  1. If Vazquez had the chance to replace 4 of Jeffers' strikeouts with his own, all of Minnesota would have guillotined Rocco for blowing their chance at the world series.
  2. How about Sonny Gray, Pablo Lopez, Chris Paddack, Bailey Ober, and Louis Varland? The Twins batting champ hit .230 (big asterisks there) and 7/9 of the lineup put the exact same swing on every different pitch missing approximately 81 pitches per game in the ALDS. I don't think the team's largest chance to improve is in the pitching.
  3. I just.... hate Texas.
  4. Can't have your Kirk Gibson moment without your Kirk Gibson. Besides, Buxton can't be any worse than Kiriloff has been.
  5. But Larnach isn't on the playoff roster... is he? Someone hurt?
  6. People would have bitten your head off for even suggesting that the Twins would be in the ALDS.
  7. Fair enough. Maybe built for THIS October. He has had some good postseason games. Like you say, not a lot of games to draw full conclusions.
  8. Right. He had a down year at the plate, but he's not terrible. How do we know he's not built for October if they bench him the entire series? If a pitcher prefers to have him catch them, let him catch.
  9. I'd add that they also need to find ways to score WITHOUT hitting home runs. As October moves forward we are running out of hot days that help that ball soar. This is obviously a problem for both teams, but finding a way to change up the game a bit to get more aggressive on the bases (and more people on the bases) should help.
  10. Assuming Gray wins game 3 (knocking on wood), I'm more worried about Ryan v. Verlander. If we pull out a miracle there, the Twins advance.
  11. Well Taylor has 4 strikeouts so far, so not that much different. If Buxton had managed to hit 1 HR, they'd be about even with runs scored, Buxton would be ahead if anyone was on base.
  12. A good Buxton would have done everything Taylor is doing, and add several home runs to boot. But the Buxton we have now is likely to go 1 for 100 in the post season. Any chance Correa's food is magically better with the tear and all that? Watching him run makes him seem like the Correa of years past. Not that he's fast... but he's not slow either.
  13. Yes to all of this. His job in the first 162 is to win the division, not to win 100 games, sweep the Yankees, or go on massive 15 game winning streaks. One of the things I've noticed over the year is that the Twins very rarely swept any team. They'd win the first two then experiment (maybe). After 162 they know things like... will Gallo bounce back if given the opportunity? No. Will Vazquez provide enough defensive upside to bring in 2 days in a row? No. Will extreme use of pinch hitting outweigh limited benches in 10th innings? Yes. They have a whole 162 games of data to use when sculpting their postseason play. And now that they are here, the team looks a lot like the team everyone was clamoring for the whole time. They've dropped the dead weight of Gallo and Buxton. They have a fresh corps of rookies who are sinking and swimming, replacing mostly lost veterans. They have one of the best bullpens in the MLB. They are doing what they can to limit exposure to Ober and Ryan. This team has what it takes to win the World Series. And yes... THANKS TO ROCCO. (I know, I know,... slam me all you want, but I'd want nobody else running this team).
  14. I like this. He always seems to rise to the occasion and do his best when the pressure’s on. Probably fairly well rested after the slog of the first 70% of the season too.
  15. I'd like to add Tommy Watkins to this list. Last year I saw him singlehandedly lose at least 6 games, often sending guys home who ended up thrown out by 10+ feet. This year he has been solid. If you'd just tuned in this year, you'd likely not even know his name (which is a good thing).
  16. All of the defense and leadership is great... but what gets me excited was watching him run to third in the 8th inning last night. That was not the sprint of someone who has a rough bout of plantar fasciitis. If it is possible that the tear was healing to some extent (as has been suggested) we might see some massive upswing in all areas of his play this October. Could just be the adrenaline in the situation made it painless, but I don't feel like I've seen him running like that all year.
  17. Not to mention the other half of the payroll... Carlos Correa.
  18. Royce Lewis looks like the next Mickey Mantle today, but I always wait 2.5 years to evaluate a rookie. Luckily, at that time, they will still be able to offer him a monster contract if they are so inclined.
  19. All the fraudsters without a lick of class are always punching down. He knows he sucks. Without the sauce he wouldn’t have even hit Slowey.
  20. Has Joe Buck shown that he knows nothing about the Twins, Minnesota, or baseball yet?
  21. If they need another bullpen arm, it would have to be Maeda as he's the one with proven bullpen experience. He's better as a starter than Ryan or Ober, but not by enough. However, with the emergence of Paddack and Varland as potential top notch bullpen pieces, it is likely that they won't need Maeda in the back of games.
  22. If you are an umpire and everyone knows your name, you're probably a terrible umpire.
  23. Way to go Griffin Jax!
  24. These are the last high stakes innings of the season. They're playing to test their bench, not to win... so far the bench is coming through. Jax is the last one... Do it Griff.
