  1. You don't fix this problem in the major leagues. You have to start with the hitters from the time they join the organization. Hit the ball where it is pitched and drive it where you can. Also bring up some speed to open up holes in the opposing defense. It is not rocket science. Unless you are a major home run hitter this should be the approach.
  2. Doubt the Twins add a starter next year. They have 3 plus several at AA and AAA who could be here and are considered better than the current ones, Raya comes to mind. Maybe they need to bundle 2 - 3 of these prospect (possibly including Julien) and talking to a club like Pittsburg or Tampa Bay for a better player who cost has gotten too large.
  3. I think the Correa quote from Wednesday was telling. The man wants to win. Rocco does not have the ability to light a fire under the players. I think that quote was the end for Rocco, and I hope the Twins keep Correa around after his playing days are over.
  4. It is beginning to look like the Twins will pick and choose extra starters next year from the upper levels of the minors. It is time to move Varland to the pen. We have to hope they can find 1 - 2 lefty relievers as that is about all they should need in the pitching department next year.
  5. Right now if we trade Juilen he would be at a low, I can see him starting next year as utility playing 1B, 2B and DH. We have enough players to fill out this group. I also could see Keaschall+ a couple of more prospects to land a front line starter (maybe from the ultra cheap Pirates). We need to clear room not only for the players, but for the pitchers coming in the next 2 years. Let's hope the FA guesses correctly and packages some of the players for a #2 starter (I would have suggested Ryan be included, but the injury makes it not feasible).
  6. They are starting to let Raya ramp up now in Wichita, so he may be a little more than a year away also.
  7. Julien at this time looks like a trade chip, Don't see an easy place for him. Maybe first base is Miranda does not work out. He also is the type of player rebuilding teams like, cheap for the next 3 years. Let him heat up a bit in St. Paul, then extract a decent pitcher with him part of the package.
  8. For you that do not realize it, the New York Times and the Athletic are one entity, the Athletic is the sports department for the New York Times. This is where the bias comes from.
  9. This is 20/20 hindsight, and you don't know with pitchers who will breakout, if and when. Twins made good trades here, let's not second guess everything.
  10. I suspect a few like Miranda are being kept around hoping they do very well and can be turned in for other assets. Twins should have a few in this group (laurach, maybe Kirloff, and a few relief pitchers). Only time will tell.
  11. Don't forget Alcala, he could well make the club the way he looks and maybe one of the signees is either optioned or hits the road. It is early yet.
  12. 1. Martin has not played that much CF yet, so we don't know if he can handle it full time. 2. We have no great backup plan if Wallner regresses this year. Margot can at least contribute to that if needed. 3. If more than 1 outfielder failed this season Twins would be looking for replacements, and that might not work. I like the roster as constructed and having a number of players who can contribute in St. Paul is not a bad thing. 4. One of the biggest Twins failings last year was not being able to advance baserunners with 0 and 1 out, Margot should be able to help there. 5. When Martin, Lee, and etc are ready they will create spots for them. Most of them need more seasoning, and early returns seem to show Lee is the closest.
  13. I would be disappointed if Jenkins is on this list in 2026. Rest are probably a ways out. At least the future seems bright with this group, but still need more ptiching on top of this list. Expect a few of the outfield prospects get traded for better pitching.
  14. I still think Varland will be in the pen. SWR, Festa, Raya are all going to be in St. Paul and one call away. We will have other bullpen pieces down there also. Bullpen pieces vary from year to year, but we have the makings of a very good bullpen, wish it was a little deeper, but still good enough to cause concern in the opposing clubhouse of being a couple of runs down starting the 6th inning. Long term you also have Lewis and Cantinero coming back (sorry don't know how to spell his name), in St. Paul or Wichita), you never know how these things will play out, but we seem to have enough depth to survive this year. Long term you are correct, our minors are thin in pitching, so hope we can find some more.
  15. I am the outier who thinks Varland should be in the pen. Hopefully one of the prospects figures it out this year and joins the rotation. Also unless you think Buxton was going to play 120 games in CF, where was Polonco going to play? And some of you would be the first to cry, bring up the rookie if one of Martin or Lee is hitting .330 in St. Paul in June. It is hard to make a trade when other GM's know you have to make a deal. This works for both sides and the grades the Twins got are better than the Mariners.
  16. I feel that Ryan could completely fall off the map, same with Varland. Pitching you just never know for a few years what to expect. Hopefully others will step up. Kepler is the hitter most likely to regress in a big way. Rest is who knows.
  17. How many games did the bullpen blow in the 7th and 8th innings last year, because it was not deep enough handle the innings. Unless you are sure that Alcala can fill the extra spot needed, Varland must be there, we can't afford the number of games we have blown the last two years.
  18. i have gotten the feeling that mlb is going to take control of a lot of the tv rights so we shall see
  19. I am thinking Varland is more bullpen material, so we will need 2 starters to fill the gap. Maybe one can come from the system, but one or two will have to come from FA or trade.
  20. I am for Maeda at #3. He has a much better chance at getting the job done, no matter what the opponent. Stick Ryan in the pen or Ober in the pen and leave Ryan off the roster until the next series.
  21. If Rocco does not have faith in this bullpen, they why are some of them (Sands) still on this club. This seems to be an FO issue as maybe their DNA is not to spend on a bullpen, but a great bullpen to go with this starting staff will do wonders next year. We are going to have to sign one or two starters anyway, so backing them with a great bullpen may keep the cost reasonable for the starters.
  22. Cleveland has done what I thought other clubs should do. Make it a 5 inning game and force adjust opposing manager's thinking. After 5 with that bullpen a 2 run lead will look like 5. Force small ball early and stay close and win late. Or have a very good offense club and force the opposition to score a lot early. This works, ran a Strato-Matic baseball team this way. Beat up a lot of teams, yes relievers can be fickle , but know can see the Twins losing the division by 2 - 3 games, because Rocco cannot handle a pen.
  23. I would claim Moore and Lopez. Doubt we will get either, but those are the only upgrades I see. We have to make spots for Kirloff, Buxton and maybe a pitcher or two. I think Buxton and Kirloff would be enough to stop claiming an outfielder, we certainly can use more relief, so we shall see.
