Considering that we don’t face many LHSP, we don’t need to load up on anymore marginal RH bats. We have plenty of them. We simply need to avoid the Margo PH .000 for Forever curse. Its a simple fix, let our LH bats get real game experience in the 6th and 7th inning facing a LHRP. Problem solved.

I agree the SWR is a good trade candidate. I disagree that he has peaked his value tho. He is entering his 2nd full season at the age of 24. He has several years of team control at a very cheap price going forward. He hasn’t yet proven he is a 32 starts workhorse. He has several steps in development that IF he takes this season, his value increases greatly. Its certainly plausible that if/when he takes those steps, the FO views him as a long term #3 SP and ink him to a contract extension of say 6 years $50M.

I would imagine that a trade will happen by the deadline but for the first time possibly ever, we actually might end ‘25 with guys in AAA that could have been used in MLB. Thats not a luxury, that should be SOP. We always run out of pitching! We always bring in a vet that doesn’t pan out. This offseason was truly different in a great way. Maybe the trade deadline will come and go because we don’t need an upgrade on the field or in the lineup so we just stash our depth. It’s about time we have this scenario.

Remembering back to little league and all the way thru college ball, we had lineups with the weakest hitters in the 8/9 spots. I personally was in those spots and preferred the 9 hole. I frequently lead the team in obp by working walks and hbp. I also scored a lot of runs. Martin/Lee/Kiersey could make a career out of the 9 hole if they clearly understood how important that role is.

Are Today's 7-8-9 Hitters the Key to the Twins Season?
Fatbat replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lee is definitely a possible big key to winning. If he can seize the 2B job along with filling at SS and 3B occasionally, he just needs to hold his own at the plate. A nice obp and .750 ops fills a much needed role in the bottom half of the lineup. I have little hope for Vasquez but Jeffers needs to hold his own at the plate as well. Martin, Julien and anyone else just needs to play a solid role….. execute by getting on base and moving runners along to get back to the top of the batting order.- 27 replies

I would have done the same if he went 2 for 2 with 4 rbi’s.

Wallner is batting leadoff today again. He flew out in the first and K’d in the 2nd with 2 on and 2 outs. ST doesn’t mean much.

I understand that. Lewis didn’t look at moving to 2B in a positive light either. Kepler refused to play CF also. Do you know if Wallner likes/dislikes the leadoff role? Not every change is bad….

On the flip side, what if putting him in the leadoff role, changes his focus a little bit, raises his BA and his OBP gets closer to .400?

I believe Julien lead off in two games. Wallner the rest.

Castro is needed n the lineup more than Lee. For now, Castro’s total value is higher than Lee so he will be in the game at 2B until he is more important somewhere else. Lee will get his shot and hopefully Eeles gets a call up at some point to see if he is a legit option.

Maybe this will slow down the rate at which Baldelli sends in the pinch hitters. Get Wallner at bats against a lefty in the 6th so he can battle against a righty closer in the 9th. Same can be said for Laurnach. I don’t see a way that Julien is on the opening day roster. Castro would be a decent choice as any switch hitter would be because it limits the opposing mgr when trying to use his pen. This will likely all become moot as soon as LK is an everyday MLB’r and holds down the leadoff spot for years to come.

Well the hype train has slowed down on Lee in the last 12 months. Given that everyone is healthy. Castro and Lee split time at 2nd and Miranda is moonlighting with France at 1B. Also given that most of our infielders can play 2-3 positions so there is already too much redundancy built into Rocco’s matchup turnstile. LK is going to beat out Julien/Eeles for 1st call up if/when someone goes on the IL.

Minnesota Twins 2025 Position Analysis: First Base
Fatbat replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Preseason rank of 22 should be easy to improve on IF France and Miranda stay healthy. We all know France was an Allstar and Miranda can be incredible when he is healthy. The downside is all about injury. No Injury, they both ops+ about 120 over the season. That takes care of 1B for 2025. Someday, someone will seize the position for several years. Right now we have 2 plausible options. Hopefully thats the only depth we need over 162+ games.- 28 replies

I don’t disagree with you. I’m basing it mostly on Castellano’s ability if he has it and if management believes in him. Last year, they were supposedly going to trot out DesClafani even tho everyone knew he was damaged. This year, a completely different scenario where they can try to hide a rule 5 kid or they can decide to throw him right into the rotation. When have they done anything conventionally?

I don’t disagree with you but Castellano has 77 Milb games pitched, some in relief. Matthews has 42 Milb and 9 MLB. Varland is now a RP and wont be starting for the twins so that Milb pitcher of the year thing for him didn’t exactly translate to MLB. Corey Lewis was out ‘23 Milb pitcher of the year and is somewhere lower in the callup list… I agree also that April games matter but do they to the Twins mgmnt? SWR supposedly ran out of gas in August. We all know that he was really really good in April-Aug… up to about 100 innings pitched. Will the FO try to mange that to be June-October ‘25? I would not put it past them… Im just saying that we shouldn’t be surprised if they send out the shiny new toy to play an April SP role.

Its not like SWR or Varland had many starts before ‘24. Varland crashed. SWR worked his butt off to be the next man up. I don’t expect Castellano to be a starter from day one. I do expect the Twins to use options on players that have them and do everything they can to keep Castellano as cheaply as they can, IF they think he is worth it. None of this puts the best possible roster on the field in April. Before 2024, Varland had pitched in 22 MLB games SWR pitches in 2. Neither of them were ever MiLB pitchers of the year. Neither was any Twins prospects recently.

Well right but if he makes the ‘24 SWR leap, why pay Philly anything more? If he can go 6 innings out of the gate as a starter, make everyone else earn the right to put him in the bullpen by July. That gets you a bridge guy for the 2nd half.

If he pitches well, why pay Philly anymore than we have. He belongs to us now. Use him wisely, keep him healthy and happy. Screw Philly!

There is a possibility that Varland is in the bullpen on day one as a piggyback/swing guy/stopper with Castellano as the 5th starter. SWR, Festa, Matthews, Raya and Adams locking down the Saints rotation until someone needs a rest or a wheel falls off.
