The way to look at it is like this. He looks like Trout when he swings the bat and he gets Trout like results, against MLB pitchers. He spent last year primarily as a DH but is an above average 2B and CF. He can steal bases. Twins need a solid DH and 2B man. He can do both and start out primarily as a DH, playing in MLB or AAA. What makes most sense when comparing him to Martin/Julien combo? 🤷🏼♂️

Its only a matter of time until Canterino is DFA’d. If his contract is insured, the FO will not care how long he sits on the IL 60 cause that opens up the 40 man spot. The team doesn't lose anything by paying for his rehab time. The immediate question is who gets added to the 40 man? someone outside the org or a young stud like Keaschall that can displace Martin/Julien. Then the questions that have to be answered in under 14 days is do Tonkin and Topa go on the 60 IL and if they both do, who do you add for pitching depth to the 40 man? Who is worthyANDready to be the next man up if needed? who will be out on the waiver wire before 4/1? The only thing constant is change… and you never have enough pitching.

Is it irrational to expect great things out of a former allstar that has his head screwed on right and is enjoying his job? I’d say no and as long as he has a positive ops+, I will expect him to continue to meet high expectations. He isn’t a rookie catching lightning in a bottle. He is a 30 year old former allstar on his primetime comback tour. Enjoy watching it!! Raya is still very young, someone will coach him up. Nothing to worry about. Wallner always starts slow. Thats why we have Bader. No worries. Sheriff is shooting bullets at bullseyes 🎯 until he doesnt. He may never surrender a dinger to Caminero ever again. Keaschall might just be our full time DH in April. Bye bye Martin and Julien. Enjoy AAAA guys.

Projecting the Twins’ 2025 Opening Day Roster, v. 3.0
Fatbat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Canterino will be on 60 day il soon enough. Topa probably right beside him. Sands is a lock if healthy. Tonkin or a late signed dfa FA from another team will be on the 26 man just based on attrition. Castellano is a lock. Varland is a lock. Both could get spot starts. Is it SWR or Festa in the rotation? When will Paddack be moved to the pen?- 58 replies

The 2025 Twins Daily Top 20 Minnesota Twins Prospect Rankings
Fatbat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I Reds the other day that Chase Petty is throwing 98/99mph smoke. Sad that we no longer have him. We will however get to watch CP, Hill and Soto over the next couple years develop into top of the rotation SP’s! They might be misses but I would bet that the trio will be in the show…. One right after the other!!- 37 replies

Sad deal!!! Maybe it’s a minor setback and he gets going later this season!

Anyone who thinks Castellano will just be “stashed” and only get low leverage innings doesn’t understand how MLB works. He got picked in rule 5 because he has great potential to be a long term asset and he was essentially stolen from Philly. He wont be given back due to anything he does in spring training, he will be given back only if he fails at his job in the regular season. His job is to get MLB batters out. He doesn’t have to be an allstar, he just needs to not fail and continue to show improvement as he develops with experience. He is here. Get used to seeing him on the mound whenever Rocco believes he will be successful at his job.

Castellano is going to get a roster spot for April no matter what the circumstances are. His ceiling is high enough that the FO isnt going to send him back until he completely melts down. Which is doubtful.

Since Tonkin is out of options, he should be considered a lock. If/when he fails, he will be replaced. Its not like this is new to the Twins or any mlb org. Pecking order is a thing. The young guys are fighting for the last spot given that Castellano will likely be here as a rule 5 guy, not as a simple trade because the Philly org wants him back. That should tell you something. He has upside and he has long term value. Therefore he has a roster spot. I would option Alcala and Topa and keep Varland, simply based on upside results and durability.

Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: Shortstop
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
C4 is in his prime so if the injury bug is gone, he could have his best season! He is the key to a deep run in the playoffs in’25/26/27!! We need him to be on the field for 150+ games. Going forward, he will continue to mentor the kids and could become a Minnesota treasure. The greatest Twins SS of all time is his to take if he leads us to the WS once or twice while he is here. 2025 is going to be his prove it year!- 14 replies

Royce Lewis and One Last Chance to Stick at Third Base
Fatbat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He will most likely be closer to allstar than washout at 3B. Let the kid play. -
We will see plenty of young pitchers get starts in ‘25. Hopefully Paddack gets half of his customary 100 innings coming out of the bullpen starting in june. Unless he somehow improves to a #3 type SP. don’t count him out yet.

Then add in 2 switching contact hitters in Castro and Lee. I don’t understand the fascination with getting another RH bat. LK could probably hold his own as soon as he debuts this season. There is also Kala’i Rosario if room develops on the 40 man. Two young guys that are bat first and headed to the show.
