  1. Thanks again Nick for your evaluations and I can understand all of them except Jeffers. I think you ranked him according on how important his role is to the Twins rather than his true value. Hoping that facing only LHPs his offensive #s will improve but that doesn't negate the fact he can't hit RHPs. Also his above avg. framing doesn't negate his poor arm. Also the fact that SPs preferred him over Sanchez isn't saying much. Overall he's more of a liability than an asset. It's very sad that FO thinks he's our future. We need to cut bait on him while he still has good trade value. Again before he has no trade value. This year with the rule changes his weaknesses will become very obvious. We need to find a soon MLB ready top catching prospect to actually be our bona vide future catcher.
  2. As you said we have a ton of corner OF/ 1B/ DH lefty bats. It won't be fair to sign anyone for only LHPs. FO didn't even think it was fair to use Garlick in that role, so they used him too often against RHPs. But that's the only time to use him, that's his role so stick to it. When we need him we bring him up & put him on the 40 man, when we're done with him, we DFA him & wait for him to clear wavers. IMO it's not worth it to try to upgrade from Garlick. One area we could focus for RH power bat is Cruz. He'll be there for LHPs & he can hit righties as well. Arraez & Buxton could still share time at DH.
  3. Duran always had good stuff, the problem has always been that his arm wasn't able to hold up. If they had any inkling of him starting they'd have to start him out at long relief/ spot starting & go from there. But FO won't take that chance.
  4. Polanco's ankles are a non issue as long as he's kept away from SS. Polanco isn't a machine but management treats him that way because of his great switch hitting capability. He gets hurt like anyone else but they don't give him his needed rest. Last year he hurt his knee sliding but they never gave him anytime off & played him to the ground. Until couldn't take the field anymore & he had to miss the rest of the season. No matter how crucial he is to the team, he needs appropriate time to heal from any injury. The time missed isn't a reflection of his personal health but neglect from management. Hopefully Paparesta can right the the ship. He should play the amount of time to be healthy w/o any manipulations of time. Any team would love to have Polanco on their team but right now we can't trade him. Right now we have 0 quality INF depth. Arraez & Gordon are not MLB caliber 2B. There's some doubt if Julien will be able to man 2B. When Lewis comes back, Farmer can sub some 3B but how good could he really be at 2B? No we shouldn't even ponder to trade Polanco but we should ponder on how to increase our devastating lack of quality INF quality depth. Lee, Martin & maybe Julien can help out at 2B but that time is far from now.
  5. We got Farmer & Vasquez which were adequate moves. Gallo was a terrible move. They have to get Guillorme but he'll be cheap. They need to do a big move, Lopez or Rogers could do it. I'd do it under this FO pitching philosophy. Winning is everything, lets do it. Go Twins
  6. Great job Nick! You gave great reasons on how you ranked them & I agree with your rankings. It's tough to separate emotions from reality but you able to do it. It's tough to rank Ober ahead of Duran but I understand your reasoning, that SP is a more important position than RP & it's position of need. But yet if I were asked to pick which I'd choose to give up in trade, I'd give up Ober over Duran any day. But that could be my emotional tie to Duran.
  7. I'm a believer in Buck. Yes he has been hampered by bad luck & the result of his extreme efforts that he gives. I also believe this year he won't see so much bad luck & compete for MVP. Hopefully Nick Paparesta can influence the way Buxton has been managed and not try squeeze every game they could out of him. Instead focus on having him ready for post season.
  8. Just resist that crazy urge & say no.
  9. He's cheap. BTV has him at 5.2 compared to Kim 18.4 & Hoerner 30 something. Straight up we can trade Raya but there are so many ways we can make this happen with lesser prospects.
  10. When FO tells us to trust the process & not the results. But we have no idea what the "process' is. And it's about time to see results. Ownership expects Flavey to imitates CLE through osmosis and Baldelli to manage this pitching staff like TB. But we don't have the SP studs or a stable full of high leverage short relief as TB does. Yet TB's SPs pitch less innings than ours do. The biggest problem is we don't have the firepower to prance out 5 short RPs every game. So management needs to come to the understanding that we have to make adjustments. This FO seems like the only capable deals they are able to do are those when other FOs or agents come & slap them across the head & lay it in their hands & hope they don't drop it. Even then sometimes they do drop it or not maximize the deal. Most deals are bonehead deals that don't fit, that causes more problems than help. Sometimes I wonder about their ability to evaluate needs & players & ability to profile them correctly. My problem isn't with them hanging onto core players it's how they manage them & coach the younger ones
  11. IMO the only player who makes the most sense right now is Wallner because I agree with you that his trade value is close to his ceiling and that always makes the most sense. The other mentioned are at a low ebb of their trade value & I wouldn't trade any of them right now. Only possibility is if we can trade Kepler for front-line SP like Marquez (CO) or Montas (NYY) that'll bounce back. I'd never trade Kepler for a couple of poor players & or poor lotto tickets. June we can trade Kepler & Gallo, hopefully for something.
  12. Thanks Jeremy, I look forward to your articles because International signings is where we can find great value for future talent. The name that jumps out to me is Carlos Silva (C), with a name like that with that talent at a much needed position, he needs to be a Twin.
  13. Another good job, Nick. Also agree with Beast, Prielipp & SWR are very intriguing. They're someone we can place our hopes on. I imagine that's why Prielipp is as high as he is w/o pitching that much last year & no pro ball. Austin is on an uptrend and expect him to continue that trend. On the other hand Jeffers is on a downtrend. I was very disappointed when they traded Garver & Rortvedt over Jeffers. Because I always looked at Jeffers a back-up catcher & his trade value was much higher. After we traded Garver & Rortvedt & started to look around for a future starting catcher for the Twins. Very quickly I found an unicorn, Dalton Varsho. A very good hitting & agile young catching prospect at ARI that could play CF. I'd thought Varsho would go right to catcher with his premium bat & position where ARI could use one. But he played very little catcher but played OF on a OF rich team. ARI ended up trading away Varsho for a catcher to a catcher rich team where he'll predominately play CF. So why didn't ARI & TOR think that Varsho wouldn't stick at catcher? Only weakness I saw was that he didn't have the strong arm. You can teach a player other aspect of the position but you can't do much with a weak arm. Jeffers bat might come back a little but runners will run on him on demand especially with rules change. Jeffers would not make my top 20 list. I'd have picked up Narvaez & put Jeffers up for trade bait for front-line SP, maybe SS or get a future starting catcher prospect to place in our barren catching prospect list. Jeffers trade value has been falling & after this year he could be worthless on the market as well as to the team.
  14. We are together on this analysis, Doc. Because he dropped off because he was pushed, his trade value is very low. We couldn't get back what his worth & potential is to us. We absolutely need a true CF RH bat to spell Buxton, not an above average corner OF. Again I see Celestino take another good step.
  15. I believe Buxton will have shot this year, for MVP. Lewis will have an impact but will he get enough playing time to qualify for ROY? Even if Wallner has a decent hitting year, play enough with Gallo in the equation, his defense will keep him from coming close. Gray or Mahle has the best shot for CYA but I really doubt it.
  16. Doctor Gast

    Joey Gallo?

I see the shift ban definitely will help Kepler but Gallo not so much, his problem is SOs. Pitchers have adjusted to hitters like Sano & Gallo, so I don't see much chance for them to return to any relevancy. But you throw out that Gallo could hit 40 HRs this FO goes crazy & lose any sense of reality, especially with the Levine contact. I wish Levine could use his contact with CO to land Marquez, a potential front line SP which we can use, not another corner OF/ 1B/ DH lefty bat. What really scares me that this FO will use Gallo at CF, where he doesn't belong to squeeze out Gordon who belongs there. Then put Gordon in the INF where doesn't belong, to prevent us from getting someone who can play there.
  17. Duran was our most pleasant surprise, So was Lewis he was great until his MLB CF debut. Miranda had a chance to redeem himself after Lewis got hurt, & did a bang up job. Jax did a fine job. Gordon was our most dependable OFer & has established himself very valuable to the Twins. The 1st part of the season especially late April. May & 1st week in June Celestino was with Buxton & Arraez as our best hitters plus a very good CFer, he had a big jump from last year. The last half he couldn't sustain it but I expect Celestino better sustain those offensive #s this coming season. Having Celestino back up Buxton with Gordon we absolutely don't need Gallo in CF. Gordon has established himself in the OF, keep him out of the INF.
  18. Very interesting indeed & I deem valuable. I am supposing that Maeda didn't make the list.
  19. Good job. Frankly I'm not in favor of doing any more trades with SD. So I'm not sure what they need.
  20. It'd take Kepler, Martin & Miller type trade. Or maybe Ober straight up. I wouldn't do it. He'd help, but not my 1st choice
  21. I'd like to include Martin that he'd continue his comeback & make it back into the Twins top 5 prospects.
  22. Brooks Lee will be the easiest to do because Lewis will have graduated this year. Lewis will prove himself at SS at some time this year, seems like he as strong as ever he should stick at SS as long they keep him out of CF. E Rod should also be easy because he's so athletic. Prielipp hasn't pitch any pro ball yet and has only pitched 28 innings of college ball. As we are very hopeful, pitching prospect are very volatile, for him to arrive at the top of the rotation is very iffy. IMO it hard to say for sure until they are on the doorstep. I'm very high on SWR & I'm sure he'll make it to the MLB & make some starts. To predict that he'll join the rotation after spring training is stretching it & I don't think he should. IMO he'll better to get reestablished at AAA before coming up.
  23. 6 yrs. waiting for the pipeline to gush front line SPs. So far just a trickle with only Ober & Winder and maybe you can count Wells (BAL) with a lot of failures. IMO Ober & Winder would have fared better if they were taken slower & used as long relief/ spot starter. Because of this set back they should be put on the long relief/ spot starter along with Maeda, Varland & SWR should also be eased into the rotation by being used as long relief/ spot starter. Hopefully then this pipeline will look a lot better.
  24. 1.) Health- Some of our injury was bad luck which I do believe will change. But most of it was managerial, hopefully Nick Paparesta can straighten them out. Once we figure that out that'll be a game changer. Having a team all rested, injury free through the season & everyone ready for post season. 2.) Youth- about what we had last season one more season under their belt will help. 3.) close game losses- dropping Duffy & Pagan as closers has helped a ton & improve on #1 will also. 4.) Rotation- is a little better & deeper but if health management isn't incorporated we'll go down the same road, it'll might just take a little longer. If they plan to put Maeda in rotation on opening day. They have just taken that 1st step down that road. 5.) Division- I see it as tougher. Cleveland, their youth has become established. CWS, once their feet back under them after LaRossa's reign, will be tough (hopefully it'll take awhile) 6.) BP- most improvement 7.) Outfield- last year we had a pretty good & deep OF. Now with signing Gallo, seems like some bonehead move is brewing that'll effect this OF for the worse. 8.) INF- Right now. 3B - Miranda (questionable but hopeful); SS - Farmer (serviceable, great against LHPs, not against RHPs); 2B - Polanco (solid). Depth- 0 quality depth. For us to even think about competing this year, we need to solve our INF problem by finding a legitimate platoon with Farmer.
  25. I apologize again Alex for venting. Some how I missed you next paragraph (did you add it later?) LOL. IMO social media are a breeding grounds for positive hype & negative hype, that unfortunately influences the people who follow them. With the positive hype I just roll my eyes but the constant negative hype, I kind of lose my patience. You happened to be the one when that happened. BTW I enjoyed your article. If you ask me which I favor old school or new school, I say whatever works.
