worse than now.
  14. I agree with most of this. I would approach Escobar on an extension. If he does not want it then trade him, he has the most value of any Twins player. Try and resign him in the offseason. If you want just hang onto him and give Escobar a QO. He will be needed next year. Rest of the expiring, get what you can. Keep Morrison until Sano comes back and then DFA him (do not think he has any value). Players who have no value here should be moved. If not hang onto them (I also like Duke) and see who you can resign. Twins have plenty of salary space next year, so plan and extending and buying in the offseason (starting with Rosario and Berrios.
  15. Scary part of the last few postings are that the Fangraph writers are now really doubting both Buxton and Sano. That would really make the last few years(of TR) a total system failure. Not only bad baseball, but little future until the early 2020's.
  16. 4 - 15 in one run games should tell the tale. Fire Molly now!!!!
  17. I think that 4 - 15 in one run games says it all. If we lose the next one run game to put us at .200 we will be at a little less than 1/2 the major league record which is around .380. This is on the manager.
  18. Would trade Escobar for the right help. Either a decent close to major league ready pitcher or some good prospect lottery tickets in A ball. And then try and resign him after the season.
  19. I have seen the QO number around $18 million. I would not want to be without Escobar next year, given the current state of the Twins. Just depends on what he wants. I think 3/$30 - $33 is in the park. More if you believe his current stats are the new norm. I was stated today on the Twins broadcast that maybe Escobar is still feeling the effects of the Pprcello hit by pitch. Give it a couple of more weeks to work out.
  20. Was at the game last night. He looked very good. Seemed to tire in the 8th, but finished the inning. Threw a lot of strikes and was seldom in trouble. Command will determine how far he goes. 90 - 91 on the fastball.
  21. I am talking his hot streak at the end of last year. Not going forward.
  22. Do we have any knowledge of how long he was on PED's before he was caught. The masking agents get better, changes are made to the tests, MLB catches some cheaters, masking agents are again much improved to hide the cheaters. Do not know if this is the case, but from what I have seen it is a reasonable assumption, this can happen.
  23. Nice article as always. Will be interesting which players step up during the year.
  24. I can understand Mientkiewicz if that is what the FO is looking for. Jake Mauer is more puzzling. I feel he already knows that Joe is not going to be here next year and chose to leave because of that feeling. Family does matter. I do feel that the Latinos on this club wear there emotions on their sleave and maybe a manager with more fire would have an easier time reaching them. I could be that this Twins farm system was overrated and most of their players have not reached their potental. Some of that is on the coaches and some of that is on the manager. A bigger part may be on the minor league staff, which is not doing the job of training the players the right way. The area which I feel I can address is the mental end of things. It is not one size fits all. Some players need to be pushed and kicked a bit, many of them know their mistakes and do not need to be thrown under the bus or chewed out and made to worry about their jobs. This is the area that I don't feel that Molly is the correct person for and therefore feel that he should go.
  25. Do not have any answers, if this is as bad as it is starting to look Twins are much further away that we thought. I guess here is were I would start. DFA Morrison, bring up Chris Carter. At least he will hit some HR's. Send Kepler to Rochester, bring Cave back up as a temporary measure. Hopefully Kepler figures it out down there or Wade gets hot. Hope that Gordon gets hot in Rochester, we need more offense up here. Mauer at least shows some sign of helping.
