    I don’t disagree with you but Castellano has 77 Milb games pitched, some in relief. Matthews has 42 Milb and 9 MLB. Varland is now a RP and wont be starting for the twins so that Milb pitcher of the year thing for him didn’t exactly translate to MLB. Corey Lewis was out ‘23 Milb pitcher of the year and is somewhere lower in the callup list… I agree also that April games matter but do they to the Twins mgmnt? SWR supposedly ran out of gas in August. We all know that he was really really good in April-Aug… up to about 100 innings pitched. Will the FO try to mange that to be June-October ‘25? I would not put it past them… Im just saying that we shouldn’t be surprised if they send out the shiny new toy to play an April SP role.

    Its not like SWR or Varland had many starts before ‘24. Varland crashed. SWR worked his butt off to be the next man up. I don’t expect Castellano to be a starter from day one. I do expect the Twins to use options on players that have them and do everything they can to keep Castellano as cheaply as they can, IF they think he is worth it. None of this puts the best possible roster on the field in April. Before 2024, Varland had pitched in 22 MLB games SWR pitches in 2. Neither of them were ever MiLB pitchers of the year. Neither was any Twins prospects recently.

    Well right but if he makes the ‘24 SWR leap, why pay Philly anything more? If he can go 6 innings out of the gate as a starter, make everyone else earn the right to put him in the bullpen by July. That gets you a bridge guy for the 2nd half.

    If he pitches well, why pay Philly anymore than we have. He belongs to us now. Use him wisely, keep him healthy and happy. Screw Philly!

    There is a possibility that Varland is in the bullpen on day one as a piggyback/swing guy/stopper with Castellano as the 5th starter. SWR, Festa, Matthews, Raya and Adams locking down the Saints rotation until someone needs a rest or a wheel falls off.

    Looooooey is gonna miss a lot of bats with that knuclecurve. Bring him in when a SP gets in trouble in the 5th/6th/7th, he gets the stop and then comes back in for another inning to set it up for Stewart/Jax/Duran….. probs will work well.

    I can see why Canterino threw 25 pitches. He hasn’t been able to in a very long time so he subconsciously prolonged the inning to stay on the mound as long as possible and work thru a bases loaded situation. Its not like anyone got a hit or scored a run. ERA is 0.00 If wallner keeps hitting every ball hard, we are going to need to trade someone for a bag of balls. Holy cow our pitching staff is solid. Oh and we all know SWR lacks top end velocity but he has a great mix and arsenal. He also works his butt off to improve so not much to worry about with him.

    We should probably throw out #1 “Health”. Without it, you can’t see his results so why even talk about things you need to see from him. Better yet, let’s say “health” is a given. Now let’s move on. He needs to miss bats and be in strike zone consistently. At 19 yo, that would be a quick ticket to Iowa and Wichita. Why can’t we expect a phenom to make it up quickly? can you imagine if he and Soto end up in St. Paul in 2026?

    Two ways that obstacles remove themselves from high performing prospects. #1 Injury #2 under performance Both of which happen regularly on our 26 man roster so I expect LK, if healthy and raking, will be a call up well before the allstar break.

    If we actually picked the league talent pockets with loose change from the pohlads couch cushions, we will make a deep playoff run. I know its a super small sample size on a windy day but positivity is contagious!!

    @arby58 What do you think of the possibility that Castellano gets the 5 spot and a few starts to start the season, then depending on how he does along with any other circumstances, send him to the bullpen and stash him there? Same thing could happen with Paddack…

    @Jacksson signing 1 FA doesn’t lead to losing 3 players. 3 guys in means 3 guys off the 40 man. It would be nice to have allstar version on Ty France, what are the chances of it tho?

    Rule #1 in sales. “Buyers are Liars” Owning a professional sports franchise is one of the ultimate luxury items. Every penny not spent on the purchase can go towards running the shiny new toy. The purchase price is only one facet of the sale. The ongoing expenses and tight profit margin is the most important facet. Buying the best team to run the whole organization seems to be the hardest thing to ever achieve. At this point, I would bet that the Pohlads don’t like any offer they have gotten. Like a luxury home that doesn’t sell or at least generate heavy interest and offers in a timely manner, it will get pulled off the market until the market dynamics change.

    Pencil him into the next wave of guys going to AAA in the pipeline. His velocity is serviceable and likely able to increase. His K/BB is in line. No doubt that the coaches and development staff know exactly what he needs to improve to get thru the hitter friendly texas league.

    The FO invested in him and they will run that investment up to the trade deadline. He will either be successful in a SP role in April/May or not. If not, he will either go to the pen or IL depending on what the issue is. If wildly successful, he will be in the rotation until he breaks. In that respect, its a make or break season but at the end of the day/season, He is only 29 yo. Plenty of teams will be bidding for his services next season if he finishes healthy and with even moderately good stats in ‘25.

    I understand that and would lump the top three in the same bucket. I would then put Paddack and Castellano in a bucket that says on the 26 man but possibly both in the bullpen. Keep them stretched out and starting in April. Depending on early results and how the next group is doing in AAA, early call ups and role changes would happen. Next up would be a group of SWR, Festa, ZM. they have limited MLB experience but will be huge parts of the rotation n ‘25 and beyond. The next group would be Raya, Morris, Lewis, Preillip, Culpepper, Adams and a few more that will be pushing the door down this year and next. I am assuming Varland is in a RP role.

    @bean5302 I'm not sure how you came up with that grading system. There is zero chance that Paddack will be dfa’d and how do you grade AAA guys so low when their potential ceiling is a probable mid rotation SP. I do agree that we are much better off with our top 3 shoving it every 5 days but ZM, SWR, Festa are not that far behind them and 6 more guys are a step or two behind those 3. and I haven’t even considered Castellanos because who knows where he fits in other than somewhere on the 26 man or back in the Philly org. One thing I would expect, he is gonna be test driven before a decision is made and there might be some red headed stepchild type love.

    He will likely fill a very much needed depth role. Seems like we are set with backups to backups in most roles. Depth is a wonderful thing!

    There always seems to be room for 10 SP during a season. Its awesome that we have viable options! Raya or anyone else could slot into a RP spot.

    This makes sense from a business perspective. They used leverage to get a bigger stake in a team they already invested in. There are plenty of other ownership groups looking to spend 1.6B to be in an exclusive club.

    Miranda hasnt been much of an iron man. Injuries are part of the game and it sucks. Liriano and AK have been game ending tho.

    I googled “who performed TJ surgery on Royce Lewis?” and it referred to an unnamed Doctor on “Twins Daily”. queue the English mystery music….

    Surprise. Erod has a minor ankle injury already. No chance we will see him play in MLB until July at the earliest. I sure would like him and Jenkins to absolutely destroy milb pitching so next off season no one will talk about picking up or trading for ANOTHER below average OF. Keaschall is gonna be in the show soon. Sit back and enjoy watching that kid!
