Twins Make Dubious History with Strikeout Record
umterp23 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Last time I checked: AL Central Champs, Hosting 1st Round in Playoffs unless a miracle happens with AL West pennant chase. Let's say we win 1/2 of the one run games we lost during the year, we would be roughly sitting on 10 more wins than we have now. Would that change anyones perspective on K rate? -
Paddock with the adrenaline inning was a great moment for him. Next inning not surprised but I'm glad he gutted it out. One inning if his name is called in playoff game, not concerned as I think he can control himself. Nice to have him back along with Brock I'm sure everyone is thinking well it is the A's but you beat up on teams you are supposed to and we did that last night. Talk of Buxton being an impact bat, but would he slow the mojo the boys have now? Twins are 29-20 without him but in Sept they are 15-8 with 5 to go. I like where this team is at the moment

Game Thread: Angels (Wentz) v Twins (Ryan), 9/34 @ 1:10pm CT

Win the series today and then enjoy the final week of the season. Slim to none for 2 seed but give the Royals credit for beating up on teams as they close out a woeful year for them. -
Candidates to be removed from the 40-man
umterp23 replied to twinstalker's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Why the infatuation with Gordon guaranteed a 40 man spot. Broken leg, didn't do much before injury and hasn't done anything worth worrying about for coming off the IL... If One year wonder so to speak in '22 season. If he gets picked up off waivers than good for him as right now he doesn't have a clear path to the OF/IF utility role. -
Game Thread: Twins (Lopez) v Angels (Daniel), 9/22/23 @ 7:10 CT

Righty Lefty rotational lineup with couple switch hitters in there. Jeffers in 3 hole is interesting. Spring training games he batted in top 3 but that was in part to get some at bats before leaving game in mid-innings. Win tonight, close it out for regular season division champs will be a great Friday night -

In a blink of eye in 3 days the magic number is 1 ... yeah us and now can we focus on the #2 speed which isn't out of question at moment but small % of chance exists Astros and Rangers are battling with Mariners 1 game back. Need some help for sure and O's vs Astros gave us a little: Looking at loss column we are only 4 games back. We own tiebreaker with Astros and Rangers, Mariners owns it vs us. Let's hope for a 3 way tie with Astros, Rangers and Twins for best record that isn't O's & Rays. Astros have 3 vs KC, 3 vs Mariners & 3 vs Diamondbacks. Need KC magic vs Astros Rangers have 3 vs Mariners, 3 vs Dodgers and then 4 vs Mariners to close it out Mariners have 3 vs Rangers, 3 vs Astros an then the 4 vs Rangers - Mariners have it right in front of them Long shot I know but need Royals and D-Backs to help vs Astros, Dodgers vs Rangers and Rangers and Mariners trading wins and losses vs each other. Can twins go 9 for 9 to close out season. Tall Task but exciting if it happened

Correa to the IL as of a couple minutes ago. Makes sense to rest him fully vs allowing him to play next few days if you don't need him. Larnach up which is kind of odd but that moves Castro and Farmer to left side of infield with Larnach patrolling left

The dual sport athlete is very rare vs back in the day. Playing multiple sports throughout high school was always the norm, especially in small schools, small towns. Staying active, using different muscles for different skill sets develops your body differently. Part of the problem is the contributing factor of Travel Sports Teams money grab and investment parents are now under to pay for expertise starting with 10 year olds being the next best thing in any sport. Year round training, the pressure of being the best, etc etc etc. Are certain kids worth it, sure but many are caught up in the wash. -
Pretty strong lineup last night and minus correa and Taylor, we might have seen our playoff lineup in action. Lewis should have been pulled out of the game in the 6th after pulling up running out the double play ball. Trainers and coaches be damn, pulling him out vs letting a player talk his way into staying in game. Really disappointed in Kiriloff at bats middle of the game, swinging at 1st pitch inside fastballs and dribbling them to 1st base for easy outs. Yes, the "oppo poppo" power is there but he does step in the bucket on some bad swings. Polanco sure looks like he is in guess mode at the moment, some really bad fooled spinning like a top at bats last few days. Lets push for the #2 seed, schedule in front of us is doable and AL West is fighting themselves. Accomplish that and you get more rest days and start the series at home. Nice prize vs wild card series.

Gordon really shouldn't be part of the playoff conversation. Was doing nothing in performance prior to injury. Stevenson plays better defense and may be a better runner instead of asking a guy who is recovering from a broken leg to be playoff ready.

Vazquez $10MM a year guarantees he gets starts every other day. Can't figure the FO out on this one. Yes, has a pedigree of championships, but was he the absolute difference maker on those teams? Hard to say yes to that. The thing that bugs me about Vazquez acquisition is guaranteed money for a guy who is now 33 years old. Two years ago, FO said no thanks to Garver as a catcher in his early 30's for I believe less money per year than Vazquez. Jeffers unproven going into this year, but he has sure turned the corner for the good. For our bingo card fans: .272 AVG - .369 OBP - .455 SLG - .824 OPS vs. .213 AVG - .270 OBP - .309 SLG - .579 OPS Pretty sure the bottom line we would have assumed that was going to be Jeffers. Before we clinch, Jeffers has earned at least the right to catch back to back days prior to Playoffs as he should be the game one starter catching Lopez and then catching Gray. Let's get to playoffs 1st though. Spot is waiting at the table and we are slowly trying to secure.

How Much Should the Twins Play Carlos Correa?
umterp23 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Seemingly locked up is not locked up. Rest him after we have clinched a playoff spot or after we claim #2 seed. #2 seed is still a slight possibility but playoffs aren't secured yet -
Gordon coming off this type of injury is not needed this year, no reason to put him on active roster at all.

Not opposed to any trade that would make them better. Assumption is Kiriloff at 1B full time, but do we really think that is the answer. Kepler to me kind of dictates '24 season. Has he earned the option with his 2nd half performance? If not, then Wallner & Kiriloff are your corners. Larnach might be odd OF out. Miranda might be IF that gets left behind.

Can Byron Buxton Actually Get Healthy?
umterp23 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would think there is injury insurance type of premium built into professional contracts. Incentive wise, pretty sure at this pace we are saving some bonus monies which means he isn't playing enough to warrant them. Tough injury pill to swallow year one year out if he is now the shell of what he was -
What Does a Lost Year Mean for José Miranda?
umterp23 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
you can never have enough pitching and Miranda could bring back a high end pitching prospect or two if you package another high end / low tier prospect from our farm -
Once the BP show started, turned it off to watch Duke upset Clemson. If you waive the flag in the 6th, might as well just implemented the good ole Slaughter Rule and packed it up. Will never happen as people pay money, concessions, etc. but it's not a good look for MLB to have such a brutal 55mph lob fest going on. Bury the Guardians today and tomorrow.

Last one tough luck as it seemed low and inside, better swings that inning fouling some straight back. In a Funk for sure. He was vocal after that strike as he hasn't felt they got some on pitching side of things. Duran didn't help with some wildness though. Tough stretch but he seems to work through things.

$33M and the 4-hole power of a double play batted ball. What is wrong with this picture. Has to be a clause in his contract or he has pictures on someone ... I would move Polanco to 5th and have Correa 2nd if we had to keep him in top 3 of lineup. Lewis 3 hole and low and behold thought I would never say it but Kepler at cleanup

Easy for Garver to say it was Jeffers along with Dunning making a comment as well that he didn't know where his pitches were going control wise. He hadn't missed to a right inside all game until then, he was missing wide left. Sorry, lame excuse by both Garver and Dunning. In going back to Jeffers getting plunked, he was pissed as anyone would be for getting hit in ribs with 90+ heater. He looked at Dunning who had turned his back and then went to first base. Nothing more, nothing less. Garver on the other hand turned his whole body to face Gray and mouthed off. He was pissed, so be it but she showed a tad more "aggression" towards Gray All said and done, twins take 3 out of 4 and sent Rangers home unhappy. The fact they had to bring it up in their commentary post game and as far as I can tell Twins haven't speaks volumes. As far as bat flips and showboating, that is the 1st time Jeffers has done anything in such a way to draw attention to himself. After reading this article about Jeffers prep for potential at bat, not surprised he was a tad joyous on the outcome: https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/ryan-jeffers-pinch-hit-homer-powers-twins-past-rangers Go Twins
