  1. I was completely against the Twins taking on Paddack, knowing full well that NYM rejected him because of the medicals & also receiving the same medicals & knowing his history. I don't have the same hesitancy with Correa but I'm concerned about this FO lack of concern about such things. Also maybe it was the reason HOU didn't sign him. But we have him for 6yrs. with his prime ahead of him. Go Twins!
  2. The big difference last year wasn't the players it was the health management. Hopefully Pararesta can influence management to change their way to focus on keeping our players fresh & healthy throughout the season & into the post season. Some of it was bad luck but I predict that will change. Our BP and catching are much better. With Correa & Buxton up the middle it provides great structure to work from. Get a front line SP & we're set.
  3. Always thought we had a chance but I didn't think it quite turn out this way. I didn't think he'd go this low on years. It makes me wonder what the Mets offered him. It must have gotten a little nasty. It seems a trade w/ MIA is eminent. Hope they make a good trade. There for a long time I've watched the video on Lewis getting hurt. I always thought he hurt his knee running into the wall. But as I watched it more closely, it appears to me that after was running full blast he jumped up & when he landed on that leg before he hit the wall he actually hurt his knee. I was a big advocate to keep Lewis out of the OF especially CF after his 1st surgery. But now I'm even more venomous because how can you keep a player like Lewis from running full blast & jump for a ball in the OF? You can't, so put him in SS or 3B & give him time at 2B & 1B while he gets his feet under him at AAA. For God sake keep him out of the OF!
  4. I haven't heard anything yet but it makes as much sense as signing Gallo. You have to think a MIA trade is going down, somewhere. Hopefully w/ MN.
  5. I'll yield that Francona could be trying to phrase his language in a nice way that portrayed his personal feeling towards Bauer w/o completely speaking in behalf of the clubhouse. But I didn't try to misinterpret anything, I interpreted literately how it was said. I'm not trying to push any agenda. It just seems that this clubhouse thing could be blown out of proportion. And I want to be open for what is true. And not believe everything I hear or read.
  6. No, I don't care how many ways you can use could, I just want you to focus on the correct one that had been used. And that is the (auxiliary- to show future possibility) could used with the main passive verb be. "Bauer could be toxic" if you can't understand what I explained before and throw a bunch of useless information at me. Then I just give up.
  7. Your statement is w/o merit. Can is an active verb meaning the ability to do (infinitive tense of an active verb) something. Example present tense: He can (main verb) run(infinitive) Example past tense: He could (main verb) run- with the connotation that he no longer can run Francona stated that Bauer was let go because "Bauer could be toxic to the clubhouse", In this Francona statement the main verb isn't can but is be (passive verb), here could is an auxiliary meaning future possibility with the connotation that it doesn't exists now.
  8. The main focus of this team needs to be, is to field the best team while building for the future. Right now there is a gaping hole in a fragile infield. With Polanco solid offensively & defensively at 2B, Farmer is solid defensively & offensively against LHPs, not so much against RHPs. Miranda has flashed a lot of potential with his bat but is unproven & not profiled to be a great 3B. If anyone gets hurt we have absolutely zero quality back ups, the result will be devastating, and the season would be lost from the beginning. Nobody can guarantee to me that none of these 3 won't get hurt or needs a rest or that Miranda will settle in at 3B. So it's essential that we go outside the organization to fill that hole whether it's Correa or a different solid SS (Guillorme) that can hit RHPs. Then Farmer can fill that much needed hole of capable utility. Farmer is a temporary place holder for Lewis, next year he'll be gone or possibly traded at the deadline. The difference between Correa & Guillorme is that it'll be difficult to trade Correa for multiple years blocking the progress of Lewis, Lee & Martin but Guillorme can easily be traded with a potential increase in trade value when those prospects are ready to take that step. The person who is really blocking our young players is Gallo. W/o Gallo, we have Gordon in LF, Buxton in CF & Kepler in RF and then we have either Larnach, Kiriloff or Garlick as 4th OF depending on health & schedule, with Celestino & Wallner in AAA for seasoning. That's potentially 5 OFers vying for the 4th OF spot later in the year. Now with Gallo that makes 6, IMO forcing us to trade someone. We can't trade Buxton, Gordon was our most reliable OF last year with still a lot of upside & availibity left; it's not practical to trade Larnach, Kiriloff or Kepler because of down year. Celestino still has a lot of upside; that's leaves Wallner but most likely it'll be Kepler for a couple of low lotto tickets. Arreaz is dispensable no matter what we do with Correa. We have great bats that can play 1B/ DH in Kiriloff, Miranda, Julien plus many others who can slip in like Arraez did. The problem unfortunately is Arraez isn't much good anywhere else. Arraez could be used together w/ others to help fill areas of need. With the development of players Polanco & Miranda could also unfortunately be expendable to trade in the near future.
  9. SD has a sour taste in my mouth, a lot has to change before I can get that taste out of my mouth. IMO Tatis is a problem & is expensive, Darvish doesn't want to come here, Snell isn't an upgrade. Kim isn't enough an upgrade to justify the cost of players needed in a trade. Besides IMO SD has to be absolutely horrible before they give up.
  10. Under present philosophy we could use Chaffin & or Fulmer. Forget about Cruz's '22 stats. He has recovered from his eye problem & thrives under our environment. We need a righty bat that can rake on both LHPs & RHPs. We need his leadership, sign him up
  11. I believe the point of the article is "Is Bauer Worth it?" not that he can't tone it down. One thing that I didn't like what Bauer did, was him not giving the ball to Francona & instead throwing ball over the fence. That was lack of respect to a man that deserved it. Later he apologized to him & his teammates. In that respect he has toned it down. Francona stated that Bauer was let go because "Bauer could be toxic to the clubhouse", not that he was. But people used that statement for an excuse to condemn him. Bauer had no problems with the Reds, they wanted him back and many Dodgers wanted him back. Is Bauer disliked by some teammates? yes. & I don't especially care for him. Was Morris disliked by some teammates? yes. But if you asked any of those Twins if they preferred not having Morris & not win the '91 WS or winning the WS with him, they'd choose the later. So Is Bauer worth it? I've said it's worth a try.
  12. I don't like social media, I don't follow Instagram, Twitter or the like. because I don't like the c**p that goes on there. So I can't comment on his actions there. All I know is that he hasn't been convicted by the courts and he's paid dues to MLB , on a Dodger podcast the fans overwhelmingly are in favor of LAD bringing him back, supposingly many Dodgers want him back and Manfred would like him out of MLB because of all the things he exposes (which I think is a great thing for MLB). For these reasons and that he's an ace that can really help this club on the cheap, I'm open for the Twins to obtain him. Morris was not a clubhouse guy yet he was a big factor in the Twins winning the '91 WS. Like I've stated before Bauer is crazy, can the Twins reform him? maybe but probably not, Can the Twins convince him that it'd be in his own best interest to tone it down? I hope so. If Bauer is indeed a liability, I'll be on the bandwagon to trade him or release him & only being out very little or nothing at all. We can debate this all we want but in the end this FO won't go out & get him because they like to keep things under wraps & Bauer won't let that happen. This FO isn't interested in results they are interested in the process, which they don't want to be known.
  13. Seems to me as a high risk/ low return situation to me. Just because we have extra money on hand doesn't mean we can throw it away. That's what put Boston in the mess where they are now, much like CO spending money needlessly and when there's a need & opportunity they can't do anything because they are hamstrung. We got Vazquez (which I like) but we over paid him and I think we could have done better with Narvaez & much cheaper if we had focused on him. Then we got useless Gallo & over paid him. We are going down the same road as CO & BOS. If this trend continues we end up in the same place. Useless players hamstringing our payroll & blocking the path of our prospects. & producing a losing team. I'm not totally against this idea. For example I'd be for a Marquez trade. Take on his $15MM salary would be a moderate risk with a high return. Marquez would greatly prosper being taken away from CO. & so will we.
  14. At this point our quality MLB proven INF depth is in shambles. Farmer & Polanco are above avg. at their respective positions. Hopefully Miranda can play a respectable 3B. If any of these get hurt or heaven forbid trade Polanco & we have to depend on these prospects to rise up from the minors where they haven't even established themselves yet at their positions, would Celestino all over again & the team would tank like '21. Gordon isn't MLB INF, Arraez isn't either unless they extensively work w/ him at 3B thus together play at 1B. It's hard to know when Martin will be called up. If everything are fine hopefully he won't be called up until Sept. with Lee & Julien. Balazovik I don't see being called up this season.
  15. Cohen doesn't appear to me as a low baller. It also appears to me that he really wants Correa. So any action he is doing is to protect himself in the long run. I don't see why they'd single out Correa & not the other FA he signed. Correa burned too many bridges last season because he wanted Seager money. Boras is a smart guy, I don't understand why they haven't dreamed up a creative deal yet. The only problem I see is maybe Correa's ego. As I stated from the beginning there should be a creative heavy incentive contract that can max out at $45MM/ year. That would include time playing SS, 3B, DH; World Series, ALC, post season games won, division championship and game played. And guarantee $15MM if he can only play at DH towards the end of his 10 yr contract. This just a guide line something that could work from. On the surface it looks like a 10yr/ $450MM contract (which would satisfy Correa's ego) yet in reality would be closer to 1/2 that price. If he wants no trade or trade approval, opt outs give it to him. If Correa believes there's problem let them prove it by agreeing to this kind of contract. It'd be a contract that could be attractive to any team that'd like him in trade. If he doesn't like it let him walk. My worry that FO act out of desperation because of their lack of success in this offseason (much like this Gallo move). They don't listen to the doctors & insurance assessors & proceed believing that nothing will happen. And again something happens & we are holding the bag again.
  16. I was going to state the same thing. Leave this kid's swing alone. Their tinkering IMO was the reason for Martin's funk. Also if it's known & it's proved that he has a problem to stick at SS why keep playing him there? Why not play him all over the OF, 2B & 3B? Lewis needed to be played at SS in AFL but they played him at CF & 3B. Martin needed to be played in OF, 2B or 3B anywhere but SS, yet that's where they mainly played him. Martin proved that he can get on base & even with some power in AFL. My advice to him is to try to get out of the way of being hit by pitch, it's not worth it to get on base when you could get hurt & effect your play. Julien has yet proved that he can play MLB 2B and Lee profiles better at 3B. So Martin has a better chance there. Only problem is if we sign Correa & Lewis will become our INF utility player behind Farmer.
  17. Thanks Cody for a spot on article, contrary to the negative hype that's out there. I expect him take another step this year w/ the a little more seasoning in AAA. Celestino is a very good hitter, let him develop his power on his own w/o focusing on launch angle. We don't need another SO king- Sano, Gallo, Sanchez & Jeffers are more than enough.
  18. The young players that has something to prove. The main thing that Larnach, Kiriloff & Ober need to prove is that they need to stay healthy. Ober was misprofiled as SP, he should be used as long relief/ spot starter before graduated to SP last year. Since that didn't happened, he needs to start out this year as long relief/ spot starter so he doesn't burn himself out. Winder is in the same boat, I'm sure he could excel at long relief/ spot starter but I'm not so sure if he can graduate to SP. Jeffers needs to prove that he can throw out runners. good luck! Miranda needs to prove that he can man 3B adequately. And Wallner needs to prove he can play MLB RF. Ryan has nothing to prove, he did everything that was expected of him. This year with a year under his belt, I expect him to take another step. The same with Celestino, with another year under his belt & some more seasoning in AAA, I expect him to take another step. Varland & SWR needs to prove they can ease into a SP role by pitching long relief/ spot starting role. I expect them to do well. SWR will start at AAA but Varland should be on the active roster.
  19. Our INF stinks. Defensively, Farmer & Polanco are fine and hopefully Miranda can hold his own. But if he isn't or if someone is injured we're in deep trouble. An INF of Miranda (3B) Polanco (SS) Gordon or Arraez (2B). Great many AAA INFs are better. Offensively our INF is great as long as we face LHPs, which is less than 10% of the time. How about the other 90+% of the time? Our quality INF depth is non existing. An above avg. fielding SS who can hit RHPs is our greatest need. If we don't address this properly we can write off this season before it starts.
  20. This a last ditch effort by Boras to squeeze as much as he can out of the deal. I don't trust any thing coming from Heyman concerning Boras. Mets are his best shot, Correa's ego might get the best of him again. IMO the problem hasn't been Cohen, but his doctors & insurance co. If they don't give the OK then it's stupid to go against their recommendations & limits. Do the Twins have a shot at Correa? IMO they do, only as a safety net. Correa also figured that since the Twins have bought a bunch of damage goods in the past they might go long term w/o clauses.
  21. It'll be interesting how these players develop but the only one that'll see any real playing time is Julien. We shouldn't see any down time from Polanco but if it were the case, I hope we wouldn't have to depend on Julien at 2B. I'd sooner see Martin there.
  22. Thank you for responding. When I stated Jeffers value I didn't mean trade value but asset value. And I assumed you meant "As such, players at areas of scarcity (i.e. pitching) get elevated while those at areas of abundance (i.e. lefty-swinging corner guys) get downgraded a bit." in your evaluation. And I understand that. But I disagree by my assessment, judging strictly on a liability/ asset basis. And that deciding Jeffers as our future catcher by our FO doesn't cut it. Also looking at both Vazquez & Jeffers in a 3yr window, Vazquez is our starting catcher & Jeffers as back up. Vasquez is a more valuable asset. IMO areas of weakness & strengths should be addressed differently than individually, Catching depth present & into the future are in shambles so the best way to address that is to trade from our strength corner OF/ 1B/ DH lefty bats. My suggestion is Endy Rodriguez (PIT)
  23. I'd be for it, if we hadn't signed Gallo. Larnach, Kiriloff & Kepler trade values are down, I wouldn't want to trade any of them at this point. But with Gallo signed we can't trade him until June and we are forced to trade Kepler. Only way I'd consider McCutchen now is if we find good trades on Kepler & Wallner.
