I suppose health is always the top question for every player not named Cal Ripken Jr…. I agree 💯 on Coulombe. We need a very successful LHP! SWR is definitely an important role player but we have 3-4 backup’s for his role. I’m a huge fan of his and would bet he takes a step forward over any possible regression. Place him in the solid #3 SP category. Not over achieving personally but overachieving for his spot in the rotation. He has not hit his ceiling yet.

Exactly, wasn’t he in MLB camp as a 40 man roster spot. Got injured. Got optioned to AAA. Then had surgery. I don’t know how the 40 man movement works in that scenario. Essentially the Twins have a 39man roster at this point because he won’t be playing anywhere in ‘25.

Great article! All the kids are a year older and gained some great experience last year with most of the season being successful and then dying too early in late august. That happens to a young team so this year, they should live off the successes and further development of their skills. Our pitching staff is top shelf great and poised to be elite. It’s going to be fun watching all the failure of opposing batters. The biggest question is about roster spot #27. Can Lewis ever stay healthy and produce at an allstar rate for than a few weeks at a time. We want to see him get 5-600 ab in a season….. someday.

@DocBauer Paddack has an equal chance to end up in the bullpen in September so they can save his arm for the playoffs. We won’t be selling anyone if we have everyone healthy and wins are piling up.

All we need is the best bullpen in baseball. Which we have if Stewart gets healthy. It worked for Cleveland last year and half their SP sucked.

What Needs To Happen If The Pohlads Do Not Sell The Twins
Fatbat commented on Giles Ferrell's blog entry in Giles Ferrell's Blog
As a lifelong fan who got to grow up watching the Pohlads buy the team. Win 2 WS Championships and move to a great out door Stadium. I have learned that you can love and support the team and criticize ownership. Its the fans right to do so. There are many ways to support the team and not support the ownership. Ownership needs to needs to do what they have to do to field a winning product. Winning is entertaining and we as fans don’t need to support ownership until they create a winning product. Again this year, I am hopeful that we have a team that wins more than it loses and has a great chance at a deep playoff run. It’s March still and anything can happen between now and October. Lets play ball!!- 4 comments

He is making the roster because he can pitch 5-6 innings and keep the score low. What more do you want from a 4/5 SP? I know…. We would all like to have 4 aces on the staff. We almost have 3. If he stays healthy all season, I bet he has 16 wins.

Randy Dobnak is the last guy in the Bullpen
Fatbat replied to MMMordabito's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Im a bit torn about this. I am super excited to see Dobber in MLB again. He is a super cool dude and deserves a shot because he is healthy and can get guys out. On the other hand, It would be a cool long term play to steal Castellano if he could be a solid MLB pitcher within the next 2 seasons. The FO must know that we have enough guys to step up and Stewart will be back soon. Dobnak is gonna be entertaining for sure!!!- 48 replies

Keirsey, Julien and Gaspar Make Opening Day Roster
Fatbat commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
Sounds like Lee will be back somewhere around April 20ish. Lewis may be 3-4 weeks after that. We should be just fine to start the season. We also get to watch Dobnak out in the bullpen. Should be an entertaining spring!! -
@DJL44 has it right. Same thing that happened to headrick last season. Canterino has and was optioned to the minors so he is on the DL-60 minor leagues. I thought his 40 man spot could be used until he is done with rehab but I could be wrong. And yes, Dobnak got Castellano’s 40 man spot.

Sounds like Dobnak is now on the 40/26 man and heading to St. Louis for opening day long man in the bullpen. Canterino won’t be sent thru waivers because he is on a year long rehab. He is technically off the 40man but needs a spot back when rehab is done or he has to be sent thru waivers at that time.

He has a 1 yr recovery/rehab from the shoulder surgery ahead so when he is placed on the 60 day IL, he can be replaced on the 40 man and only needs his spot back when he is fully healthy and rehab assignment is complete.

True true but why would Philly want him gone? They obviously didn’t want to trade him during the offseason.

He is pitching for his next contract so expect great results until he is injured. If he kicks the injury bug, he will have a career best season! Don’t worry about how he does because there are 2-4 very capable guys behind him in the pipeline so we will be just fine if/when he hits the IL.

I would assume the Phillies want him back. Lets assume for a minute that they don’t and he remains a Twin. He would likely be sent to Wichita or St. Paul and remain on the 40 man roster. He may be a year or so away from climbing back to a possible 26 man spot so it’s doubtful he is DFA’d. The more likely scenario is that he is gone. His 40 man spot is open along with Canterino’s since he just had shoulder surgery and will be on IL-60 for the season. Now we have two 40 man spots open. Who takes them? Do we add Preillip/Keaschall and start the clock ticking on them or do we look for DFA’s from the other clubs that may be closer to MLB ready? The next couple days may see a lot of card shuffling!

@DocBauer Agreed! Kwesi has done a great job at FA and ufda’s.
-
That would be awesome! Maybe we will get lucky and he will end up like one of the greatest twin (Rod Carew) wishful thinking! Was just catching some highlights from todays game…Samuel Perez, a 25 yo RP for the CR Kernals might be a guy to watch this season. He has some stuff and might be more than just pipeline filler.

Yup. 6.5 years of Dozier was not enough. Those 2 are really the only Twins to hold down 2B for a lengthy time. I miss that.

My take on 2B is that we are perpetually drafting SS’s, trading for prospects or signing FA’s in the hope that one turns out to be an allstar 2B man. Its been decades of this and we have never really hit on one. The next man up thru the draft is Luke Keaschall. The immediate placeholders are Julien/Gasper. Martin already has been sent to AAA to learn more OF. The long play this season is LK. He has more solid potential in all 5 tools than any other current infielder except C4 but we know he won’t be playing 2B. Bet on LK. He is going to be fun to watch.

I just read that Gasper and Kiersey are making the opening day roster!! I'm definitely rooting for these two underdogs!! Lets find that last RP for the roster and get to kickin butt in St. Louis!!

They never rush anyone so when Keaschall shows up, it’s because he is ready. He played DH until august with a torn ucl and they planned his surgery so he could play defense all/most of this season. His bat already plays in MLB so we shouldn’t have to worry about wrecking him. I would not be surprised if there is a long debate about him or Martin on the opening day roster.

We pretty much don’t do well getting productive 4th OF’s that can play CF. Bader might be solidly average but we got better options going forward. It’s cool to have him as a bridge to erod/jenkins but he probs won’t have a large role after this season. Hopefully his defensive chops last into his mid 30’s. Doubtful his bat can be counted on. On the bright side, we have in house replacements that are developing that have a higher ceiling.

Canterino is going on the 60 day so a 40 man spot opens up. Preillip would be a great addition!

Looked like he rolled his left ankle badly when he and Winoker collided at 2B fielding a soft ground ball. He got stepped on with his foot rolled in. Ugly in slow motion! He walked off the field but then limped into a golf cart to get checked out.
